Book excerpt: Since the Corps completed its major construction program in the mid-1980s, there has been a focus on changing operations of major systems such as the Missouri River, Columbia River, ACT/ACF (Alabama-Coosa-Tallipooosa/Appalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint), and others. Reevaluations and changes in operations have resulted from changing water demands of stake-holders. In each water resource study, recreation use had to be considered in evaluating alternative operating plans. This article describes the use of recreation models developed under the Recreation Research Program (and the Natural Resources Research Program) to evaluate recreation as part of an effort to meet changing water demands in the Willamette Basin, Oregon.
