Book Where Did My Life Go Homeless and Out of Business

Download or read book Where Did My Life Go Homeless and Out of Business written by K.D. Sanders and published by Kevin Dale Sanders. This book was released on 2015-10-31 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Where Did My Life Go? Homeless and Out of Business” is by far one of the most raw, powerful, and engaging reads that I’ve come across in a long, long time. Author K.D. Sanders offers readers a very personal and unaltered look into his life, thoughts, and feelings as he underwent some very rough times as a homeless man while experiencing that many of us will never even come close to in our ordinary lives. I say this and the book may seem quite gloomy at first, but I also would say there’s another side to it – I interpret the book as having a sort of theme about personal redemption and keeping headstrong even through all the bad things that life can throw at you. The author manages to keep his spirits high even while dealing with unfortunate circumstances and for that I admire his courage. As well as this, the text is written in a way that flows nicely due to a relatively relaxed undertone and there are plenty of general musings about the author’s opinion on homeless life in general that I found to be very thought-provoking (and even sobering at times). Overall, I enjoyed the read and I found it to be honestly quite refreshingly new compared to what I’ve been coming across these days. Definitely worth checking out. - Amazon Review

Book Miracle at Midlife

Download or read book Miracle at Midlife written by Roni Beth Tower and published by She Writes Press. This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2017 Gold Medal IPPY Award in Autobiography/Memoir They first meet in Paris in the spring of 1996. David is a divorced American attorney living on a converted barge moored on the banks of the Seine; Roni Beth is an empty-nested clinical and research psychologist working from her home in Connecticut. Now in their fifties, both have signed off on loving again—until they meet each other. Miracle at Midlife tells the inspiring story of Roni Beth and David’s intense and transformative transatlantic courtship. Along the way, David the loner, living amid the beauty, freedom, and pleasures of Paris, brings Roni Beth, a responsible and overextended professional haunted by earlier loss and trauma, back to her core as a woman, while she helps him reclaim connections that tie him to a larger world. They wrestle internal demons (mostly hers) and external threats (friends, family and different perspectives) as they share adventures in their respective worlds. Throughout their journey, stories of courage, joy and integrity bring hope and delight to those who wonder how romantic love appears and evolves; inspiration to people in mid-life who, knowingly or unknowingly, have completed a chapter in their lives and are ready to move on; and comfort to anyone who longs to wrestle and conquer the demons of fear, born of history or of the unknown, and win. Testimony that love is real.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graduate schools have faced attrition rates of approximately 50 percent for the past 40 years. They have tried to address the problem by focusing on student characteristics and by assuming that if they could make better, more informed admissions decisions, attrition rates would drop. Yet high attrition rates persist and may in fact be increasing. Leaving the Ivory Tower thus turns the issue around and asks what is wrong with the structure and process of graduate education. Based on hard evidence drawn from a survey of 816 completers and noncompleters and on interviews with noncompleters, high- and low-Ph.D productive faculty and Directors of Graduate study, this book locates the root cause of attrition in the social structure and cultural organization of graduate education.

Book Images of War in Contemporary Art

Download or read book Images of War in Contemporary Art written by Uroš Cvoro and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-08-12 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Images of War in Contemporary Art, Uroš Cvoro and Kit Messham-Muir mount a challenge to the dominance of theoretical tropes of trauma, affect, and emotion that have determined how we think of images of war and terror for the last 20 years. Through analyses of visual culture from contemporary "war art" to the meme wars, they argue that the art that most effectively challenges the ethics and aesthetics of war and terror today is that which disrupts this flow-art that makes alternative perceptions of wartime both visible and possible. As a theoretical work, Images of War in Contemporary Art is richly supported by visual and textual evidence and firmly embedded in current artistic practice. Significantly, though, the book breaks with both traditional and current ways of thinking about war art-offering a radical rethinking of the politics and aesthetics of art today through analyses of a diverse scope of contemporary art that includes Ben Quilty, Abdul Abdullah (Australia), Mladen Miljanovic, Nebojša Šeric Šoba (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Hiwa K, Wafaa Bilal (Iraq), Teresa Margolles (Mexico), and Arthur Jafa (United States).
