Answering questions like these are the building blocks to our faith and our walk with God. Our actions are affected by our beliefs, so identifying what we believe is not only helpful but also essential as we navigate life. God's love for us invites us to come to him and be part of His work here on earth. Come on a journey as we look at challenging questions and what God says in His Word about each topic. My prayer for each of you is that you grow in knowledge and love for your creator.

Book If God Meant to Interfere

Download or read book If God Meant to Interfere written by Christopher Douglas and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-12 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rise of the Christian Right took many writers and literary critics by surprise, trained as we were to think that religions waned as societies became modern. In If God Meant to Interfere, Christopher Douglas shows that American writers struggled to understand and respond to this new social and political force. Religiously inflected literature since the 1970s must be understood in the context of this unforeseen resurgence of conservative Christianity, he argues, a resurgence that realigned the literary and cultural fields. Among the writers Douglas considers are Marilynne Robinson, Barbara Kingsolver, Cormac McCarthy, Thomas Pynchon, Ishmael Reed, N. Scott Momaday, Gloria Anzaldúa, Philip Roth, Carl Sagan, and Dan Brown. Their fictions engaged a wide range of topics: religious conspiracies, faith and wonder, slavery and imperialism, evolution and extraterrestrial contact, alternate histories and ancestral spiritualities. But this is only part of the story. Liberal-leaning literary writers responding to the resurgence were sometimes confused by the Christian Right’s strange entanglement with the contemporary paradigms of multiculturalism and postmodernism —leading to complex emergent phenomena that Douglas terms "Christian multiculturalism" and "Christian postmodernism." Ultimately, If God Meant to Interfere shows the value of listening to our literature for its sometimes subterranean attention to the religious and social upheavals going on around it.

Book God Means What He Says

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dennis Stackhouse
  • Publisher : Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
  • Release : 2020-02-26
  • ISBN : 1098017285
  • Pages : 249 pages

Download or read book God Means What He Says written by Dennis Stackhouse and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-02-26 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever heard anyone ask, "Does God really mean what He says"? That sounds like a silly question, doesn't it, especially if you claim to be a Christian? But even as a Christian, have you ever thought, "Well, I know this is what God said I'm supposed to do, but it doesn't seem that He would mind if I did it my way"? If so, did you realize you may be putting your own will above God's will, that you could be defying and disobeying God's direct commands? The ultimate question is, Are you expressing obedience to God and His desires through your words, actions, and thoughts? Do His commands guide your life, causing you to flee from sinful activities and live in purity and holiness? The objective of this book and the impact it should have on each of our lives can be simply stated in the question: "Does God really mean what He says?" From the Christian perspective, we would quickly say that we do believe God means what He says. But again, does our life reflect that profession? You see, how we live our lives is an undeniable demonstration of whether or not we believe that God means what He says. Have you truly died to sin, which is an expectation God has for His followers? If not, can you truly say that you believe God means what He says? Does your life reflect a purity and holiness that is consistent with the pattern found in God's word? If not, can you truly say that you believe God means what He says? These and other related issues which are vital to all of us will be explored in this book. Most importantly, throughout the course of our study together, we will rely upon the only source of divine authority for our answers: the word of God. Once we have completed this journey, my fervent prayer is that each of us will not hesitate even one moment to answer the question, "Does God really mean what He says?" with a resounding yes! This is critical because, as we shall see, God does mean what He says.

Book If God is For Us Study Guide

Download or read book If God is For Us Study Guide written by Keith Thomas and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-02-12 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like soldiers walking into a minefield, there are some things in life that are unseen but deadly. Just because you may be unaware of something dangerous, it doesn't mean it cannot affect you. There is an old saying "what you don't know can't hurt you." Although it is true that knowledge can bring with it pain, it is much better to be forewarned about danger than to ignore it. In Keith's latest study, If God is For Us, he leads us through the scriptures that help us see that God is for us, and what this means as far as our Christian faith and walk. We have no need to fear when we are assured that God always has, is, and always will provide and protect us. Keith's study brings freedom so that Christians can focus on what God has placed them here for, instead of worrying about spiritual attacks. You will understand the enemy's schemes and learn to walk in your victory.

