Book The religion of Orange politics

Download or read book The religion of Orange politics written by Joseph Webster and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The religion of Orange politics offers an in-depth anthropological account of the Orange Order in Scotland. Based on ethnographic research collected before, during, and after the Scottish independence referendum, Joseph Webster details how Scotland’s largest Protestant-only fraternity shapes the lives of its members and the communities in which they live. Within this Masonic-inspired 'society with secrets', Scottish Orangemen learn how transform themselves and their fellow brethren into what they regard to be ideal British citizens. For many Scots-Orangemen, being British means being ultra-Protestant and ultra-unionist, but also frequently comes to be marked by pointedly anti-Catholic sentiments, and by a wider set of often deliberately sectarian political, cultural, and footballing loyalties. It is from this ethnographic context – framed by ritual initiations, loyalist marches, fraternal drinking, and constitutional campaigning – that the key questions of the book emerge: What is the relationship between fraternal love and sectarian hate? Can religiously motivated bigotry and exclusion be part of human experiences of ‘The Good?’ What does it mean to claim that one’s religious community is utterly exceptional – a literal ‘race apart’?

If we can understand what the Bible is saying about these great themes, we can apply them to daily living and have happier, more productive lives.

Book 100 Ways to Understand and Say No to Badness

Download or read book 100 Ways to Understand and Say No to Badness written by Ricardo Steinkohl and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To do good things requires knowing yourself and at least something about others. These are both substantial activities and experiences in life. It takes learning (sometimes unlearning) and also to know there is pacing as to how these things can and do happen. It is not intended to primarily aspire to great achievements, although things sometimes feel that way and I can honestly say to have experienced peaks and lows and found my way to travel back and forth without overshooting either way. A nice way to look at it is to be able to navigate that which we are already doing, and of course, there can be room for more if wanted. The happenings of the various types of people and situations, and yes, issues, are very much relevant to the understanding of ourselves. They are not all significant but accumulate they will, and knowing who one has been, one would think it a desirable prospect to explore. If some already have a good idea, then all is well and good for that purpose. But the experiences I have had in life are varied, and although dramatic enough, I seem to have escaped going into the haphazard category—although it seems sometimes I scratched upon it. The background is not as important as the realities in which we are all involved. Sometimes heavy, sometimes easily and enjoyably manageable, it is okay to face the range of things with a confident—if not cautious—approach. I believe it is safe and rewarding and sometimes emotional and difficult. But this book has a positive purpose. And with the often-used expression to those who accept it, “with a little help from above,” this overview of how not to feel buried in this complicated life is a concise push to what seems important. And resting and relaxing and utilizing energy that way is certainly included in that.

Book A Love So Forbidden That Only God Can Understand

Download or read book A Love So Forbidden That Only God Can Understand written by T.J. Edwards and published by T & J Publications Present. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They tried to murder me over her. They tried to kill her over me. It destroyed our families. Lives and relationships were lost. They said we would never make it. Our backs were against the wall and against all odds. What level of pain would you be willing to go through to find that pure unconditional love? Would you risk your life to receive it? What sacrifices would you be willing to lay on the line? Meet T.J. Edwards; a young man born into a broken family full of tragedy, chaos, physical and sexual abuse. He had been groomed to believe that feelings and emotions were for the weak. That love was not real, nonexistent. He never thought he would find true unconditional love within the arms of a woman he was forbidden to cross those lines with. But from the moment the two stepped into each other’s paths, they knew that their love was something they wouldn’t allow any man or woman to penetrate. Their journey is one for the ages. It includes treachery, back-stabbing, murder, drama, exposed family secrets, and taboo situations that will leave the reader gasping for breath. In this well written tell all autobiography of love, T.J. Edwards lays it all on the line and proves that when a man truly loves a woman, he will be ready to do anything for the sake of her, even if it costs him his life.
