In the early 16005 the spreading metropolis of London turned afield for more water, building a twenty-mile conduit from two great springs in Hertfordshire. The United States saw its first big water quest when the rising city of New York, bursting with a population of launched its forty-mile aqueduct to the Croton watershed in 1832. On its completion ten years later, most New Yorkers agreed with the earlier prophecy of De Witt Clinton: It is not at all probable that the city will ever require more than it can provide. But New York proceeded to ignore his words and perplex her water engineers with an astonishing growth. Her population had passed when drought struck in 1880. The city was separated from thirst by a ten-day water supply in the reservoirs when timely rains forestalled disaster. Having experienced water famine, New York lost little time in reaching out for a new supply. A second aqueduct, tapping the full limit of the Croton watershed, was finished barely in time to save the city from an other desperate drought in 1891. The Big Town's resolute expansion sent water engineers farther afield by the early 19005. A hundred miles north of New York lay an enormous new source in the wooded and sparsely settled Catskill Mountains; in the ten years from 1907 to 1917 the city built a third great aqueduct over the route, more than doubling its Croton supply. While construction was in progress another drought visited New York in 1 91 1, forcing house-to-house checkups on leaky faucets. Only by careful water conservation did its citizens hold off water famine until the completion of their Catskill Aqueduct, which served a population of more than Outpacing all other American cities in size, New York was also pointing the way in the business of seeking water. The protagonist wakes the crew and defends the ship's invasion by huge insects. The protagonist is altered by the bugs, his missing legs are replaced and his immortal body is greatly modified. The protagonist is confronted by a planetary computer which had remained hidden in fear. The MegaComputer relates a history of the races killed on the planet. The computer controls the entire planet and gives a ring of preserved orbiting spaceships to the Seeker crew. The preserved spaceships in orbit are used in two separate fleets of 1440 connected ships, one to resettle the vacant planets of the dead sentients and the second to rescue the population of Earth for resettlement on new planets. The protagonist and all Seekers are cloned to 3500 clones by the computer to man the 2880 spaceships. The protagonist and the computer discovers the computer data representing 32 species of sentient beings and the method of their revival of each of them. The oldest race recorded the physical and mental computer data before a fatal ray killed all sentient life on the planet. The protagonist and the computer awake a percentage of the "dead" sentients for spaceship crews. After a long return flight, the protagonist finds that the glacial Earth is poisoned by radiation and all the few remaining people must be cloned to safely leave Earth. The protagonist has succeeded in the revival of the murdered species and the resettlement of the known Universe and great explorations. The protagonist has rescued the glacial and radioactive Earth. The protagonist has conquered death, distance, time and the future. The book pauses before the following books concerning the details and adventures of particular selected subjects. If you believe that one picture is worth a thousand words, you must also believe that it takes a thousand words to make a picture!

Over time the shepherds became increasingly skilled in caring for the flock. They integrated the responsibility of the well-being of the flock into their identity. In a similar way, we can take the responsibility for human water consumption and our interaction with the natural world. We need to understand and work according to the big picture and the very long term perspective. Being a water steward requires deep reflection of how water should be treated and our relationship with water. Water utility professionals have the knowledge and have been trusted with the role of managing human water consumption. This is a great responsibility and requires deep reflection of how this should be done. The book will present ideas and concepts for the new role as well as questions for personal reflection.
