Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social media was made to bring us together. But few things have driven us further apart. Sadly, many Christians are fueling online incivility. Others, exhausted by perpetual outrage and shame-filled from constant comparison, are leaving social media altogether. So, how should Christians behave in this digital age? Is there a better way? Daniel Darling believes we need an approach that applies biblical wisdom to our engagement with social media, an approach that neither retreats from modern technology nor ignores the harmful ways in which Christians often engage publicly. In short, he believes that we can and should use our online conversations for good.

Book Studies in the Way of Words

Download or read book Studies in the Way of Words written by Paul Grice and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1991-04-01 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, Paul Grice’s first book, includes the long-delayed publication of his enormously influential 1967 William James Lectures. But there is much, much more in this work. Grice himself has carefully arranged and framed the sequence of essays to emphasize not a certain set of ideas but a habit of mind, a style of philosophizing. Grice has, to be sure, provided philosophy with crucial ideas. His account of speaker-meaning is the standard that others use to define their own minor divergences or future elaborations. His discussion of conversational implicatures has given philosophers an important tool for the investigation of all sorts of problems; it has also laid the foundation for a great deal of work by other philosophers and linguists about presupposition. His metaphysical defense of absolute values is starting to be considered the beginning of a new phase in philosophy. This is a vital book for all who are interested in Anglo-American philosophy.

Book The Way Words Live

Download or read book The Way Words Live written by Sylvia Beveridge and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2022-10-21 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lifetime of poems, short stories and contemplations, Sylvia’s The Way Words Live is a collection that reflects her rich personal history, her many joys and sorrows, and her pithy observations of a life well-lived. Born in Calcutta, India in 1930, Sylvia received much of her education at Auckland House - a boarding school in Shimla, several days by train into the hills and what felt like a million miles away from her family. Upon the death of her father, her mother honored a promise and moved Sylvia and her younger sister, June, to England, a country the girls had never before seen. Sylvia was just sixteen. Four years later, the trio immigrated to New Zealand. She met her husband, John, in Auckland and they were married in 1957. Children Robert, Kim, Helyn and Brian quickly followed. It was while keeping a diary of their young lives that Sylvia discovered the satisfaction to be found in writing, and she began to find her voice. Sylvia still lives in Otorohanga, where she has been an integral part of the local community for over sixty years. This collection includes poetry, family stories, reflections on her childhood, the Church, and her local community. Insightful, contemplative, hopeful and funny, full of gratitude and wide-eyed wonderment, The Way Words Live will delight, inspire and entertain its readers – Sylvia’s family, friends and community.

But in 1956, the federal government uprooted her family and moved them to California, wrenching them from their home, friends, and traditions. Separated from her community and everything she knew, Wilma felt utterly lost until she found refuge in the Indian Center in San Francisco. There, she worked to build and develop the local Native community and championed Native political activists. She took her two children to visit tribal communities in the state, and as she introduced them to the traditions of their heritage, she felt a longing for home. Returning to Oklahoma with her daughters, Wilma took part in Cherokee government. Despite many obstacles, from resistance to female leadership to a life-threatening accident, Wilma's courageous dedication to serving her people led to her election as the first female chief of the Cherokee Nation. As leader and advocate, she reinvigorated her constituency by empowering them to identify and solve community problems. This beautiful addition to the Big Words series will inspire future leaders to persevere in empathy and thoughtful problem-solving, reaching beyond themselves to help those around them. Moving prose by award-winning author Doreen Rappaport is interwoven with Wilma's own words in this expertly researched biography, illustrated with warmth and vivacity by Linda Kukuk.

Book Qualitative Research Analysis Types Tools

Download or read book Qualitative Research Analysis Types Tools written by Renata Tesch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1990. There was a time when most researchers believed that the only phenomena that counted in the social sciences were those that could be measured. To make that perfectly clear, they called any phenomenon they intended to study a 'variable', indicating that the phenomenon could vary in size, length, amount, or any other quantity. Unfortunately, not many phenomena in the human world comes naturally in quantities. If we cannot even give a useful answer to what qualitative analysis is and how it works, then it seems rather incongruent to try and involve a computer, the very essence of precision and orderliness. Isn't qualitative analysis a much too individualistic and flexible an activity to be supported by a computer? Won't a computer do exactly what qualitative researchers want to avoid, namely standardize the process? Won't it mechanize and rigidify qualitative analysis? The answer to these questions is NO, and this book explains why.