Its extent reaches down to the flight of electrons, up to the movements of galaxies, and into the heart of man. Its nature is wise and just and good. And its goal is the Christ-exalting glorification of God through the gladness of a redeemed people in a new world. Drawing on a lifetime of theological reflection, biblical study, and practical ministry, pastor and author John Piper leads us on a stunning tour of the sightings of God's providence—from Genesis to Revelation—to discover the allencompassing reality of God's purposeful sovereignty over all of creation and all of history. Piper invites us to experience the profound effects of knowing the God of all-pervasive providence: the intensifying of true worship, the solidifying of wavering conviction, the strengthening of embattled faith, the toughening of joyful courage, and the advance of God's mission in this world.

Book Seeing and savouring Jesus Christ

Download or read book Seeing and savouring Jesus Christ written by JOHN PIPER and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2020-05-21 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is Jesus Christ? You've never met Him in person, and you don't know anyone who has. But there is a way to know who he is. How? Jesus Christ - the divine Person revealed in the Bible - has a unique excellence and a spiritual beauty that speaks directly to our souls and says, "Yes, this is truth." It's like seeing the sun and knowing that it is light, or tasting honey and knowing that it is sweet. The depth and complexity of Jesus shatter our simple mental frameworks. He baffled proud scribes with his wisdom but was understood and loved by children. He calmed a raging storm with a word but would not get himself down from the cross. Look at the Jesus of the Bible. Keep your eyes open, and fill them with the portrait of Jesus in God's Word. Jesus said, "If anyone's will is to do God's will, He will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority." Ask God for the grace to do His will, and you will see the truth of His Son. John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an L. A. County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator. Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.

Download or read book He Said She Said But What Does God Say written by Tommy Steele and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge. (Hosea 4:6)This book is written to give divine revelation of the heart of God, when it comes to His thoughts and His kingdom assignment for kingdom families. What do I mean by kingdom families? Our God is a King, he has a kingdom and those of us who are saved or have a relationship with Him, through His son Jesus Christ, we are his servants. The Bible is the constitution or spiritual laws, which come from our King, on how things are supposed to be. In Isaiah 55:8-9 God said his ways and his thoughts are so much higher than ours. Psalms 100:3 says "it is he that made us and not we ourselves".We are his people, He is the manufacturer of all relationships and this is what He says about how you as His product, are supposed to function.Ephesians 2:8-9 says you are saved by grace through faith. Notice verse 10 says we are his workmanship (product). Just as a car must have gas, oil, and water to function; if the gas, oil or water is not placed where it was designed to be placed by the manufacturer it will cause that car to malfunction. If your home is not functioning right, maybe there is something in this book that will overhaul your family and restore your relationships to a place that you have always dreamed.

Book God Conversations

  • Pages : 222 pages

Download or read book God Conversations written by Tania Harris and published by Authentic. This book was released on 2017 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do I know it's God? is one of the most commonly asked questions of new and mature Christians alike, and the aim of God Conversations is to both equip and inspire the reader and show them that hearing the voice of the Spirit is accessible to everyone who chooses to follow Jesus. Most Christians know that God speaks, yet struggle with how to recognise his voice in their everyday lives. What does God's voice sound like? How do we know if what we're hearing is from God? Stories of God talking to his people abound throughout the Bible, but we usually only get the highlights. We read; "And God said to Joseph; 'Go to Egypt'," and then; "Mary and Joseph left for Egypt." We don't get a blow-by-blow description of how God spoke. We don't receive a detailed explanation of how they knew it was God, and we don't get to see what was going on inside their heads as they acted on what they'd heard. In God Conversations, international speaker and pastor Tania Harris shares insights from her own journey about hearing God's voice. You'll get to eavesdrop on some contemporary conversations with God in the light of his communication with the ancient characters of the Bible. Part memoir, part teaching, this unique and creative collection of stories will help you to recognise God's voice when he speaks and how to respond when you do.

