Download or read book Where Has Grandma Gone written by Anne F. Butler and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-04-22 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a mental health therapist contracted at a nursing home and rehab for thirteen years, I had the opportunity to observe the reactions of children visiting a loved one. My clients were those with mental health issues, various kinds of dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. Most of these would spend the rest of their lives there. It was especially disturbing to see the responses or lack of responses of the children visiting Alzheimer’s patients. It was so obvious they did not understand the change in their loved one, and it made them fearful. Also, the patient, most often a grandparent, would be disturbed that the child did not respond to them as they remembered. It was even more disturbing to a child, as their loved one moved through the more advanced stages of Alzheimer’s. Due to my concern for these children, I wanted to write a story that would help them understand Alzheimer’s disease and dispel their fear. Where Has Grandma Gone? is a story to be read by the child. Later pages will contain information for the adult reader. The writing of this book has been my dream for many years as I’ve seen the need for such a book. My prayer is that this book will be of great value to all those having to deal with Alzheimer’s disease. May God bless the reader and strengthen them in all their ways.

It includes an overview of dementias as well as ways to cope with behaviors. Communication is also an important aspect covered. Research updates as well as possible resources for the caregiver are included. Activities of daily living and a lifestyle enhancement program are featured. A brief section on the medical side is included but again this book is not designed from the clinical prospective and its focus is toward helping caregivers cope with their current situation of taking care of someone with Alzheimer's. Short summaries of caregivers that found their "light in the tunnel" are included as the last chapter. The first chapter is about taking care of your self because the caregiver will find it a difficult feat to continue to care for someone with Alzheimer's if taking care of themselves is not a priority. Book Contented Dementia

Book excerpt: Dementia is a little understood and currently incurable illness, but much can be done to maximise the quality of life for people with the condition. Contented Dementia - by clinical psychologist and bestselling author Oliver James - outlines a groundbreaking and practical method for managing dementia that will allow both sufferer and carer to maintain the highest possible quality of life, throughout every stage of the illness. A person with dementia will experience random and increasingly frequent memory blanks relating to recent events. Feelings, however, remain intact, as do memories of past events and both can be used in a special way to substitute for more recent information that has been lost. The SPECAL method (Specialized Early Care for Alzheimer's) outlined in this book works by creating links between past memories and the routine activities of daily life in the present. Drawing on real-life examples and user-friendly tried-and-tested methods, Contented Dementia provides essential information and guidance for carers, relatives and professionals.
