Book When God went from Absolute Zero to 98 6

Download or read book When God went from Absolute Zero to 98 6 written by Art Compere and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents my view of God and his relationship to what he created. God is totally good and wants all people to turn from evil and live good lives, putting their trust in his Son Jesus. But making Jesus Lord and Master of our lives does not provide immunity against what naturally happens in a world that has gone bad. The Evil One has a strong foothold on Planet Earth and causes trouble by getting his followers to make bad things happen to good people. God's love for us is shown through his Comforter, who gathers us in his arms and carries us close to his heart. God also shows his love by providing a place for us in his Kingdom his Son Jesus will eventually reign over. God himself causes some disasters to remind us not to store up treasures on earth. We look upon birth defects, crippling diseases, painful mishaps, and torture in concentration camps as God's way to let us see what happens to those cast into outer darkness where there is suffering with no sympathy or relief. This book presents God as totally good and ready and willing to provide good things for us.

Book Absolute Zero and the Conquest of Cold

Download or read book Absolute Zero and the Conquest of Cold written by Tom Shachtman and published by HMH. This book was released on 2000-12-12 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A lovely, fascinating book, which brings science to life.” —Alan Lightman Combining science, history, and adventure, Tom Shachtman “holds the reader’s attention with the skill of a novelist” as he chronicles the story of humans’ four-centuries-long quest to master the secrets of cold (Scientific American). “A disarming portrait of an exquisite, ferocious, world-ending extreme,” Absolute Zero and the Conquest of Cold demonstrates how temperature science produced astonishing scientific insights and applications that have revolutionized civilization (Kirkus Reviews). It also illustrates how scientific advancement, fueled by fortuitous discoveries and the efforts of determined individuals, has allowed people to adapt to—and change—the environments in which they live and work, shaping man’s very understanding of, and relationship, with the world. This “truly wonderful book” was adapted into an acclaimed documentary underwritten by the National Science Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, directed by British Emmy Award winner David Dugan, and aired on the BBC and PBS’s Nova in 2008 (Library Journal). “An absorbing account to chill out with.” —Booklist

Lewis " Whether one is trying for the first time to find out what my stepfather wrote about a particular topic, or whether one is having difficulty remembering the exact place of a passage read previously, the "C.S. Lewis Index will prove invaluable." --Douglas Gresham, Author of "Lenten Lands: My Childhood with Joy Davidman and C.S. Lewis " A true boon to all who would mine the motherlode of Lewis's writings. Goffar's index is a reliable and well-researched guide to real treasure." --Dr. J. Stanley Mattson, Founder and President of the C.S. Lewis Foundation " A wonderful book. It is and will be invaluable for every serious student of Lewis." --George Sayer, Author of "Jack: A Life of C.S. Lewis " Janine Goffar's "Index to Lewis's theological works is one of the most useful books that has ever appeared on Lewis." --Dr. Thomas Howard, Professor of English at St. John's College; Author of "C.S. Lewis: Man of Letters " A monumental achievement and major contribution to Lewis studies." --Christopher W. Mitchell, Director of The Marion E. Wade Center at Wheaton College " Goffar's work is a masterpiece of economy. Part of her gift to us is her talent for selecting just the right phrase, giving us just enough to let us know we've found the right quote or idea, sending us on to the original, and allowing space for more entries. This is a work much needed and long overdue." --Wayne Martindale, Associate Professor of English at Wheaton College " Whether one is hunting for a particular quotation or sampling Lewis's thoughts on a given subject, this resource may quickly become one of the most well-thumbed on the bookshelf." --"Christianity Today " A necessary aid, making all of Lewis's thought accessible categorically. I highly recommend it " --Jerry Root, Co-editor of "The Quotable Lewis " Not only a useful--indeed, a necessary--addition to our efforts to apprehend C.S. Lewis, but a noble one. I shall visit this index continually." --Dr. James Como, Editor of " CSL: The Bulletin of the New York C.S. Lewis Society" and Author of "C.S. Lewis at the Breakfast Table What began as Janine Goffar's years-long personal project in hand-written notebooks has grown to this comprehensive, much-endorsed volume for all Lewis scholars and fans. She is an active member of the Southern California C.S. Lewis Society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Thought experiments have long been a vital part of the creative, intellectual process in modern science-and, by extension, so have "demons." Demons are hypothetical beings imagined by scientists to perform specific roles within thought experiments-embodying special powers or abilities and personifying tough intellectual challenges or highlighting apparent paradoxes. They are used as a way of exploring what would happen if one fiddled with or upset the sturdiest of physical laws, or experimented with physical or natural processes or phenomena in ways that the scientist imagining them otherwise could not. As such, they help clarify the limits of what is possible in the physical world, or show weaknesses in our understanding of an observable phenomenon, or highlight cracks in a hypothesis or theory. Unencumbered by the physicality of our concrete world, demons are thus useful to scientists in their intellectual quest to understand how nature works, and in the creative exploration of the frontiers of science"--

Download or read book Higgs written by Jim Baggott and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2012-08-13 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hunt for the Higgs particle has involved the biggest, most expensive experiment ever. So exactly what is this particle? Why does it matter so much? What does it tell us about the Universe? Did the discovery announced on 4 July 2012 finish the search? And was finding it really worth all the effort? The short answer is yes. The Higgs field is proposed as the way in which particles gain mass - a fundamental property of matter. It's the strongest indicator yet that the Standard Model of physics really does reflect the basic building blocks of our Universe. Little wonder the hunt and discovery of this new particle produced such intense media interest. Here, Jim Baggott explains the science behind the discovery, looking at how the concept of a Higgs field was invented, how the vast experiment was carried out, and its implications on our understanding of all mass in the Universe.

Book Deleuze and Philosophy

Download or read book Deleuze and Philosophy written by Keith Ansell-Pearson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-03-11 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work of Gilles Deleuze has had an impact far beyond philosophy. He is among Foucault and Derrida as one of the most cited of all contemporary French thinkers. Never a student 'of' philosophy, Deleuze was always philosophical and many influential poststructuralist and postmodernist texts can be traced to his celebrated resurrection of Nietzsche against Hegel in his Nietzsche and Philosophy, from which this collection draws its title. This searching new collection considers Deleuze's relation to the philosophical tradition and beyond to the future of philosophy, science and technology. In addition to considering Deleuze's imaginative readings of classic figures such as Spinoza and Kant, the essays also point to the meaning of Deleuze on 'monstrous' and machinic thinking, on philosophy and engineering, on philosophy and biology, on modern painting and literature. Deleuze and Philosophy continues the spirit of experimentation and invention that features in Deleuze's work and will appeal to those studying across philosophy, social theory, literature and cultural studies who themselves are seeking new paradigms of thought.