Download or read book Messages From God written by Dorothy Mattingly and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-03-08 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first pages of my book, there you will find my testimony and how the messages came about. My Testimony I've been a Christian for over twenty-five years, visited other churches and participated in praise and worship. I am a member of Trinity Assembly of God and serves in many capacities including serving as a board member, helping others in need, also giving time and personal finances and possessions to those less fortunate than myself, attending church services sitting quietly in the pew three times a week or more during times of revival. I have worked about thirty to forty years cleaning houses, offices, churches, and funeral homes. After retirement, I started having breathing problems around home and decided to see my doctor. One visit lead to a referral to other doctors and a lot of tests. After all the tests, the diagnosis was restricted lung disease which means my lungs don't produce oxygen for the actions of my body. I am now on oxygen 24/7. After some research online, I discovered there is no cure or medicine that will heal me other than a lung transplant or a miracle. I'm praying for that miracle. Like any life-threatening disease, the actual effects didn't sink in until one night while lying in bed trying to go to sleep; I was praying and crying out to the Lord. I was asking him, "If I take my last breath tonight and come to heaven, what would you say to me?" The Lord said, "I know you not." But I reminded the Lord of all the good things I had done in his name, all the people I had personally helped even taking money from my wallet to give to others. I said, "Lord, I've helped people to pay their utilities bills. Lord, you knew me before I was born." Again he said, "I know you not." I was devastated and hurt. The next morning when I looked in the dictionary for the meaning of to know, I found three meanings. Everyone understands what the word means. What the Lord wanted me to understand is this: All the years of reading and studying the Holy Bible, I knew of him, about him, but did not know him. So this is why he said he didn't know me because I didn't have a relationship with him. So deciding to rectify the situation, I decided to start spending time with the Lord. Every morning for the last three years, I have been spending quality time with the Lord in worship, devotions, prayer, and Bible study. Then the Lord started giving me messages for all people. At first, they were sentences and then paragraphs and finally entire messages. The Lord has been gracious enough to give me hundreds of messages and warnings for his people. I've learned from all the messages that the main point the Lord wanted from his people is for them to get and develop a closer relationship with him in these last days. Also, some of the messages are meant to teach and help individuals to live a righteous life in these perilous times. He is concerned for those that are lost. It's my desire that these precious words from God will help, encourage, and enlighten all people from all nations. His faithful servant, Dorothy Mattingly

Book No More Faking Fine

  • Author : Esther Fleece Allen
  • Publisher : Zondervan

  • Pages : 220 pages

Download or read book No More Faking Fine written by Esther Fleece Allen and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2017-01-10 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scripture reveals a God who meets us where we are, not where we pretend to be. No More Faking Fine is your invitation to get honest with God through the life-giving language of lament. If you've ever been given empty clichés during challenging times, you know how painful it is to be misunderstood by well-meaning people. When life hurts, we often feel pressure--from others and ourselves--to keep it together, suck it up, or pray it away. But Scripture reveals a God who lovingly invites us to give honest voice to our emotions when life hits hard. For most of her life, Esther Fleece Allen believed she could bypass the painful emotions of her broken past by shutting them down altogether. She was known as an achiever and an overcomer on the fast track to success. But in silencing her pain, she robbed herself of the opportunity to be healed. Maybe you've done the same. Esther's journey into healing began when she discovered that God has given us a real-world way to deal with raw emotions and an alternative to the coping mechanisms that end up causing more pain. It's called lament--the gut-level, honest prayer that God never ignores, never silences, and never wastes. No More Faking Fine is your permission to lament, taking you on a journey down the unexpected pathway to true intimacy with God. Drawing from careful biblical study and hard-won insight, Esther reveals how to use God's own language to come closer to him as he leads us through our pain to the light on the other side, teaching you that: We are robbing ourselves of a divine mystery and a divine intimacy when we pretend to have it all together God does not expect us to be perfect; instead, he meets us where we are There is hope beyond your heartache, disappointment, and grief Like Esther, you'll soon find that when one person stops faking fine, it gives everyone else permission to do the same.
