Book Wind Tunnel Tests of a Spinning 105 Mm Artillery Shell Model with Canard Control Surfaces

Download or read book Wind Tunnel Tests of a Spinning 105 Mm Artillery Shell Model with Canard Control Surfaces written by C. Jermey and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests have been conducted to measure the aerodynamic characteristics of a spinning model of a 105mm shell fitted with canard control surfaces. The tests covered an incidence range of -2 deg. to 15 deg., a Mach number range of 0.70 to 0.95, and a control deflection range of zero to 30 deg. The effectiveness of the canards as pitch and yaw controls and for generating manoeuvring forces is discussed. The conclusion is reached that available manoeuvring forces would be small, and an example is given for a typical trajectory in which a maximum shift of 90 m from the unguided impact point could be obtained. Book Wind Tunnel Tests with a Spinning Model of a 5 calibre Army navy Spinner at Mach 0 5 to 3 0

Download or read book Wind Tunnel Tests with a Spinning Model of a 5 calibre Army navy Spinner at Mach 0 5 to 3 0 written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most shells & bullets that are fired from a gun barrel have to be gyroscopically stabilized during flight by a high axial spin rate and this must be made in conjunction with a proper ratio of their axial & lateral inertia moments. For wind tunnel tests related to spin stabilized projectiles, it is very desirable to be able to spin the model, which makes it possible to evaluate the aerodynamic effects induced by the spinning motion and also to study the influence of the spin rate on other aerodynamic coefficients. This memorandum describes wind tunnel tests made in a trisonic wind tunnel with a spinning model of a 5-calibre Army-Navy spinner, a standard model configuration used to qualify & normalize wind tunnel test results. These tests were primarily intended to measure the spin damping & the Magnus force and also the influence of the spin rate on other standard aerodynamic coefficients, in order to evaluate the results that can be obtained with a specially designed electric-motor spin rig apparatus and its controller.

Book Wind Tunnel Investigation of Aerodynamic Loads on Weapons Separated from Carriage Under the Wing of a Tactical Fighter Aircraft at Supersonic Speeds

Download or read book Wind Tunnel Investigation of Aerodynamic Loads on Weapons Separated from Carriage Under the Wing of a Tactical Fighter Aircraft at Supersonic Speeds written by J. C. Donaldson and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploratory static-stability tests were made on models of the MK-84 weapon and a modular weapon configuration during simulated weapon separation from the wing of the F-4C Tactical Fighter Aircraft at freestream Mach numbers 1.76, 2.0, and 2.5. Data were obtained with the parent aircraft at zero angle of attack and the weapon at the carriage incidence angle of -1 deg. Supplementary data were obtained for weapon angles of attack of + or - deg. Unit Reynolds number ranged from 4.6 million per ft at M free stream mach number = 1.76 to 6.2 million per ft at M free stream mach number = 2.5. Selected results are presented which show the effects on the weapon aerodynamic loads of free-stream Mach number, weapon angle of attack, weapon axial position, and the presence of other stores. Representative shadowgraph and schlieren photographs of the interference flow field are also presented. (Author).

Book Static and Wind Tunnel Aero Performance Tests of NASA Ast Separate Flow Nozzle Noise Reduction Configurations

Download or read book Static and Wind Tunnel Aero Performance Tests of NASA Ast Separate Flow Nozzle Noise Reduction Configurations written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-27 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of cold flow model tests to determine the static and wind tunnel performance of several NASA AST separate flow nozzle noise reduction configurations. The tests were conducted by Aero Systems Engineering, Inc., for NASA Glenn Research Center. The tests were performed in the Channels 14 and 6 static thrust stands and the Channel 10 transonic wind tunnel at the FluiDyne Aerodynamics Laboratory in Plymouth, Minnesota. Facility checkout tests were made using standard ASME long-radius metering nozzles. These tests demonstrated facility data accuracy at flow conditions similar to the model tests. Channel 14 static tests reported here consisted of 21 ASME nozzle facility checkout tests and 57 static model performance tests (including 22 at no charge). Fan nozzle pressure ratio varied from 1.4 to 2.0, and fan to core total pressure ratio varied from 1.0 to 1.19. Core to fan total temperature ratio was 1.0. Channel 10 wind tunnel tests consisted of 15 tests at Mach number 0.28 and 31 tests at Mach 0.8. The sting was checked out statically in Channel 6 before the wind tunnel tests. In the Channel 6 facility, 12 ASME nozzle data points were taken and 7 model data points were taken. In the wind tunnel, fan nozzle pressure ratio varied from 1.73 to 2.8, and fan to core total pressure ratio varied from 1.0 to 1.19. Core to fan total temperature ratio was 1.0. Test results include thrust coefficients, thrust vector angle, core and fan nozzle discharge coefficients, total pressure and temperature charging station profiles, and boat-tail static pressure distributions in the wind tunnel.
