Book excerpt: Wellness Orgasms are just like the real thing, only better. Join Ardell and Donovan as these established champions of healthy lifestyles promote their idea that life should be filled with the Wellness Orgasms of reason, exuberance, athleticism and liberty rather than the dysfunctional, dangerous and destructive miseries associated with faith, dogma and irrationality. Enjoy the ride as Ardell and Donovan explore why REAL wellness goes way beyond disease prevention to a state where happiness, joy and love are secured by embracing nature, science, personal responsibility, exceptional mind and body fitness and freedom. Consider their idea that a fun way to live well and die healthy is to create a life rich in experiences and in harmony with others, while joyfully accepting there are no gods, heaven or hell and that life is meaningless and preposterously brief. Orgasms, wellness orgasms, that is, have never sounded so wholesome, so appealing or so practical.

Book Sensing Health

  • Publisher : University of Michigan Press
  • Release : 2024-02-28

Download or read book Sensing Health written by Mikki Kressbach and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2024-02-28 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the age of Apple Watches and Fitbits, the concept of “health” emerges through an embodied experience of a digital health device or platform, not simply through the biomedical data it provides. Sensing Health: Bodies, Data, and Digital Health Technologies analyzes popular digital health technologies as aesthetic experiences to understand how these devices and platforms have impacted the way individuals perceive their bodies, behaviors, health, and well-being. By tracing design alongside embodied experiences of digital health, Kressbach shows how these technologies aim to quantify, track and regulate the body, while at the same time producing moments that bring the body’s affordances and relationship to the fore. This mediated experience of “health” may offer an alternative to biomedical definitions that define health against illness. To capture and analyze digital health experiences, Kressbach develops a method that combines descriptive practices from Film and Media Studies and Phenomenology. After examining the design and feedback structures of digital health platforms and devices, the author uses her own first-person accounts to analyze the impact of the technology on her body, behaviors, and perception of health. Across five chapters focused on different categories of digital health—menstrual trackers, sexual wellness technologies, fitness trackers, meditation and breathing technologies, and posture and running wearables—Sensing Health demonstrates a method of analysis that acknowledges and critiques the biomedical structures of digital health technology while remaining attentive to the lived experiences of users. Through a focus on the intersection of technological design and experience, this method can be used by researchers, scholars, designers, and developers alike.

Book Sex Social Justice and Intimacy in Mental Health Practice

Download or read book Sex Social Justice and Intimacy in Mental Health Practice written by Erin Martinez-Gilliard and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-21 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to equip mental health professionals to integrate discussions of sexual identity, health, wellness, and intimacy into the scope of their client’s mental health, ensuring they are well-prepared to incorporate sexual functioning into core assessment, interventions, and treatment. We exist in societies that are scared to discuss sexual health, identity, and relationships, and the stigma surrounding these topics saturates our mental health professions. Sex, intimacy, and sexual identity have historically been relegated as “specialized” topics when training new clinicians, which has led to professionals feeling unable and unskilled to speak about a core part of their client’s psychological, biological, physical, and relational health. Viewing this as a social justice issue, this book addresses a movement in the counseling field to incorporate sexual health into therapy as well as providing new ways of foundational teaching. Chapters begin exploring the history of sex therapy and the problems that have previously been addressed as concerns for the sex therapy field only, before discussing issues surrounding transference and countertransference. Encouraging self-reflection regarding values, bias, and attitudes related to topics of sexuality, the book moves to discussing strategies and integrative approaches to co-occurring conditions, such as trauma, diagnosis of sexual difficulties, stigma and societal messages, biopsychosocial treatment, networking, and coordination of care and spiritual health and healing. Including journaling exercises, assessment tools and case studies of how to weave approaches addressing sexual concerns into practice, this book will provide graduate courses and continuing education instructors with the core material to assist the training and development of future and established professionals.

  • Pages : 317 pages

Download or read book The Equal Curriculum written by James R. Lehman and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-01 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first-of-its-kind textbook marks a revolutionary effort to reform medical education nationally by providing a comprehensive, high-quality resource to serve as a foundation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) health education across multiple disciplines. Addressing the decades-long unequal weight of medical education generally offered about the care of LGBTQ people, The Equal Curriculum was created to advance clinicians' competencies in optimizing the health of LGBTQ people. This textbook is designed to be integrated into health sciences curricula and offers pointed strategies to evaluate the integration of LGBTQ health topics. Starting with a brief overview, chapters 1 through 4 cover general content that is highly relevant to all health professionals working with LGBTQ people. Chapters 5 through 12 focus on specific patient populations and clinical specialties, and chapters 13 and 14 cover special topics. Key points in each chapter are highlighted to aid in the comprehension, and case vignettes are provided throughout the textbook, allowing learners to apply the content to clinical scenarios in order to evaluate how the application of relevant knowledge may impact health outcomes. Questions similar to National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) style are provided in most chapters to assist in the application of content. As major addition to the clinical literature, The Equal Curriculum: Student and Educator Guide to LGBTQ Health should be of great interest to health sciences instructors, medical students in their preclinical and clinical phases, and trainees from other disciplines, such as physician assistants, nurses, social workers, and public health professionals.
