Book Prehistory of the Far West

Download or read book Prehistory of the Far West written by Luther S. Cressman and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From forward: "Luther S. Cressman's Prehistory of the Far West is the first book length synthesis of the prehistory of far-western North America. It is at the same time a scientific reminiscence exemplifying the period of its author's active life in the field when the archaeological approaches and interpretations of today were being shaped. The synthesis incorporates the multi-disciplinary approach in which Professor Cressman was a pioneer and the warm humanistic bent for which he is especially known among his students and colleagues... Professor Cressman was also one of the first archaeologists in the West to reckon with the effects of postglacial enfironmental change on the human occupants of the region."

Book Stone Age Spear and Arrow Points of California and the Great Basin

This book was released on 2002-05-23 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noel Justice adds another regional guide to his series of important reference works that survey, describe, and categorize the projectile point and cutting tools used in prehistory by Native American peoples. This volume addresses the region of California and the Great Basin. Written for archaeologists and amateur collectors alike, the book describes over 50 types of stone arrowhead and spear points according to period, culture, and region. With the knowledge of someone trained to fashion projectile points with techniques used by the Indians, Justice describes how the points were made, used, and re-sharpened. His detailed drawings illustrate the way the Indians shaped their tools, what styles were peculiar to which regions, and how the various types can best be identified. There are hundreds of drawings, organized by type cluster and other identifying characteristics. The book also includes distribution maps and color plates that will further aid the researcher or collector in identifying specific periods, cultures, and projectile types.

Book Atlas of Western Prehistory

Download or read book Atlas of Western Prehistory written by Benjamin Wilson and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Western North America is home hundreds of native cultures and languages. Though often overlooked or clumped together, each of these cultures has a story and an origin. Atlas of Western Prehistory walks through 16,000 years of human habitation in North America, based on the latest insights from linguistics, archaeology, and genetics, along with oral traditions. Recent genetic studies have confirmed and debunked many of the theories developed by linguistics and archaeologist decades ago. Genetics has isolated six different migrations into North Americas whose descendants are still found spread through modern Native American communities. Over the millennia, different groups developed strategies that allowed them to expand across the continent. Other groups migrated long distances to escape changing climate or encroaching neighbors. All these movements left clues in the archaeology and were encoded in native languages."--
