Book Son of a Preacher Man

Download or read book Son of a Preacher Man written by Jay Bakker and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2001-12-24 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Son of a Preacher Man Jay Bakker, son of famous televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, tells the compelling story of growing up in the glaring lights of a television studio. It's all here: the Bakker family's public disgrace, the fall of the PTL (Praise The Lord) media empire, and Bakker's subsequent plunge into a morass of anxiety and selfdestruction. But Son of a Preacher Man is more than a tell-all -- it is a story that dramatizes the human toll of this tragedy on the Bakker family, with insight into the seismic shifts that nearly destroyed his father and wrecked his parents' longtime marriage. It is the story of a prodigal son's return to the true meaning of God's love and acceptance. It is the story of a boy who was lost, but on the journey back from ruin finds a better way to understand and live life. It is the story of discovering God's grace and of becoming a man. Despite years of disillusionment, alcoholism, and heartbreak, Bakker managed to continue on his spiritual quest. First he worked to redeem his father...then his faith. Bakker began his service with Revolution, a ministry for skateboarders, punk rockers, and hippiesthe street kids he knew best. He shared the message that saved his life -- the message of Jesus that God's love is infinitely generous. Now Bakker has a large and growing ministry among the tattooed and pierced of downtown Atlanta who feel rejected by the traditional Church yet flock to hear his message of grace and love. Ultimately, Son of a Preacher Man is a story about resurrection -- of one lost young man, of his disgraced and imprisoned father, and of the hope that can't be destroyed by the machinations of power-hungry preachers, The long, lonely road that Bakker traveled taught him that you can't earn or make yourself worthy of the love of God, but if you are willing to let go and open up, that infinite love is waiting to welcome you home with open arms.

Billy Ray Matthias is the handsome younger son of the church’s new pastor. Benny is the daughter of an oil rich family. Billy Ray is convinced that Benny is the woman God would have him settle down with. Benny, on the other hand, recently had her heart broken. She is not the least bit interested in getting involved anytime soon. As Billy’s pursuit of Benny intensifies, so does the political and social climate in the prosperous African American neighborhood known as the Greenwood District.. Racial tensions in Tulsa escalate when Dick Rowland, a black man, is accused by a local newspaper of raping Sarah Page, a white woman, on an elevator. Benny's brother Ethan and a radical white attorney by the name of Maynard Vaughn despite continuous threats put their weight and energy behind helping Dick. Meanwhile, the White Glove Society, a racist group seeks to destroy not only Dick but all the African Americans in this successful black owned community. As tensions come to a head and violence breaks out, Billy and Benny are caught up in the heat of chaos. He vows to keep her safe but will Benny let him? And will faith in God be enough to sustain the people of the community as their lives are being changed forever by deadly acts of hatred?

Book Don t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table

Download or read book Don t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table written by Louie Giglio and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Louie Giglio helps you find encouragement, hope, and strength in the midst of any valley as you reject the enemy voices of fear, rage, lust, insecurity, anxiety, despair, temptation, or defeat. Scripture is clear: the Enemy is a liar who will stop at nothing to tempt you into poor decisions and self-defeating mindsets, making you feel afraid, angry, anxious, or defeated. It is all too easy for Satan to weasel his way into a seat at the table intended for only you and your King. But you can fight back. Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table outlines the ways to overcome those lies so you can find peace and security in any challenging circumstance or situation. With the same bold, exciting approach to Scripture as employed in Goliath Must Fall and his other previous works, pastor Louie Giglio examines Psalm 23 in fresh ways, highlighting verse 5: "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies." You can find freedom from insecurity, temptation, and defeat--if you allow Jesus, the Shepherd, to lead the battle for your mind and heart. This spiritual warfare book for those who are leery of spiritual warfare books will resonate with Louie's core Passion tribe as well as with Christians of all ages who want to live a triumphant life in God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A person who is a preacher is a person people look up to because that person represents God. The story that you are about to read is about Reverend Solomon Jack, his wife Romania, and their three sons Peter, Johnny, and David. I tagged them the miserable, the humble, and the terrible. Peter the miserable because he never listened to his parents. They always had to bail him out of trouble. The day he left to join the army, his parents were so happy because he was a bad influence on Johnny. David the humble because he was the youngest, but he never gave his parents any trouble. He was the youngest, but he never gave his parents any problems. It seemed like they did not pay much attention to him. But being the youngest, everyone loved him. Johnny I call the terrible because he gave his parents the most trouble. But in spite of his bad habits, his mother loved him to death. He could do no wrong in her eyes, not only to his mother but also to everyone who loved Johnny. He was just that type of person. He caused his father to lose his church and he caused his mother's death. What is so amazing is that Jesus died to save us from our sins, but it took Romania's death for Johnny to give his heart to Christ. Romania was a praying woman. She prayed for her sons' night and day. I know that she will be happy when her sons join her in heaven.

Book Preacherman s Son Gunfighter John Wesley Hardin

Download or read book Preacherman s Son Gunfighter John Wesley Hardin written by Jack White and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Wesley Hardin was the son of a Methodist minister who named his second boy after the founder of his church. The Reverend wanted Wes to become a man of faith; along the way the Preacherman's son drifted. By the time Wes was 15 he shot and killed 4 men. These deaths were the gateway to a killing spree that lasted ten years. Not a serial killer the majority of Hardin's shootings were carried out in the old west tradition; the man with the fastest draw wins. By the time Hardin was 25 he had killed 42 men. Wes' life story reads like an old fashioned, page turning murder mystery. The action takes place immediately after the Civil War during the Reconstruction period. He was the most wanted man in the state; Texas Rangers, local Sheriffs, Union Soldiers and numerous bounty hunters frantically looked for John Wesley Hardin. If you enjoy a thriller Preacherman's Son will not disappoint. My heartfelt wish is you will enjoy reading my historical novel as much as I did penning the words.

Book excerpt: The one kid that bothers you likes you. Jared AREN WINTERROTH! Just his name made my blood boil. I’d seethed at the sight of him, knowing he was an entitled brat with a silver spoon in his mouth, with more money than God… And untouched. Aren Jared and I have been rivals for years. He always tried to out class me in everything but failed at every turn. In my mind, we were too old to continue fighting, but since the jackass wanted to carry on this BS, I’d let him.
