Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A delicious demonstration of the new directions into which Caribbean cooking is now moving. Modern Caribbean Cuisine demonstrates the new directions into which Caribbean cooking is now moving. While influences from all over the world have been assimilated, an essential integrity remains, and these recipes could only have come from the islands of the Caribbean. Fusion has long been a feature of Caribbean cuisine: traditional recipes represent a rich inheritance from African, Indian, and European ancestors. In this collection, Wendy Rahamut emphasizes the importance of using indigenous ingredients to create a “fresher, tastier, spicy and delicious cuisine.” The result is a celebration of Caribbean flavors as they are today. Modern Caribbean Cuisine takes us on a gastronomic reverie—a food fusion experience of: mouthwatering snacks and appetizers; spicy and hearty soups; a wide variety of attractive salads; exciting ways of preparing local seafood ; traditional and modern meat and poultry recipes; an imaginative collection of rice recipes; wonderful vegetable preparations; spectacularly exotic desserts; scrumptious cake and bread recipes; piquant hot sauces and condiments. Each section of the book features a range of easy-to-follow recipes, illustrated with enticing photography by Michael Bonaparte, and is introduced with a useful short discussion of the role and importance of the various ingredients and their place in Caribbean kitchens.

Book The CARIFORUM EU Economic Partnership Agreement

Download or read book The CARIFORUM EU Economic Partnership Agreement written by Americo Beviglia Zampetti and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement is a sui generis North-South trade and development agreement. The C-EPA is a bi-regional agreement, signed in Bridgetown, Barbados in October 2008, with the specific aim of supporting the sustainable development of the Caribbean. As a paradigm changer in the ACP-EU trade relationship, the C-EPA has unsurprisingly attracted considerable attention. The long process of ratification by twenty-seven EU Member States and fifteen Caribbean countries has begun, and implementation is advancing after an initial delay. This book is the first detailed analysis of the Agreement's provisions, including its negotiating history and prognosis of its future potential. It is written by fifteen Caribbean and European practitioners, most of whom actively contributed to the crafting of the Agreement as CARIFORUM or EU negotiators. The contributions cover the following: ; charting a dual approach to CARIFORUM commitments at both regional and national levels; establishing an architecture of commitments that seeks to support CARIFORUM regional integration; safeguarding Caribbean preferential access to the EU market; broadening the ambit of the Caribbean-EU relationship, as reflected in the Cotonou Agreement, into new trade disciplines; highlighting key drivers in the negotiations; addressing the CARICOM-Dominican Republic economic relationship; examining the special treatment of Haiti; and reviewing the C-EPA's compatibility with WTO rules.

Book Paid Servant

Download or read book Paid Servant written by E. R. Braithwaite and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: E. R. Braithwaite, the acclaimed author of To Sir, With Love, poignantly recounts his time as a social worker dedicated to London’s abandoned minority children Despite his Cambridge education and a sterling record with the British Royal Air Force during World War II, E. R. Braithwaite, a black man, was unable to find employment as an engineer in post-war London. Instead he accepted a position as a teacher in a tough East End school and wrote of his experiences in his classic bestseller To Sir, With Love. Nine years later, Braithwaite once again found himself assuming an unfamiliar professional role as a social worker charged with finding homes for London’s orphaned, abused, or abandoned “coloured” children. While he lacked formal training, Braithwaite possessed qualities essential for the job: compassion, determination, and a deep, abiding understanding and love for the helpless, lost, and disregarded. In Paid Servant, E. R. Braithwaite shares his experiences in London’s Department of Child Welfare, focusing on the case of his four-year-old client Roddy, a bright, handsome mulatto boy who was rejected for adoption by both black and white families because he was not their “own kind.” Everywhere he turned, Braithwaite encountered racial prejudice. But he was willing to fight for what he believed in, and he believed in Roddy. Writing with great power, warmth, and a deep belief in human dignity and worth, Braithwaite offers a heartbreaking yet hopeful look into a society’s attempt to care for its youngest, most vulnerable citizens.

Book Shipboard Life and Organisation 1731 1815

Download or read book Shipboard Life and Organisation 1731 1815 written by Brian Lavery and published by Routledge. This book was released on 1998 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea behind this volume, according to its editor Brian Lavery, was to give a rounded picture of life at sea during the age of sail. It concentrates on the daily routine of shipboard life rather than more dramatic events such as battles and mutiny. It supplements other volumes produced by the Navy Records Society, notably Five Naval Journals 1789-1817 (vol 91, 1951, ed H G Thursfield) and The Health of Seamen (vol 107, 1965, ed C C Lloyd.) The selection begins in the second quarter of the eighteenth century because, stated Brian Lavery, 'there are no suitable documents from earlier periods' and closes in 1815, when the navy entered a new era with the advent of steam and a long period of peace. One of the most important aspects of shipboard life was that it was intensely self-contained, especially in the later part of the age of sail. After the conquest of scurvy, ships were able to stay at sea for many months at a time and the world-wide battle for empire caused them to make very long voyages, often away from their home bases over a period of years. Even in port seamen often stayed on board and shore leave was not in any sense a right. This volume throws a spotlight on the way in which a crew of up to 850 men could be crammed into a small space for many months at a time, and the ways in which they were fed, clothed, allocated space for eating and sleeping, at the same time as they were organised for sailing and battle duties. It contains separate sections dealing with Admiralty Regulations, Captain's Orders, Medical Journals, discipline and punishment. It also includes an extensive glossary of the nautical terms and descriptions of the time.

Book B2B Executive Playbook

Download or read book B2B Executive Playbook written by Sean Geehan and published by Clerisy Press. This book was released on 2011-08-09 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book completely focused on successfully running B2B, which is very different from B2C. The fate of a B2B lies in the hands of a few individuals so what ultimately determines if a company thrives, or even survives, is how these key relationships are targeted, structured and managed. Over 30 percent of all B2B product development, marketing, and other discretionary dollars are wasted. When the realities of B2B marketplace are not integrated into a company's SOP, it is more likely that the company is wasting money as well as the employees' time and efforts. If the budget and plans aren't structured for B2B specifically, they won't move the meter. But there is good news -- there is a corresponding equal amount of potential revenue, growth and prosperity. The leading B2B companies dramatically build their top and bottom lines when leaders realize that success, undeniably and unquestionably, resides with how they engage with the their customers and how that will drive their internal alignment and operations. What is it that they are doing differently than their competition and others in their industry that drive revenue growth, deliver predictable earnings, retain and grow customers and develop new offerings that customers will not only buy, but for which they will pay premiums.
