Book excerpt: Fish Wielder is kind of like Lord of the Rings, set in Narnia, if it was written by the guys who made Monty Python and the Holy Grail while they were listening to the music of They Might Be Giants. In ancient times, the Dark Lord Mauron cooked the most powerful magic chocolate dessert ever made, the Pudding of Power. One thousand and two years later, the evil leader of the Bad Religion, the Heartless One, is trying to recover the lost pudding in order to enslave the peoples of Grome. Only the depressed barbarian warrior Thoral Might Fist and his best friend, Brad the talking Koi fish, have a chance to save the world of Grome from destruction, but that's going to take a ridiculous amount of magic and mayhem. Thus begins the epically silly epic fantasy of epic proportions, Fish Wielder-book one of the Emperor of the Bracelet Trilogy.

She leaves behind her beloved homeland and family, taking only her bow and trusty horse, Zhan. She travels to the country of Shelkite. And though she's met warmly by Prince Alkin, she's met with disdain by his bitter, right hand man-Master Sword Bryan. Soon, Alexandra and a company of warriors and, yes, a witty unicorn, set off in search of an answer to their predicament. She finds adventure, mischief, and danger around every bend, but nothing amounts to her ever-present and confusing feelings toward Master Sword Bryan. Through grassy foothills where her dreams seem to tell the future, through an ancient wood where the tiniest magic still lives, to the sea in search of reclusive merpeople, and to an unstable, mystical forest the company treks-learning and growing alongside each other, even as a mysterious man joins them. Alexandra may have taken on more than she prefers to handle, but among the hardships and mounting romantic troubles, she knows she has to press on, for whether she does or not she's the key-either for good or evil.

Book The Enlightenment of Vairocana

Download or read book The Enlightenment of Vairocana written by Alex Wayman and published by Motilal Banarsidass Publ.. This book was released on 1992 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Enlightenment of Vairocana is a covering for two books that study a famous Buddhist scripture with given Sanskrit titles of Vairocanabhisambodhitantra or Mahavairocanasutra. The first book, by Alex Wayman, translates the second chapter, which contains the body mandala of Vairocana's Compassion, copiously using Buddhaguhya's commentary, study of some other chapters such as the final one on fire lineage, and includes much introductory material, stressing the Indo-Tibetan approach, on such topics as the Dharmadhatu and the deities of the second chapter. The second book, by Ryujun Tajima, translates the first chapter, with the scripture's theory of becoming a Buddha in one life, copiously using Subhakarasimha's commentary, summary of the remaining chapters, and includes introductory material stressing the Sino-Japanese approach, especially introducing the reader to the positions of the Shingon sect. The two books complement each other, and provide the interested reader with a veritable feast of information. Hopefully the reader will appreciate the beauty of religious message, and the efforts of the two authors to render the words of the scripture sensitively and carefully. It should be admitted that this is a profound Buddhist scripture with numerous well-crafted verses, and that it is resistent to the understanding, requiring lengthy attention for its penetration.
