At the mercy of the facility’s cruel director, Rill fights to keep her sisters and brother together in a world of danger and uncertainty. Aiken, South Carolina, present day. Born into wealth and privilege, Avery Stafford seems to have it all: a successful career as a federal prosecutor, a handsome fiancé, and a lavish wedding on the horizon. But when Avery returns home to help her father weather a health crisis, a chance encounter leaves her with uncomfortable questions and compels her to take a journey through her family’s long-hidden history, on a path that will ultimately lead either to devastation or to redemption. Based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandals—in which Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country—Lisa Wingate’s riveting, wrenching, and ultimately uplifting tale reminds us how, even though the paths we take can lead to many places, the heart never forgets where we belong. Download or read book Merritt Magic written by Melinda Merritt and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the world we lived in which was one of dreams, spirituality, magic, and love. I arrived just at the end of the Pisces Age in 1950, and I could feel the energies changing early in my life. The Sages had spoken to the families about the coming cultural change which would take the world by storm. We had no idea what they meant, but we knew it would happen. I was just going about my life learning all the ancient African knowledge and wisdom my family taught. After all, this is the spirituality and ancestral knowledge which freed the slaves from bondage. We were a very blessed family in that there was never any lack, just a life of abundance. The Sages controlled what happened in this world and no one ever questioned them. Our world was filled with happiness, excitement, and surprise. Then, as though my world was not already filled with many unusual things, in the early 1960's, it happened. The change of which the Sages had been speaking, started to happen. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement came to our little town of Americus, GA. This was the very beginning of what turned out to be the biggest event, ever. My father was a successful independent business leader and he and Rev. King (as Dr. King was known at that time) bonded immediately. This meant that our entire family was heavily involved in the "Movement". Dr. King was frequently at our home and became a part of the family for many years. Everything changed for me and the family when this Movement came but the Sages managed to keep control over our daily lives. These were some powerful Black women whom no one dared cross. The energy which drove the Movement was constantly pointed out to me by the Sages. I became an expert on the human energy phenomenon. The world was completely magical and it seemed to have come to our small town. The people we met were from all over the globe. The power of the black people's energy was working full force. Because of what the Sages taught me, I was able to travel through my entire life in control of my "elements". The Sages believed, practiced, and taught that if you can control your elements, you can control your life. This book is about these Black powerful women who had taken their gifts and skills underground, until now.
Download or read book An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good written by Helene Tursten and published by Soho Press. This book was released on 2018-11-06 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maud is an irascible 88-year-old Swedish woman with no family, no friends, and... no qualms about a little murder. This funny, irreverent story collection by Helene Tursten, author of the Irene Huss investigations, features two-never-before translated stories that will keep you laughing all the way to the retirement home. Ever since her darling father's untimely death when she was only eighteen, Maud has lived in the family's spacious apartment in downtown Gothenburg rent-free, thanks to a minor clause in a hastily negotiated contract. That was how Maud learned that good things can come from tragedy. Now in her late eighties, Maud contents herself with traveling the world and surfing the net from the comfort of her father's ancient armchair. It's a solitary existence, and she likes it that way. Over the course of her adventures—or misadventures—this little bold lady will handle a crisis with a local celebrity who has her eyes on Maud's apartment, foil the engagement of her long-ago lover, and dispose of some pesky neighbors. But when the local authorities are called to investigate a dead body found in Maud's apartment, will Maud finally become a suspect?
Download or read book Ghost Warrior written by H. Richard Slichter and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2004-09-28 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book of stories takes us from the most primitive of villages, in the deepest parts of the Colombian Jungles, to Miami, Fl. where battles between good and evil are waged. The Ghost Warrior puts you into the mind of a CIA sniper who is charged with the assassinations of the most evil of the world’s villains. How could this untrusting, trained killer live in a world of death and destruction and still enter into the boundaries of emotion and tenderness, quite comfortably, without renouncing his chosen career? Perhaps some answers are found in his relationship with his adored Angelita. When a person saves you from certain death, does he or she become your Guardian Angel? This is a novel of good versus evil and how one man who never believed he would allow himself to enter into a close personal relationship, did just that. The book contains seven stories which follow a sequence of events. It begins with Raul Lightfoot’s unsuccessful attempt to parachute into a jungle where a vicious drug lord has hidden. He faces a situation of imminent death, which soon becomes a very unexpected rescue by a woman who comes to be regarded by this trained assassin as his very own ‘guardian angel’. The book moves quickly through life and death situations on the battlefields of the jungles to the streets of Miami. This trained killer not only brings violence and death with his presence, but also brings an emotional closeness to a special woman, that only gets stronger as the stories progress. This, coupled with an unexpected sense of humor, makes for fast-paced and action-packed reading.
Download or read book Liquid Gold written by Rustyna Lynne and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financial crisis, possible divorce, murdered parents, state water loss, ranchers moving East, a near death experience, running from the law, and more murders make this action packed life of Pris Trace an almost complete disaster. Here's what readers are saying about Liquid Gold (LG): "I gave up reading mysteries always the same mundane scenarios...I was asked to do a read for Rustyna. I found myself involved! If Rustyna decided to write a sequel to this mystery and or a different mystery I will read those novels as well. Also all her other novels she may write." - Mary "Usually I put down a mystery, not necessarily wanting to return to the book right away. I foresee the plot before the third chapter. Guess what ... I never put it down ... stayed up all night reading this novel; an excellent change in mysteries." - Ron "(LG) takes place here in the Verde Valley, Arizona where I live and it's quite factual. Also for the first time ever, an author made me curious enough to do my own research to find the problems ever changing, up to date! We need to think differently and make changes." -
