Book A Doubter s Guide to the Bible

Download or read book A Doubter s Guide to the Bible written by John Dickson and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise account of the whole biblical narrative and what it means—as well as the beliefs and lifestyle it inspires—for those observing Christianity from the outside, especially those who think there are good reasons not to believe. A Doubter's Guide to the Bible charts a biblical roadmap from the story of creation to the fulfillment of creation, answering many of the most frequently asked questions along the way: How can we read the creation account in Genesis in light of modern science? How should Old Testament law be understood when it appears inconsistent and irrelevant? Isn't the story of Jesus' birth a little far-fetched? What is the Gospel? Why are there four accounts of the same thing, and what are they really saying? John Dickson provides a readable and inviting Bible primer for anyone interested in informing themselves about the most widely read book in the history of humanity. By presenting the whole of the Bible as an account of God's promise to restore humanity to Himself, and humans to one another and to creation, Dickson allows believers and skeptics alike to gain insight into why the Bible has been a compelling, life-changing, and magnetic force throughout the ages—and why it still matters.

Download or read book Where Sin Abounds written by Robert R. Gonzales Jr. and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly all scholars divide Genesis into primeval and patriarchal history, though they debate the precise point of division. One reason advanced to justify the division is a thematic shift. In primeval history, the narrator focuses on the origin and spread of sin, as well as God's consequent curse and judgment on humanity. In patriarchal history, however, the spread of sin theme falls off the radar of most scholars. But these analyses of the primeval and patriarchal narratives are simplistic and inaccurate. In fact, the theme of human sin and the divine curse not only serve as the main themes of the Fall narrative, but they also continue to function as major themes in both the primeval and patriarchal narratives that follow. More particularly, human sin appears to increase at both individual and societal levels. Moreover, just as the primordial sin threatened to derail the advance of God's kingdom and fulfillment of the creation mandate, so the spread of human sin in postlapsarian history threatens to thwart God's redemptive plan, which consists in the restoration of his original creational intentions for divine and human eschatological fullness. This proves true even in the patriarchal narratives where the sins of God's chosen often threaten the very promise intended for their ultimate good. These facts, which the author attempts to demonstrate in the monograph, not only have important ramifications for the unity of the Genesis corpus, but they also have important implications for the doctrines of sin, justification, and sanctification.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Las Vegas has long been characterized as "Sin City." It is a common assumption of many outsiders that Las Vegas is a spiritual wasteland, devoid of any significant religious community and bereft of traditional values. This is most certainly not the case! In fact, Las Vegas has a strong, healthy, and growing religious dimension. Within this milieu is a strong and rapidly expanding Pentecostal dimension to the city's profile of faith. The Pentecostals in Las Vegas are a microcosm of Pentecostalism both nationally and globally. On the whole, this expression of Christian faith is certainly among the fastest growing religions in the world. Some sociologists and demographics experts identify Evangelicals and Pentecostals as the emerging religious majority in America's future. Most mainstream denominations are in decline, but Pentecostals continue to grow both in numbers and influence. This book will explore and analyze several local Pentecostal congregations and the dynamic relationship between the church and the "Strip." It will focus on the interplay between one of America's most devout religious subcultures and one its most secular cities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FAITH...the Key to Successful Living! Why another book about faith? Were glad you asked. Although much has been written and preached on the subject of faith, misunderstanding abounds when it comes to appropriating the blessings God has for His people. At one extreme are those sincere Christians who take a fatalistic approach, passively waiting to see what God will do on their behalf. At the other extreme are equally sincere believers who aggressively name and claim the blessings they feel are rightfully theirs. If you find yourself near either of these extremes, what you are about to read will re-write your understanding of the faith life. If you are somewhere in between, you will find your faith enriched and strengthened. "Faith, the Key to Success" is a breakthrough book that will show you how to: [ Know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that God has purposed to bless you in this life, not just in heaven [ Move the mountain that stands between you and your blessings (its not what you might think!)
