But unconscious bias holds us back, and de-biasing people’s minds has proven to be difficult and expensive. By de-biasing organizations instead of individuals, we can make smart changes that have big impacts. Presenting research-based solutions, Iris Bohnet hands us the tools we need to move the needle in classrooms and boardrooms, in hiring and promotion, benefiting businesses, governments, and the lives of millions. “Bohnet assembles an impressive assortment of studies that demonstrate how organizations can achieve gender equity in practice...What Works is stuffed with good ideas, many equally simple to implement.” —Carol Tavris, Wall Street Journal “A practical guide for any employer seeking to offset the unconscious bias holding back women in organizations, from orchestras to internet companies.” —Andrew Hill, Financial Times

Book Advances and Applications of DSmT for Information Fusion Collected Works Volume 5

Download or read book Advances and Applications of DSmT for Information Fusion Collected Works Volume 5 written by Florentin Smarandache and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on 2023-12-27 with total page 932 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fifth volume on Advances and Applications of DSmT for Information Fusion collects theoretical and applied contributions of researchers working in different fields of applications and in mathematics, and is available in open-access. The collected contributions of this volume have either been published or presented after disseminating the fourth volume in 2015 (available at fs.unm.edu/DSmT-book4.pdf or www.onera.fr/sites/default/files/297/2015-DSmT-Book4.pdf) in international conferences, seminars, workshops and journals, or they are new. The contributions of each part of this volume are chronologically ordered. First Part of this book presents some theoretical advances on DSmT, dealing mainly with modified Proportional Conflict Redistribution Rules (PCR) of combination with degree of intersection, coarsening techniques, interval calculus for PCR thanks to set inversion via interval analysis (SIVIA), rough set classifiers, canonical decomposition of dichotomous belief functions, fast PCR fusion, fast inter-criteria analysis with PCR, and improved PCR5 and PCR6 rules preserving the (quasi-)neutrality of (quasi-)vacuous belief assignment in the fusion of sources of evidence with their Matlab codes. Because more applications of DSmT have emerged in the past years since the apparition of the fourth book of DSmT in 2015, the second part of this volume is about selected applications of DSmT mainly in building change detection, object recognition, quality of data association in tracking, perception in robotics, risk assessment for torrent protection and multi-criteria decision-making, multi-modal image fusion, coarsening techniques, recommender system, levee characterization and assessment, human heading perception, trust assessment, robotics, biometrics, failure detection, GPS systems, inter-criteria analysis, group decision, human activity recognition, storm prediction, data association for autonomous vehicles, identification of maritime vessels, fusion of support vector machines (SVM), Silx-Furtif RUST code library for information fusion including PCR rules, and network for ship classification. Finally, the third part presents interesting contributions related to belief functions in general published or presented along the years since 2015. These contributions are related with decision-making under uncertainty, belief approximations, probability transformations, new distances between belief functions, non-classical multi-criteria decision-making problems with belief functions, generalization of Bayes theorem, image processing, data association, entropy and cross-entropy measures, fuzzy evidence numbers, negator of belief mass, human activity recognition, information fusion for breast cancer therapy, imbalanced data classification, and hybrid techniques mixing deep learning with belief functions as well. We want to thank all the contributors of this fifth volume for their research works and their interests in the development of DSmT, and the belief functions. We are grateful as well to other colleagues for encouraging us to edit this fifth volume, and for sharing with us several ideas and for their questions and comments on DSmT through the years. We thank the International Society of Information Fusion (www.isif.org) for diffusing main research works related to information fusion (including DSmT) in the international fusion conferences series over the years. Florentin Smarandache is grateful to The University of New Mexico, U.S.A., that many times partially sponsored him to attend international conferences, workshops and seminars on Information Fusion. Jean Dezert is grateful to the Department of Information Processing and Systems (DTIS) of the French Aerospace Lab (Office National d’E´tudes et de Recherches Ae´rospatiales), Palaiseau, France, for encouraging him to carry on this research and for its financial support. Albena Tchamova is first of all grateful to Dr. Jean Dezert for the opportunity to be involved during more than 20 years to follow and share his smart and beautiful visions and ideas in the development of the powerful Dezert-Smarandache Theory for data fusion. She is also grateful to the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, for sponsoring her to attend international conferences on Information Fusion.

Book Differentiation at Work K 5

Download or read book Differentiation at Work K 5 written by Lane Narvaez and published by Corwin Press. This book was released on 2010-04-21 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on research and the authors' experiences over the past seven years at one elementary school, Differentiation at Work, K-5 describes what schoolwide differentiation looks like in real classrooms. Lane Narvaez and Kay R. Brimijoin go beyond the "easy" definition of differentiation and describe why administrators and teachers need to receive training and ongoing support in order to achieve differentiated instruction that is responsive to students' readiness, learning styles, and interests. Their model is based on several core elements, including student feedback, the use of anchor activities, peer (teacher) collaboration, pre-assessment, and curriculum alignment. The book includes sample lesson designs that include supplemental materials, and lessons are categorized by readiness, interest, and learning style differentiation. The authors also address the topic of management and share a set of tools that have proven highly effective for facilitating and enhancing differentiation. Finally, they discuss the challenge of sustaining second order change, the role parents play in nurturing and sustaining such change, and the future possibilities for any school involved in a similar journey.

This book was released on 2016-04-14 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding and Managing Children’s Behaviour through Group Work Ages 3-5 provides the reader with an insight into children’s emotional well-being and helps them to understand what and how children communicate and how to respond in a way that provides positive messages, increases their emotional vocabulary and encourages them to change their behaviour. It provides an alternative and effective child centred way of managing children’s behaviour through introducing the concept of reflective language and other tools, equipping staff with new skills that are transferable across the school in any role. The book is divided into two sections, enabling the reader to link theory with practice. The first section takes the reader on a journey to help them understand the different factors that influence children’s behaviour. The second section of the book focuses on the group work programmes, how they can be used, their value and the impact they can have on children and the classroom environment as a whole. The activities in the group work programme explore the concept of using reflective language as a behaviour management tool and are designed to motivate, build confidence, self-esteem and resilience. Useful pedagogical features throughout the book include:- Practitioner and classroom management tips and reflective tasks; Strategies and practical ideas for staff to use to help them engage more deeply with the contents of the book; Flexible, tried and tested group work programmes designed to promote inclusion rather than exclusion; Clear step by step instructions for delivering the work programmes; Case studies showing behaviour examples with detailed explanations for the behaviour and strategies to respond to it. The book is aimed at all early years practitioners and any students training to work with children of E.Y.F.S age. It is also recommended reading for SENCOs and trainee teachers and will also be useful for therapists who work with children and are looking at delivering other approaches in their work.

Book Strategy That Works

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to close the gap between strategy and execution Two-thirds of executives say their organizations don’t have the capabilities to support their strategy. In Strategy That Works, Paul Leinwand and Cesare Mainardi explain why. They identify conventional business practices that unintentionally create a gap between strategy and execution. And they show how some of the best companies in the world consistently leap ahead of their competitors. Based on new research, the authors reveal five practices for connecting strategy and execution used by highly successful enterprises such as IKEA, Natura, Danaher, Haier, and Lego. These companies: • Commit to what they do best instead of chasing multiple opportunities • Build their own unique winning capabilities instead of copying others • Put their culture to work instead of struggling to change it • Invest where it matters instead of going lean across the board • Shape the future instead of reacting to it Packed with tools you can use for building these five practices into your organization and supported by in-depth profiles of companies that are known for making their strategy work, this is your guide for reconnecting strategy to execution.
