Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A young man was born and raised in the turbulent times of the 1960s Civil Rights Era. Raised by a mother who was a die-hard regregationist, and who was an avid member of the Ku Klux Klan. The boys father finally abandoned his family, After he had been attacked by the klan, and beaten within an inch of his life. Frustrated by his wifes bigoted attitude, and her insistence in her effort to try turning their son into a bigot. The boys father solved his situation by joining the Army and going off to the Korean War, and sending his wife checks to help her and the boy survive during the time he would be away. Once the boy was in his late teens, he felt like his mother was smothering his efforts to think for himself. So he joined the Marines, and with his being indoctrinated with thoughts and ideas taught to him by both his mother and the Klan, he now studied in depth, the blacks he saw. He was mixed in his feelings about black people, but, he had a very limited contact with other people of color. This was a way to find out for himself, whether his mother and the klan were right about the things they were trying to teach him. When he entered the Marines, and after basic training, he was shipped out to Tan Sunut Air Base in Vietnam. He was housed in a barracks where he found a situation that he couldnt control. A situation where he was housed with young men of all races. How he copes with what hes discovered as a member of the Marine Corps, is what this story is all about. How he is transformed from a full blown biget whos younger life was completely dominated by the teachings of his mother, and the not too subtle ways of the K K K. Into a young man, who through the oral as well as the physical teachings of the corp, was turned into a true Marine. But! this is not story about Viet Nam it is the story of how hes truly transformed after he returns from Viet Nam. But! You, the reader, will have to come to your own conclusions about this story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this poignant, evocative novel, bestselling author Holly Chamberlin sweeps you into the picturesque town of Ogunquit, Maine, where a family in flux explores their ties to a beautiful beach house, and to each other. Some houses have a personality of their own. Larchmere is that kind of place--a splendid, sprawling home with breathtaking views that open to briny Atlantic air and seabirds' calls. It's the place where Tilda McQueen O'Connell grew up and now vacations each year, and where she and her three siblings--Adam, Hannah, and Craig--have gathered to commemorate the tenth anniversary of their mother's passing. But instead of the bittersweet but relaxing reunion Tilda expected, she finds chaos. Her father's plan to marry a younger woman has thrown the fate of the beach house into uncertainty. For Tilda, the stakes seem the highest. Alone and vulnerable two years after her husband's death, she sees Larchmere as not just a cherished part of her history, but her eventual refuge from the world. Faced with losing that legacy, Tilda must embrace an unknown future. And all the McQueens must reconcile their shared, sometimes painful past--and learn how to love one another even when it means forging a life apart. . . "A dramatic and moving portrait of several generations of a family and each person's place within it." --Booklist "An enjoyable summer read, but it's more. It is a novel for all seasons that adds to the enduring excitement of Ogunquit." –The Maine Sunday Telegram

Book Welcome to Britain Fixing Our Broken Immigration System

Download or read book Welcome to Britain Fixing Our Broken Immigration System written by Colin Yeo and published by Biteback Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-17 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A must-read" – Maya Goodfellow "Highly readable" – Joshua Rozenberg QC "Brilliant and urgently necessary" – Amelia Gentleman "Incisive and compelling" – The Secret Barrister *** How would we treat Paddington Bear if he came to the UK today? Perhaps he would be a casualty of extortionate visa application fees; perhaps he would experience a cruel term of imprisonment in a detention centre; or perhaps his entire identity would be torn apart at the hands of a hostile environment that delights in the humiliation of its victims. Britain thinks of itself as a welcoming country, but the reality is very different. This is a system in which people born in Britain are told in uncompromising terms that they are not British, in which those who have lived their entire lives on these shores are threatened with deportation, and in which falling in love with anyone other than a British national can result in families being ripped apart. Now fully updated to include the Nationality and Borders Bill, in this vital and alarming book, campaigner and immigration barrister Colin Yeo tackles the subject with dexterity and rigour, offering a roadmap of where we should go from here as he exposes the injustice of an immigration system that is unforgiving, unfeeling and, ultimately, failing.
