Book Working for the Japanese Myths and Realities

Download or read book Working for the Japanese Myths and Realities written by Stephanie Jones and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991-03-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 100 British executives have contributed to this study of what it's really like to work for a Japanese company. Media beliefs about the Japanese in Britain suggest that they are obsessed with long-term planning and concensus decision-making, that all the bosses are Japanese, that all decisions are made in Tokyo, and that uniforms and exercises are compulsory. Dr Jones' findings question these 'myths' arguing that the Japanese have shown a remarkable adaptability to local conditions.

Book Corporate Social Responsibility and Local Community in Asia

Download or read book Corporate Social Responsibility and Local Community in Asia written by Kyoko Fukukawa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-03 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of corporations exercising corporate social responsibility has spread from the West and is now firmly embedded in Asian countries and in Asian corporations. The latest trend in corporate social responsibility, evident also in Asia, is for corporations to apply corporate social responsibility to local communities and to those at the bottom of the social hierarchy. This book explores corporations’ social responsibility engagement with local communities in a range of Asian countries. It provides examples of corporate social responsibility in a wide range of industrial sectors, focuses extensively on "social enterprises" and on governments’ and corporations’ schemes to encourage them, considers how relations with employees and with local workforces fit into the pattern of corporate social responsibility, and discusses the question as to how far corporations engage with local communities as a way of developing new markets for their products.

Book Development in Asia

Download or read book Development in Asia written by Derrick M. Nault and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Development" is one of the most ubiquitous yet least understood concepts of our age. It is something all governments claim to be engaged in and is considered desirable by scholars, activists, policymakers, and laypeople alike. Yet it is also a highly contested term. For some, development is simply a matter of economic growth. Others maintain that it must entail improving life expectancy, literacy, education levels, and access to resources. Others yet, disillusioned by the results of development initiatives, have rejected development altogether, equating it with a self-serving aid industry that entraps the poor in a vicious cycle of dependency. Still, critics argue these "post-development" theorists merely replicate earlier doctrines of development and have themselves become part of the problem they wish to transcend. This book, a collection of works by scholars of development, examines the theory and practice of development and its implications and varied meanings in Asian contexts. It attempts to understand development both in its objective and constructivist senses. That is, it examines how societies and nations have developed over time and how leaders, experts and governments have attempted to shape these same societies and nations. It also analyzes development in civil society and how non-state actors have conceived, participated in and been affected by the process. Has true development been occurring in Asia? Is it possible to direct development? How are real people affected by development? Should the concept of development be retained or discarded? These are a few key questions covered in this book.

Book Japan s ASEAN Policy

Download or read book Japan s ASEAN Policy written by Sueo Sudo and published by Flipside Digital Content Company Inc.. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central puzzle in the study of Japanese foreign policy has been why Japan has continued to play a passive role in international affairs, despite its impressive economic and political power. Challenging this central puzzle, the core argument of this study is to present an alternative path for the study of Japanese foreign policy. In fact, in recent years Japanese foreign policy has become less dependent on the United States, more strategic towards Asia, and more energetic towards international and regional institutions. One of the main features is multilateralism in Japanese foreign policy, as shown by Japan's active participation in the regional institutions. In pursuing multilateralism, Japan cooperated closely with the only durable regional body in Southeast Asia, to wit, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Given the fact that East Asian regionalism has been driven by ASEAN, it is of utmost urgency to investigate the emerging partnership between Japan and ASEAN. The central thesis of this study is thus to put Japan's ASEAN policy into a proper perspective by asserting that Japan's new policy initiatives towards ASEAN are not reactive, nor are they exceptions in a broader framework of merely reactive foreign policy.
