Book The Little Corona

  • Pages : 32 pages

Download or read book The Little Corona written by Benak and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-11-14 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In normal times, it is difficult enough to address children to explain the nature of a phenomenon. So what about in difficult times? Children are smart and capable of understanding, but we have to make sure that the approach is a happy one. So how do we approach the subject of the Covid-19 pandemic with children? How do we talk to them without further dramatizing things, because the damage has been done somewhere? Indeed, the coronavirus has been over-publicized and it is difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. Too much information, not only contradictory, but alarming and defeatist, was circulating, taking hostage both adults and children. Yes, children also have the right to information. However, this information must be reliable, clear, understandable, and free of rumors and misinformation. The Covid-19 pandemic is a thorny, burning, dramatic, worrying and distressing subject at the same time. Can we avoid it? No, on the contrary, we must approach it with tact, sensitivity and responsibility. I have taken the actions and information of the World Health Organization (WHO) as a starting point for writing this series, which is both essential and difficult. Taking on such a challenge is not easy, as it requires psychology and pedagogy to claim this kind of writing. Being a writer with a beautiful pen is not enough when it comes to this kind of literature. This perilous exercise has a price: an investment in effort and time. Nevertheless, it paid off: The Little Corona was born! I feel completely satisfied and hope that the children and their parents will be too. The Little Corona is a series that tells the story of the pandemic in a certain chronology. In fact, it is an answer to the questions of children and the questions of parents. To educate and to please, to explain and to satisfy, to tell and to please, these are the goals set by The Little Corona in all modesty. Educational, it popularizes information to make it accessible in simple, useful and true French. Even the grammar has its own little lot where the concordance of tenses goes crescendo from number to number. The compound tenses have adopted the right attitude of going step by step without ever rushing while using real data. And to finish this panoply, English and Spanish were added to accustom and encourage children to foreign words. The Little Corona and El Pequeño Corona are the new friends of the French Little Corona, the oldest of the series. The Little Corona has focused on the family in general and the role of parents in society, emphasizing work and solidarity within the community. Grandparents, parents, neighbors, friends and other citizens are used to explain the benefits of intra-family and inter-community relationships. The relationships between nations and countries are also addressed, but without going into too much detail. This parsimony is just to explain the other face of the pandemic. Besides, I tried to relativize this coronavirus which is scaring the whole world according to some media. Yes, it is a disease that makes people talk, but that does not make as much damage as other plagues and diseases like war, famine, road accidents and seasonal flu. Indeed, the coronavirus is contagious. Invisible to the naked eye like other known viruses, it makes the whole world tremble. Nevertheless, it is not the end of the world and the Earth continues to turn by distilling us life with its eternal beauty. It's just a disease that we can protect ourselves from and that we can also catch and especially escape. This series, intended for children as well as their parents, must help them to go through this particular ordeal or any other similar one by playing down the situation. I start from the principle that children are intelligent beings who can have a great imagination while reading.

Book How the Force Can Fix the World

Download or read book How the Force Can Fix the World written by Stephen Kent and published by Center Street. This book was released on 2021-11-09 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From widespread unemployment and mounting international hostilities, every day we are swept into more political chaos—so one brave man looks to the Star Wars universe for answers to our most urgent problems. “You can’t stop the change — anymore than you can stop the sun from setting.” Anakin Skywalker was never able to live with this wisdom shared by his mother on the day he left home to train as a Jedi Knight. That failure led him to becoming the fearsome villain we all know as Darth Vader. We’re living in a time of unprecedented and rapid change. An age of chaos. Democracies are in decline worldwide. Dictators are ascendant. Civic organizations are crumbling. People feel lonelier and more rudderless than in any other time in recent history. We’ve tried to slow down, and in some cases we, like Anakin, have tried stop the change, but failed at every turn. The fears that come with living in an age of disruption have produced public anger, and that anger has swelled movements of hate. Author Stephen Kent believes part of the solution is hiding in plain sight. A story that binds together multiple generations with a common language, a moral framework, and a sense of wonder. It’s Star Wars. What if we looked to Star Wars for more than just entertainment? How the Force Can Fix the World takes this challenge on by analyzing the core principles of the Star Wars franchise: HOPE, CHOICE, HUMILITY, EMPATHY, REDEMPTION, BALANCE and rejecting FEAR. Together, these are the Star Wars roadmap for living better lives, and maybe even fostering a better politics. The path that we’re on — where fear leads to anger, and anger to hatred — will only end in suffering. But Star Wars shows us the way back from the brink. Shared stories of virtue that are beloved across cultures and political divides are hard to come by, but Star Wars is one such story. Turn on the news; things are pretty broken right now — but the Force can fix the world.

Book Internationalism or Extinction

Download or read book Internationalism or Extinction written by Noam Chomsky and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his new book, Noam Chomsky writes cogently about the threats to planetary survival that are of growing alarm today. The prospect of human extinction emerged after World War II, the dawn of a new era scientists now term the Anthropocene. Chomsky uniquely traces the duality of existential threats from nuclear weapons and from climate change—including how the concerns emerged and evolved, and how the threats can interact with one another. The introduction and accompanying interviews place these dual threats in a framework of unprecedented corporate global power which has overtaken nation states’ ability to control the future and preserve the planet. Chomsky argues for the urgency of international climate and arms agreements, showing how global popular movements are mobilizing to force governments to meet this unprecedented challenge to civilization’s survival.

From the bestselling author of Rich and Pretty comes a suspenseful and provocative novel keenly attuned to the complexities of parenthood, race, and class. Leave the World Behind explores how our closest bonds are reshaped—and unexpected new ones are forged—in moments of crisis. Amanda and Clay head out to a remote corner of Long Island expecting a vacation: a quiet reprieve from life in New York City, quality time with their teenage son and daughter, and a taste of the good life in the luxurious home they’ve rented for the week. But a late-night knock on the door breaks the spell. Ruth and G. H. are an older couple—it’s their house, and they’ve arrived in a panic. They bring the news that a sudden blackout has swept the city. But in this rural area—with the TV and internet now down, and no cell phone service—it’s hard to know what to believe. Should Amanda and Clay trust this couple—and vice versa? What happened back in New York? Is the vacation home, isolated from civilization, a truly safe place for their families? And are they safe from one other?
