Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No matter what side you’re on or how you look at it, we’re living in a world that’s filled with “fake news” and with lots of people who believe it. How do Christians fits into this world? In this book, Kenton Sparks argues that certain approaches to biblical authority, which assume that the Bible is a perfect book, make Christians especially susceptible to the deceptions of “fake news” and cause us to embrace false understandings of the Bible and, because of this, about natural science, social science, various academic disciplines, politics, morals, ethics, and loads of other things. The resulting damage to faith and Christian witness is significant. Is there a better way to understand and honor biblical authority? Yes. We must restore God as the final authority over our interpretations of Scripture. The path forward for this theological agenda was modeled by Jesus Christ in his interpretations of Scripture. Whereas his contemporaries often followed the “letter of the law” or something akin to it, Jesus taught that love for God and neighbor provided the proper foundation and destination for healthy readings and applications of the Bible. If love required more radical, internal commitments to the law, Jesus demanded this of his audience; where love required that we set aside the law’s violent judgments, he pointed his audience in the opposite direction. In modeling this approach to Scripture, Jesus taught “as one with authority” and thus showed us that, when we interpret Scripture through the lens of divine love, we give ourselves the best opportunity to read Scripture under the authority of God.

And how should we, as Christians, interact with the culture? In Every Square Inch, Bruce Ashford skillfully navigates such questions. Drawing on sources like Abraham Kuyper, C.S. Lewis, and Francis Schaeffer, he shows how our faith is relevant to all dimensions of culture. The gospel informs everything we do. We cannot maintain the artificial distinction between "sacred" and "secular." We must proclaim Jesus with our lips and promote him with our lives, no matter what cultural contexts we may find ourselves in.

Book The Fourteenth Commandment

Download or read book The Fourteenth Commandment written by Segun Ibi Julius and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2021-08-25 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finding one’s feet in these perilous and confusing times can be a hard-fought battle. Many try to live normal and quiet existences, but with every step made towards finding normalcy, peace, and comfort, very confusing and inexplicable events and activities occur in their lives and homes. Many can’t explain the exact origins of these discomforts or battles nor the reasons behind them. They have sought answers, but answers are never forthcoming. Many people have come to express them as dealing with their inner demons. Conditions can prevail that are unruly, tormenting, addictive, and even suicide inducing. I would like to introduce to you what the Holy Spirit gently introduced to me many years ago through the Holy Bible, and I would like to remove all shadiness to “the elephant in the room” that believers choose to ignore with the hope that it will simply go away. Don’t be afraid to question your doubts and don’t be afraid to question your reality. I hope to answer some questions regarding foul spirits that continue to cause havoc in the lives of people who have faith in God. These unwelcome foul spirits do not need to stay. With our faith in the Lord Jesus, we can regain control and cast them out. God is our deliverance and our salvation.

Book Hating God

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bernard Schweizer
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2010-11-04
  • ISBN : 0199781346
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Hating God written by Bernard Schweizer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-04 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While atheists such as Richard Dawkins have now become public figures, there is another and perhaps darker strain of religious rebellion that has remained out of sight--people who hate God. In this revealing book, Bernard Schweizer looks at men and women who do not question God's existence, but deny that He is merciful, competent, or good. Sifting through a wide range of literary and historical works, Schweizer finds that people hate God for a variety of reasons. Some are motivated by social injustice, human suffering, or natural catastrophes that God does not prevent. Some blame God for their personal tragedies. Schweizer concludes that, despite their blasphemous thoughts, these people tend to be creative and moral individuals, and include such literary lights as Friedrich Nietzsche, Mark Twain, Zora Neale Hurston, Rebecca West, Elie Wiesel, and Philip Pullman. Schweizer shows that literature is a fertile ground for God haters. Many authors, who dare not voice their negative attitude to God openly, turn to fiction to give vent to it. Indeed, Schweizer provides many new and startling readings of literary masterpieces, highlighting the undercurrent of hatred for God. Moreover, by probing the deeper mainsprings that cause sensible, rational, and moral beings to turn against God, Schweizer offers answers to some of the most vexing questions that beset human relationships with the divine.

Book Heaven and Hell

Download or read book Heaven and Hell written by Bart D. Ehrman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over half of Americans believe in a literal heaven, in a literal hell. Most people who hold these beliefs are Christian and assume they are the age-old teachings of the Bible. Ehrman shows that eternal rewards and punishments are found nowhere in the Old Testament, and are not what Jesus or his disciples taught. He recounts the long history of the afterlife, ranging from The Epic of Gilgamesh up to the writings of Augustine, focusing especially on the teachings of Jesus and his early followers. Ehrman shows that competing views were intimately connected with the social, cultural, and historical worlds out of which they emerged. -- adapted from jacket

Book You Were on the Mind of Christ

Download or read book You Were on the Mind of Christ written by Th D. Elmer a. Wolford and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You became excited, delighted, and happy when you answered the phone. One of your friends said, "Hi, this is ......., and I've had you on my mind for several days. How are you? It thrilled your heart that someone "thought" about you. Somebody cared! They cared about you! They called! Now think about Jesus, that when he came here, YOU were on his mind, on the mind of Christ. Put your name in this sentence: "I, ......, was on the mind of Christ." Yes, ...., you were on the mind of Christ" That's awesome! That thought should thrill your very soul. Read this book and see how you fit in. The eternal mind of Christ was full; it included thoughts about obedience, integrity, wisdom, and much, much more, including life for you and me. This Book will help you see what it means to walk with him every day. After my first book was published in 2008, I felt pushed by the Holy Spirit to continue writing, to write something else. What came to mind, like a question, was, what was on the mind of Christ when he came to live with us? After considering several topics I believed could have been on his mind, it suddenly hit me that YOU were on his mind, and that what he said and did was done so that YOU could know him and serve him properly. Therefore came: YOU were on the mind of Christ. The title of my first book is: Unfold the Mystery of Daniel and Revelation.

Book The Untold Story

Download or read book The Untold Story written by Rebecca Kaddi and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-06-27 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author and writer, Rebecca Kaddi, has a passion for saving souls and building marriages. In this book, she provides a true account of how Satan used his agent in the church to destroy marriages and Christians. She explains that as a sign for the end times, deception is on the rise-even in the churches. Deception is no longer dark for you to be able to distinguish easily. It appears just as written in 2 Corinthians 11: 13-14 "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light" (NKJV). It is now very difficult to tell the difference between righteous and unrighteous, good and evil, clean and unclean, holy and unholy, and sacred and secular. The false prophets select the parts of the scripture that will support their philosophical and psychological intentions, and deceive many into thinking that they are real. It is time for men and women to guide themselves with the spirit of discernment. This book reveals what to watch for so that you do not fall into their traps. They generally do not preach salvation. They may call the name of God and Christ but will never want you to be saved. They make you feel good and comfortable and never challenge you to come out of your sins and submit to God.
