Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that the only guaranteed event that each and every living being, whether male or female, rich or poor, black or white, sick or healthy, must go through is death. Despite the uneasiness people feel in talking about or even merely thinking about this dark topic, due to its unavoidable and inevitable nature, it only makes sense to prepare for it. This publication is designed to allow people to fully prepare for its occurrence in the event of someone in the near family passing away. It features a practical guide of what needs to be done, fulfilling both governmental and Islamic requirements. It then goes through the complete Islamic rites of passage, including the relevant prayers and un-Islamic customs and practices which are to be categorically avoided. While this publication deals with what needs to be performed at the time of someone else's death, it's also hoped that it will be a reminder for each of us to prepare for our own inevitable end.

Book excerpt: This book discusses the common principles of morality and ethics derived from divinely endowed intuitive reason through the creation of al-fitr' a (nature) and human intellect (al-‘aql). Biomedical topics are presented and ethical issues related to topics such as genetic testing, assisted reproduction and organ transplantation are discussed. Whereas these natural sources are God’s special gifts to human beings, God’s revelation as given to the prophets is the supernatural source of divine guidance through which human communities have been guided at all times through history. The second part of the book concentrates on the objectives of Islamic religious practice – the maqa' sid – which include: Preservation of Faith, Preservation of Life, Preservation of Mind (intellect and reason), Preservation of Progeny (al-nasl) and Preservation of Property. Lastly, the third part of the book discusses selected topical issues, including abortion, assisted reproduction devices, genetics, organ transplantation, brain death and end-of-life aspects. For each topic, the current medical evidence is followed by a detailed discussion of the ethical issues involved.

Book Death Resurrection and Human Destiny

Download or read book Death Resurrection and Human Destiny written by David Marshall and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2014-04-29 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death, Resurrection, and Human Destiny: Christian and Muslim Perspectives is a record of the 2012 Building Bridges seminar for leading Christian and Muslim scholars, convened by Rowan Williams, then Archbishop of Canterbury. The essays in this volume explore what the Bible and Qurān—and the Christian and Islamic theological traditions—have to say about death, resurrection, and human destiny. Special attention is given to the writings of al-Ghazali and Dante. Other essays explore the notion of the good death. Funeral practices of each tradition are explained. Relevant texts are included with commentary, as are personal reflections on death by several of the seminar participants. An account of the informal conversations at the seminar conveys a vivid sense of the lively, penetrating, but respectful dialogue which took place. Three short pieces by Rowan Williams provide his opening comments at the seminar and his reflections on its proceedings. The volume also contains an analysis of the Building Bridges Seminar after a decade of his leadership.

Book Human Souls Journey After Death In Islam

Download or read book Human Souls Journey After Death In Islam written by Muhammad Vandestra and published by Blurb. This book was released on 2019-05-22 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine yourself at the moment of your death. What thoughts cross your mind? Memories of family and friends? Panic? Regrets? Remembrance of Allah? What is death? What happens to us after we die? What is life in the Hereafter like, this new and strange world after death? Do we lose consciousness of this life? Where does our soul go? Do we feel and think the same? The ineffable feeling of crossing the boundary between this world and the next cannot be described in words, nor imagined in the mind, but can be understood only through divine revealation and inspiration. Let us for the next few moments seek an understanding of this, death, the only certainty in life. Sometimes we may not want to know about the processes that occur after we die because we are afraid or don't want to think about it. However, this is not the attitude of a Muslim. We should be foremost in learning and understanding death, so we can live our lives accordingly. The prophet (saw) said, "Live in this world as though you are a stranger or a traveler (passing through it)." [Muslim] We are on a journey and should know about the whole journey's itinerary, not just one part. Death is inevitable. It is the one thing that we can be certain about in life. We are born to die. Every soul shall have a taste of death no matter who they are. This is confirmed for us many times in the Quran: "Every soul shall have a taste of death: and only on the Day of Judgement shall you be paid your full recompense." (Quran 3:185) "Every soul shall have a taste of death: and We test you by evil and by good, by way of trial. To Us must you return." (21:35) "Every soul shall have a taste of death: In the end to Us shall you be brought back." (29:57) Death is not pure annihilation, but rather both the living and dead are aware, but there is a difference that can't be compared. Death is merely movement from one world to another. It can be described as a journey through a wormhole to a separate dimension of existence.

Book A Practical Guide to Funeral Rites In Islam

Download or read book A Practical Guide to Funeral Rites In Islam written by Maulana Ebrahim Noor and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-05 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A person is born into this world, spends a little time and then passes away. Allāh (Swt) mentions in the Holy Qur'ān: "Every soul has to taste death"The one thing we can all be sure about and cannot deny, is the fact that one day we will all be leaving this earth. Our life on this earth is merely a journey to our real abode in the hereafter. The Messenger of Allāh (Swt) mentions in a Ḥadīth: "Live in this world as if you are a traveller or a wayfarer".In another Ḥadīth, the Messenger of Allāh (saw) mentions: "The intelligent person is the one who controls his self-desires and performs deeds for after his death, and the helpless person is the one who follows his self-desires and relies on Allāh (Swt)"This booklet does not go over all the preparations one must make before they pass away as our whole lives should be preparation for the hereafter, but I will cover the necessary steps we must take as Muslims when another Muslim is about to pass away or passes away. This is a time of great grief and sadness which can lead people to perform acts which are against Sharīʿah and are classified as 'Bidʿah' - innovation. People sometimes spend lavishly on funerals in the same way as they spend at weddings. People become a burden on the family of the deceased expecting to be dined on several occasions and the atmosphere at the funeral house may become contrary to the event. Many actions are done with the thinking that there is a basis for it in our religion, but the reality is that there is no evidence to support them.Rather than go through all the innovative practises, I have identified the actions for which there is sound evidence. I have provided references where required, so we can have peace of mind that we are carrying out all of the rituals correctly. We will comprehensively review the process which will enable the burial to take place quickly, easily and most importantly in accordance with Sharīʿah.Some of the subjects we will cover are as follows: What do we do when we see someone passing away? What legal paperwork do we need to go through with the burial? How to prepare the Kafan (shroud) and bathe the body of the deceasedThe correct burial process according to SharīʿahThe period of mourning and information on ʿIddahEtiquettes of visiting the house of the deceasedWhat can we do for those who have passed aw
