Book Web Crippling of High Strength Cold formed Steel Beams

Download or read book Web Crippling of High Strength Cold formed Steel Beams written by Chiravut Santaputra and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The structural behavior of high strength cold-formed steel beams subjected primarily to web crippling was investigated analytically and experimentally. In this study hat sections and I-beams, formed from five different types of high strength sheet steels commonly used in the automobile industry, were investigated under various loading conditions. The yield strengths of these sheet steels vary from 58 to 165 ksi. In addition to the test data gathered in this phase of study, the experimental results obtained from the beam tests conducted at Inland Steel Company and Ford Motor Company were carefully evaluated. The evaluation indicated that the present available design criteria are not suitable for high strength materials with yield strengths exceeding 80 ksi. Following the analytical and experimental studies, new design formulas were derived for different types of loading conditions on the basis of available test data with material yield strengths ranging from 30 to 165 ksi. These empirical equations distinguish between web crippling failure caused by overstressing (bearing failure) and web buckling. Interaction formulas were derived for sections with single unreinforced webs and I-beams under combined web crippling and bending moment. Additional tests were also performed for the transition ranges between the basic loading conditions. These test data were used to verify the newly proposed design equations which can eliminate the problem of discontinuity between different basic loading conditions "--Abstract, leaf ii.

Book Web Crippling Strength and a Combination of Bending and Web Crippling of Cold formed Steel Beams

Download or read book Web Crippling Strength and a Combination of Bending and Web Crippling of Cold formed Steel Beams written by Nipon Hetrakul and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The web crippling strength of cold-formed steel beams was investigated experimentally. In this investigation, due consideration was given to the possible influence of bending moment and shear force on the web-crippling loads. For the subject of web crippling strength, the study involved the testing of 140 built-up beams having single unreinforced webs and 152 I-beams having double webs. In addition, 66 beam tests were conducted for the case of combined bending moment, shear and web crippling. The experimental results obtained from the beam tests conducted at the University of Missouri-Rolla and the early tests performed previously at Cornell University were carefully evaluated for various loading conditions. Consequently, design formulas were derived on the basis of the available test data by using a regression analysis. These equations can be used to predict the web crippling loads of cold-formed steel beams when they are subjected to concentrated loads and/or reactions. The interaction formulas derived from this study reflect the influence of bending moment on the web strength against crippling"--Abstract, leaf iii.

Book Structural Failure and Plasticity

Download or read book Structural Failure and Plasticity written by X.L. Zhao and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-10-04 with total page 913 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As mankind continues to push back the boundaries and begins to explore other worlds and the ocean depths, a thorough understanding of how structures behave when subjected to extremes in temperature, pressure, and high loading rates will be essential. This symposium provided the perfect forum for presenting research into structures subjected to such extreme loads. There were a large number of papers presented under topics of impact, blast and shock loading, indicating a strong research interest in high rates of loading. Similarly new topics have been added to the traditional symposium list such as fire loading, earthquake loading, and fatigue and connection failures. It is clear now that fundamental knowledge of plastic deformation of structures to various extreme loads is coming of age. Each full paper was peer reviewed by at least two experts in the field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cold formed structural members are being used more widely in routine structural design as the world steel industry moves from the production of hot-rolled section and plate to coil and strip, often with galvanised and/or painted coatings. Steel in this form is more easily delivered from the steel mill to the manufacturing plant where it is usually cold-rolled into open and closed section members. This book not only summarises the research performed to date on cold form tubluar members and connections but also compares design rules in various standards and provides practical design examples.
