Book excerpt: Beauty and the tormented beast Ford Winter, the oldest and according to his siblings, ugliest, is a man with carefully hidden secrets. Outwardly relaxed, laid-back, and happy with life on his family’s ranch, Ford takes comfort in the daily rhythms of his life. Under the surface, however, he is battling with the demons of something he will never share with anyone. Business takes him from his hometown, and when he finds a desperate woman standing outside his hotel room, clearly in pain, he does what he does best. Steps in to help her. What he doesn’t realize is that life as he knows it, from that moment is about to change forever after their encounter. Autumn Harris, the sweet new teacher in town and the woman he rescued, is a single mother and way too nice for the likes of him. He doesn’t want nice and sweet, or a relationship, because at night, when the door to his room is closed, often Ford’s life changes for the worse. Plagued with nightmares from an event that changed his life, he never wants anyone to see his demons. Especially not Autumn. Can their demons be tamed? Autumn desperately needs a life change, both for herself and her son, Ritchie. So when she reads about a teaching position in Ryker Falls, Colorado, she jumps at the chance. Finally she can escape the man who once held her heart. A man who thinks he can still be part of their lives, despite Autumn’s protests. The Ryker Falls community welcomes her and Ritchie, wrapping them in a secure blanket of love and support. After the hell that she’s come from, it’s like the best kind of dream come true. Right up until the day she walks into Ford Winter again. He’s the man who tenderly looked after her, the man who showed her such gentle kindness when she’d no one else to turn to. The tall, imposing rancher with the easy smile but shadowed eyes. Autumn senses something is off with Ford. Something dark is plaguing him, his unspoken demons obvious in his manner and rejection. Autumn is both scared yet drawn to an inward struggle she well recognizes, but she also knows her heart can never be truly his. Not when she has so much at stake. Can Ford and Autumn heal each other, or will the past that comes calling stop them from finding a future together? Book excerpt: This volume builds on previous notions of transmedia practices to develop the concept of transtexts, in order to account for both the industrial and user-generated contributions to the cross-media expansion of a story universe. On the one hand exists industrial transmedia texts, produced by supposedly authoritative authors or entities and directed to active audiences in the aim of fostering engagement. On the other hand are fan-produced transmedia texts, primarily intended for fellow members of the fan communities, with the Internet allowing for connections and collaboration between fans. Through both case studies and more general analyses of audience participation and reception, employing the artistic, marketing, textual, industrial, cultural, social, geographical, technological, historical, financial and legal perspectives, this multidisciplinary collection aims to expand our understanding of both transmedia storytelling and fan-produced transmedia texts.

Book Love Found Love Lost

Download or read book Love Found Love Lost written by Esther Jane Berman and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-01-10 with total page 892 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fun and helpful book is one's girl's autobiography. She grew with many of life's experiences meeting all kinds of people from all walks of life. Learn how to keep the love of friendship strong and well in spite of the odds. Learn how to experience nature and reap its benfits. Learn the nature of true love. The main reason we lose love is because it was not true love to begin with. Then there are people who come into our lives to give us temporary help. They serve a good pupose, but these relationships usually fade when the help is no longer needed. Her first husband claimed to love her, but he did not show it. He was seldom home. The heroine shows how to get what you want when you want something so badly. She reaches her goals against all odds. Nothing stops her from getting an education. Her love for the French language came to her quite by chance. She seized the opportunity to learn French and fell in love with it. The heroine's son also learned how to cope with life's problems. Like his mother, he beat the bullies without lifting a finger. He has the gift of gab. His mother has the gift of writing. He can talk to anyone anytime about anything. His mother will write down every happening. She is also his confindant and ally against a sometimes cruel world. He is an only child, but he is not spoiled. As you will see, he is quite an actor. You will laugh through the book. At times, you may cry, but not for long. The book is up beat with a little drama as lfe unfolds. So hold onto your seat for the ride of your life.

Download or read book Feenin written by Alexander Ghedi Weheliye and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2023-09-29 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Feenin, Alexander Ghedi Weheliye traces R&B music’s continuing centrality in Black life since the late 1970s. Focusing on various musical production and reproduction technologies such as auto-tune and the materiality of the BlackFem singing voice, Weheliye counteracts the widespread popular and scholarly narratives of the genre’s decline and death. He shows how R&B remains a thriving venue for the expression of Black thought and life and a primary archive of the contemporary moment. Among other topics, Weheliye discusses the postdisco evolution of house music in Chicago and techno in Detroit, Prince and David Bowie in relation to appropriations of Blackness and Euro-whiteness in the 1980s, how the BlackFem voice functions as a repository of Black knowledge, the methods contemporary R&B musicians use to bring attention to Black Lives Matter, and the ways vocal distortion technologies such as the vocoder demonstrate Black music’s relevance to discussions of humanism and posthumanism. Ultimately, Feenin represents Weheliye’s capacious thinking about R&B as the site through which to consider questions of Blackness, technology, history, humanity, community, diaspora, and nationhood.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An effective new songwriting vocabulary supported by ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. The Elements Of Song Craft does for songwriters what William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White’s The Elements Of Style did for English language students and writers alike; gives an all-in-one definitive manifesto for contemporary songwriters in every genre to organize, understand, and practice the rules, principles, definitions, forms, and song craft needed to create good songs, songs of undeniable creative power and beauty, songs that last. The Elements of Song Craft beelines directly to the most important aspect of writing good songs—identifying the key emotion living at the heart of the song—then offers a step-by-step process to harnessing that singular emotional power. Additionally, a dozen other strategies, formulas, perspectives, and exercises are offered in the book. The Elements of Song Craft introduces, for the first time to a general songwriting audience, an effective new songwriting vocabulary utilized by songwriters taught in the SONG ARTS ACADEMY method and supported by ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, the world’s leading Performance Rights Organizations at the heart of the songwriting business, as well as at NYU Steinhardt’s and The New School’s songwriting programs, for over sixteen years. Thousands of song arts participants, including hit songwriters and The Voice and American Idol contestants, have been trained in this method.
