Download or read book Wheels Lateral Impact Test Procedure Road Vehicles written by Wheel Standards Committee and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The SAE Recommended Practice establishes minimum performance requirements and related uniform laboratory test procedures for evaluating lateral (curb) impact collision resistance of all wheels intended for use on passenger cars and light trucks.A process of compensating for frictional losses is recommended to minimize test variation between machines and assure the anticipated velocity is met. The machine calibrator will determine the Adjusted Drop Height (ADH) that the respective machine must drop from to replicate 230 mm of free fall.Certifying the spring rate of the four rubber mounts is difficult in the apparatus as originally shown in the document. An alternate method to certify the spring rate is provided using common load vs deflection machines. One can certify rubber mounts four at a time.Test pressures for temporary T' and light truck LT' applications are provided since they operate at pressures substantially different than passenger P' tires. The intent is to test the wheel at the lower end of the pressure specified for the application. The document title is changed to include "Lateral Impact" to distinguish it from the road hazard impact test that uses an impact in a radial direction per SAE J1981.Reports for the lateral impact test and calibration are in the appendix to ensure uniform reporting. Refer to Appendix A. An alternate construction allowing for constraining the rubber mount and rotating the wheel while on the machine is provided. Background of Lateral Impact Test Procedure Road Vehicles is provided. Refer to Appendix C.

Book Wheels Rims Truck and Bus Performance Requirements and Test Procedures for Radial and Cornering Fatigue

Download or read book Wheels Rims Truck and Bus Performance Requirements and Test Procedures for Radial and Cornering Fatigue written by Truck and Bus Wheel Committee and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice provides minimum performance requirements and uniform laboratory procedures for fatigue testing of wheels and demountable rims intended for normal highway use on trucks, buses, truck-trailers, and multipurpose vehicles. Users may establish design criteria exceeding the minimum performance requirement for added confidence in a design. The cycle requirements noted in Tables 1 and 2 are based on Weibull statistics using 2 parameter, median ranks, 50% confidence level and 90% reliability, and beta equal to 2, typically noted as B10C50. For other wheels intended for normal highway use and temporary use on passenger cars, light trucks, and multipurpose vehicles, see SAE J328. For wheels used on trailers drawn by passenger cars, light trucks, or multipurpose vehicles, see SAE J1204. For bolt together military wheels, see SAE J1992. This document does not cover other special application wheels and rims. SAE J267 practitioners have typically performed multiple cornering and radial fatigue tests when assessing a wheel design's conformance with this recommended practice. Running multiple tests enhances the confidence and reliability of the results. In this revision, this common practice has been formalized by introducing a set of sample sizes and corresponding cycle requirements based on Weibull statistics.Previous publications of SAE J267 contained terminology to "provide minimum performance requirements". This terminology was not consistently interpreted by practitioners. To clarify the meaning, a definition of the term "minimum performance requirement" has been added. An additional cause for termination was added for aluminum wheels.
