Book Study of Multipiece Flow Through Wind Tunnel Models for HIRT

Download or read book Study of Multipiece Flow Through Wind Tunnel Models for HIRT written by W. K. Alexander and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The usefulness of the proposed High Reynolds Number Transonic Wind Tunnel (HIRT) of AEDC will be largely influenced by the restrictions placed on testing due to model limitations. A preliminary study of models determined that basic models (without internal airflow) could be designed and tested in HIRT with few restrictions. The present study contains a more detailed analysis of the limitations of a high-performance fighter aircraft model, with variables similar to those for present-day transonic wind tunnels. A typical test plan is outlined, and model, balance, and support system limitations are presented.

Book Sting Dynamics of Wind Tunnel Models

Download or read book Sting Dynamics of Wind Tunnel Models written by James P. Billingsley and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind tunnel model support stings can be subjected to transient aerodynamic and inertial loads which will create oscillatory translations and angular deflections. These transient oscillations always impair steady-state data accuracy and can be large enough to cause structural failure. The primary result of this investigation has been the formulation of a mathematical analysis for the dynamic response of sting-balance combinations subjected to arbitrary transient load inputs. The analysis also provides for sting rigid body motion so that model to tunnel injection and continuous sting rotation can be simulated. A computer program was written to numerically solve the sting-model-balance notion equations.

This book was released on 2018-06-03 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes criteria for the design, analysis, quality assurance, and documentation of models that are to be tested in the wind tunnel facilities at the NASA Glenn Research Center. This report presents two methods for computing model allowable stresses on the basis of the yield stress or ultimate stress, and it defines project procedures to test models in the NASA Glenn aeropropulsion facilities. Both customer-furnished and in-house model systems are discussed. The functions of the facility personnel and customers are defined. The format for the pretest meetings, safety permit process, and model reviews are outlined. The format for the model systems report (a requirement for each model that is to be tested at NASA Glenn) is described, the engineers responsible for developing the model systems report are listed, and the timetable for its delivery to the project engineer is given.Soeder, Ronald H. and Roeder, James W. and Stark, David E. and Linne, Alan A.Glenn Research CenterWIND TUNNEL TESTS; SUPERSONIC WIND TUNNELS; AIRCRAFT ENGINES; DESIGN ANALYSIS; WIND TUNNEL MODELS; QUALITY CONTROL; SAFETY; ENGINEERS

Book Wind Tunnels Uses and Developments

Download or read book Wind Tunnels Uses and Developments written by Zied Driss and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind tunnels are facilities in which the wind is produced by fans or by compressed air to study and measure the action of the air flow around a solid. There are two basic types of wind tunnels: the closed-circuit and the open-circuit. Open-circuits draw air from the ambient environment and exhaust it back to the ambient after exiting the fan, while in closed-circuit, the air repeatedly circulates through the tunnel. The closed-circuit design delivers improved efficiency and generates less noise, but it is more expensive and more difficult to manufacture. Wind tunnels are typically used in aerodynamic research to analyse the behaviour of flows under varying conditions, both within channels and over solid surfaces. The present book focus on uses and developments of wind tunnels. It consists on nine chapters presenting different studies on the design, uses and developments of the wind tunnel in different applications like wind turbines, building and aircraft models. The presented case studies and development approaches aim to provide the readers, such as engineers and PhD students, with basic and applied studies broadly related to the wind tunnels and its applications.

Book Modeling the Benchmark Active Control Technology Wind tunnel Model for Active Control Design Applications

Download or read book Modeling the Benchmark Active Control Technology Wind tunnel Model for Active Control Design Applications written by Martin R. Waszak and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the formulation of a model of the dynamic behavior of the Benchmark Active Controls Technology (BACT) wind tunnel for active control design and analysis applications. The model is formed by combining the equations of motion for the BACT wind tunnel model with actuator models and a model of wind tunnel turbulence. The primary focus of this report is the development of the equations of motion from first principles by using Lagrange's equations and the principle of virtual work. A numerical form of the model is generated by making use of parameters obtained from both experiment and analysis. Comparisons between experimental and analytical data obtained from the numerical model show excellent agreement and suggest that simple coefficient-based aerodynamics are sufficient to accurately characterize the aeroelastic response of the BACT wind tunnel model. The equations of motion developed herein have been used to aid in the design and analysis of a number of flutter suppresion controllers that have been successfully implemented.
