Book Contact Loading and Local Effects in Thin walled Plated and Shell Structures

Download or read book Contact Loading and Local Effects in Thin walled Plated and Shell Structures written by Vlastimil Krupka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work summarizes theoretical and experimental investigations of real loading conditions of thin-walled plated and shell structures under loads concentrated on parts of their surface. There are presented more accurate and improved models of strain or stress distribution under patch loads considering geometrical and material nonlinearity in connection with stability problems and fatigue damage of studied structural types. The results of these investigations are of particular importance in the design and safety verification of many engineering structures, e.g. plate girders subjected to partial edge loading, closures of fuel tanks, footings and sadles of pressure vessels, reservoirs and pipelines.

Book The Effect of Flange Restraint on Web Crippling Strength

Download or read book The Effect of Flange Restraint on Web Crippling Strength written by Bhavnesh H. Bhakta and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Experimental studies were performed to investigate the possible increase in the web crippling strength of cold-formed steel members when the flanges of the members were fastened to supports as opposed to member's flanges unfastened to supports. In this study channels, I-Sections, Z-Sections, long span roof decks (hat sections) and floor decks were investigated under two types of loading conditions, End-one-flange loading (EOF) and Interior-one-flange loading (IOF). The primary emphasis of this investigation was to determine if the current design criteria provided by the 1986 AISI Specification was underestimating the web crippling strength of these members, since the equations do not distinguish between fastened flanges and unfastened flanges. A review of past research concerning web-crippling strength of cold-formed steel members was performed and is discussed. The current design criteria of the 1986 AISI Specification and the 1986 Automotive Steel Design Manual regarding web crippling strength of cold-formed steel members is also discussed. Due to the fact that this was a pilot study, the number of tests performed for each type of member were limited. Therefore, there were no new equations developed, but based on the results some recommendations are made for future study"--Abstract, leaf iii.

Book Structural Behavior of Cold formed Steel Beam Webs Subjected to Partial Edge Loading

Download or read book Structural Behavior of Cold formed Steel Beam Webs Subjected to Partial Edge Loading written by Shin-Hua Lin and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An extensive experimental investigation has been conducted to study the load-carrying capacity of cold-formed steel web elements subjected to partial edge loading which may cause web crippling or web buckling. In this experimental work emphasis was concentrated on the cold-formed steel structural members having single unreinforced webs with stiffened flanges. In 1980, American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) revised its "Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members" For the design of beam webs, Section 3.5.1 of the AISI Specification provides the design criteria for web crippling. This thesis discusses the experimental work including some specimens with small length-to-depth ratios which may cause web buckling rather than web crippling. The failure mode for these specimens is beyond the scope of the current AISI Specification. Based on the results of tests conducted in this study, new design expressions have been developed to determine the critical web buckling load. Recommended design criteria are proposed for cold-formed steel structural members having single unreinforced webs with stiffened flanges"--Abstract, leaf ii.
