Book excerpt: Lonely Lacey Garrett leads a quiet life in Virginia as the office manager of a mining company. New foreman Sam Butler takes her on a whirlwind courtship that leads to marriage. But all is not as it seems, and Lacey discovers shocking secrets hidden in their attic. Just when she begins to question Sam's true identity, Lacey's secure world quickly unravels. In disgrace, Lacey escapes her humdrum existence in search of a new life. On her journey of self-discovery, Lacey, an avid movie buff, searches for the home of favorite actor, Chant Winslow, an easy-going, motorcycle-riding, Tennessee farm owner who lives far from the glitz of Hollywood. A freak accident intertwines Lacey and Chant's lives, and she eventually becomes his personal assistant. Lacey falls in love with Chant, despite his involvement with gorgeous supermodel, Jillian Hathaway, who is determined to hold onto her man. Soon, common enemies form an unholy alliance in their plot to destroy Lacey. A misunderstanding forces would-be lovers apart, but a reunion in New Orleans finally consummates their relationship, only to find danger lurking in the shadows. In the thrilling climax, Lacey must decide whether she will realize her "deepest" wishes of living out her true passions or if her past will ruin her heart's desire.

It's something that finds you. Blind since birth, widowed in her twenties, now lonely in her forties, Marianne Fraser has accepted that she will spend the rest of her life living in frustrated anonymity with her sister, Louisa. But when Keir Harvey comes to her aide one winter's night, she cannot help but dream of a different life. Keir is unlike anyone she's ever met - he's abrupt, wonderfully unapologetic and impossibly kind. But it's not long before the similarities between Keir and Marianne's former husband become too obvious to ignore. Is history repeating itself? Can Marianne overcome her fears, let down her guard and open her heart to this mysterious stranger who wants nothing more than to 'show' a blind woman the stars? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grounded in Christian love mysticism, Love’s Oneing gives voice to the luminous consciousness that awakens from within our oneness in God in contemplation. With great sensitivity, the book offers nuanced insight into the marriage of kenosis and desire in contemplation, through the rich tapestry of writings from nine mystics: Julian of Norwich, the Cloud of Unknowing author, Meister Eckhart, Mechthild of Magdeburg, Clare of Assisi, John of the Cross, Teilhard de Chardin, Beatrice Bruteau and Ilia Delio. With the delicate eye of a spiritual director immersed in mystical literature, Kerrie Hide situates these mystical teachings within contemplative prayer, whilst offering a scholarly exploration of contemplative practice to embody the insights. Deeply grounded in traditional and contemporary mystical classics, Hide celebrates how the Christian mystical tradition lays a foundation for the evolutionary growth of communion consciousness and the insights of quantum science, highlighting key moments in contemplation that when surrendered into, open into divine love. Born of intellectual reflection, lived experience and contemplative wisdom, Love’s Oneing makes a unique contribution to the existing literature on contemplation at a time when the recovery of the mystical dimension of life is crucial for the future of our planet in this climate crisis moment.

  • Pages : 297 pages

Download or read book Star Gazing written by Jackie Stacey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a historical investigation of the pleasures of cinema, Star Gazing puts female spectators back into theories of spectatorship. Combining film theory with a rich body of ethnographic research, Jackie Stacey investigates how female spectators understood Hollywood stars in the 1940's and 1950's. Her study challenges the universalism of psychoanalytic theories of female spectatorship which have dominated the feminist agenda within film studies for over two decades. Drawing on letters and questionnaires from over three hundred keen cinema-goers, Stacey investigates the significance of certain Hollywood stars in women's memories of wartime and postwar Britain. Three key processes of spectatorship - escapism, identification and consumption - are explored in detail in terms of their multiple and changing meanings for female spectators at this time. Star Gazing demonstrates the importance of cultural and national location for the meanings of female spectatorship, giving a new direction to questions of popular culture and female desire.

Diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumour and water on the brain at 17 months, he wasn't expected to survive. But Lewis proved everyone wrong; he's not only surviving but thriving.
