Book Educating All God s Children

Download or read book Educating All God s Children written by Nicole Baker Fulgham and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children living in poverty have the same God-given potential as children in wealthier communities, but on average they achieve at significantly lower levels. Kids who both live in poverty and read below grade level by third grade are three times as likely not to graduate from high school as students who have never been poor. By the time children in low-income communities are in fourth grade, they're already three grade levels behind their peers in wealthier communities. More than half won't graduate from high school--and many that do graduate only perform at an eighth-grade level. Only one in ten will go on to graduate from college. These students have severely diminished opportunities for personal prosperity and professional success. It is clear that America's public schools do not provide a high quality public education for the sixteen million children growing up in poverty. Education expert Nicole Baker Fulgham explores what Christians can--and should--do to champion urgently needed reform and help improve our public schools. The book provides concrete action steps for working to ensure that all of God's children get the quality public education they deserve. It also features personal narratives from the author and other Christian public school teachers that demonstrate how the achievement gap in public education can be solved.

Book The Case for Classical Christian Education

Download or read book The Case for Classical Christian Education written by Douglas Wilson and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2002-11-12 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Newspapers are filled with stories about poorly educated children, ineffective teachers, and cash-strapped school districts. In this greatly expanded treatment of a topic he first dealt with in Rediscovering the Lost Tools of Learning, Douglas Wilson proposes an alternative to government-operated school by advocating a return to classical Christian education with its discipline, hard work, and learning geared to child development stages. As an educator, Wilson is well-equipped to diagnose the cause of America's deteriorating school system and to propose remedies for those committed to their children's best interests in education. He maintains that education is essentially religious because it deals with the basic questions about life that require spiritual answers-reading and writing are simply the tools. Offering a review of classical education and the history of this movement, Wilson also reflects on his own involvement in the process of creating educational institutions that embrace that style of learning. He details elements needed in a useful curriculum, including a list of literary classics. Readers will see that classical education offers the best opportunity for academic achievement, character growth, and spiritual education, and that such quality cannot be duplicated in a religiously-neutral environment.

Book Why Christian Kids Need a Christian Education

Download or read book Why Christian Kids Need a Christian Education written by Douglas Wilson and published by . This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "At the beginning of history, God established a foundational enmity between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. This is an antithesis that cuts across all areas of human life, including education. Christian parents are left with only two options for the training of their children: faithful education or unbelieving education. Though the right choice seems obvious, many Christian parents do not see the antithesis. In this little book, Douglas Wilson presents the case for providing a faithful, Christian education for all Christian kids, and explains why we even have to make that case to begin with." --from back cover.

Book Excused Absence

Download or read book Excused Absence written by Douglas Wilson and published by . This book was released on 2021-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "God calls Christian parents to raise their kids for Him, loving Him with all their heart, soul, strength, and mind. But does this divine calling require a distinctively Christian education? Should Christian parents send their kids to public schools as "salt" and "light" or should they take their kids out of public schools to form distinctively Christian schools and home schools dedicated to holding forth Christ as Lord of all? Because our kids belong to God, are we called to surround them with a biblical worldview from the time they get up to the time they go down, including the hours from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.? Excused Absence is a powerful book that points Christian parents to a better way to educate their children. It is sure to inspire and motivate the growing Christian schooling and home schooling movements for many years to come"--

Book Our Church and Our Children

Download or read book Our Church and Our Children written by Sophie Koulomzin and published by St Vladimir's Seminary Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a re-release of a classic by a distinguished Orthodox Christian religious educator and a foundational read for Christian parents and educators. Koulomzin, who taught Religious Education at St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary from 1954 to 1973, writes as a laywoman, teacher, mother, and grandmother about the task of Christian education. The work is a remarkable compendium of her wisdom. The contents of the book comprise a deep understanding of children, a wise appropriation of educational and developmental theory, a lived knowledge of the Orthodox faith tradition, and a keen sense of Orthodox church life in America. The book is peppered with engaging anecdotes from her half-century of experience working with children in the Church. For Koulomzin, recognizing that children are full members of the Church was of utmost importance, and her life's vocation was encouraging others to see this. Among the key topics addressed in Our Church and Our Children are: the task of Christian education, developmental stages of children, Christian education in the family, the challenges and opportunities of the church school, and a vision and goals for the Christian teacher. It makes an excellent book for either group or personal study. Included in the re-release are a foreword, which gives a glimpse into her incredible personal life, a bibliography, and a chapter-by-chapter study guide.

Book Why We Homeschool

Download or read book Why We Homeschool written by Adam T. Calvert and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-07-19 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the topic of homeschooling comes up, there often seem to be various assumptions as to why we homeschool our children, which are simply wrong, or, at the most, inadequate. Yes, the government schools have bullies; yes, the government schools might be bigger targets for armed shootings; and yes, the government schools (even the ones in good school districts) have kids or teachers who will teach our children language or experiences that we would rather them not learn that early in life (or at all). And while all those things are true and good reasons to educate our children at home, even if those problems were corrected, we--and many other parents--would still be committed to homeschooling our children. Why? The purpose of this book is to answer that question--and to answer it from the Scriptures.

Book The how and why of Home Schooling

Download or read book The how and why of Home Schooling written by Ray E. Ballmann and published by Crossway. This book was released on 1995 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Printed boldly on the back of the United States currency is the motto "In God We Trust." We have seen it so often that it may have lost its meaning to us. But found in these words is the secret to national and personal greatness.Webster's Dictionary defines the word trust as "a firm belief or confidence in the honesty, integrity, reliability and justice of another person or thing."When our founding fathers put their names to the Declaration of Independence, they believed that God was the only sure foundation upon which to build a nation that would endure. These men knew that this unique experiment in freedom would only stand the test of time by God's grace. George Washington stated it simply, "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible."Reliance upon God was deeply rooted in our country's important documents and institutions from the beginning. But today confidence in God and His Word is no longer the foundation of society. In our schools the God of Creation has been replaced by the "god" of evolutionary chance. Truth has been replaced by relativism. Morality has been replaced by expediency. In our homes we nightly view things that were unimaginable on television and in movies only a decade ago. Violence, sexual perversion and obscene language spill off the screen. In the political arena God's principles of truth and justice have often given way to expedience, personal profit, and compromise. As we have departed from God, life has been devalued. The lives of unborn children are snuffed out in abortion clinics and the number of robberies, rapes and murders increase daily. It is time that we return to the values of God's Word in our public and private lives so that He will heal our land. We must begin person by person on our knees, confessing our failure to trust God fully in our lives.Today you can affirm your trust in God if you will: Acknowledge that you need salvation: The Bible says, "All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Recognize God's love for you: "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). Receive Jesus and His forgiveness, the only basis for encountering God. "As many as received Him (Jesus), to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name" (John 1:12).God is calling you to put your trust in Him today! Don't ignore His call!
