Book COMMON WASTE SORTING SYMBOLS IN NORDIC COUNTRIES

Download or read book COMMON WASTE SORTING SYMBOLS IN NORDIC COUNTRIES written by Gripwall, Anna-Carin and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2021-10-14 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/nord2021-059/ Until recently, communication on waste sorting and treatment differed from country to country and often from municipality to municipality in the Nordic countries. In 2017, a national pictogram system was launched in Denmark and in 2020 the system was launched in Norway, Sweden and Iceland. The plan is to launch it in Finland in 2022. Through the use of the same waste symbols, citizens can receive the same communication on waste sorting, making it easier for all citizens to sort their waste correctly and thereby contributing to an increase in material recycling. With funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic municipal waste organizations have worked together to implement this system in our countries.

Book PVC waste treatment in the Nordic countries

Download or read book PVC waste treatment in the Nordic countries written by Anna Fråne and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2019-02-18 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the project was to map PVC waste streams in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. The available estimates are made occasionally, mostly within the frames of different projects and are not based on any formalized official reporting system or other rigorous accounting scheme. Overall, a large part of PVC waste ends up in mixed waste fractions and is eventually treated in waste-to-energy plants. Landfilling of PVC waste is banned in two countries, but some exceptions exist. Norway is the only country that treats some PVC waste as hazardous waste. The current waste treatment situation in the four Nordic countries is driven by several factors, such as diverse origins of PVC products, some specifics of the Nordic market, rather low focus on PVC waste in policy strategies or plans, technical issues regarding incineration of PVC waste, and the lack of domestic recycling.

Book Monitoring Food Waste and Loss in the Nordic region Definitions methods and measures for prevention

Download or read book Monitoring Food Waste and Loss in the Nordic region Definitions methods and measures for prevention written by Hanssen, Ole Jørgen and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2021-504/ The background for the project is that EU Commission has introduced new regulations and policies for food waste prevention and monitoring. Sweden and Denmark link their reporting closely to the waste framework directive while Finland and Norway base their most data collection on voluntary reporting. Norway and Finland report on a detailed level and estimate impact like costs and GHG-emissions. All Nordic countries have necessary detail in data that are measured to fulfil the requirements set by the purpose of food waste monitoring program. Halving food waste by 2030 calls for radical changes in the food chain. These radical changes require four dimensions: technology push, societal pull, market pull, and regulatory push. Based on these four dimensions, we have classified measures to reduce food waste into four topics: Policy instruments, changing social norms, nudging and changing practices, and intelligent technology and new products & business models.

Book Marine Littering and Sources in Nordic Waters

Download or read book Marine Littering and Sources in Nordic Waters written by Eva Blidberg and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2015-06-08 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Marine litter is a global environmental problem that endangers wildlife and has great socio-economic and aesthetic impacts. To identify sources of marine litter is an important key in order to propose cost-effective measures. Pick analyses of beach litter have therefore been conducted in order to categorise litter items from a product perspective. The results confirm that plastic are the most common litter material found on beaches in the Nordic countries. Short life items and packaging are dominating, which is strongly linked to individual consumers. It is further concluded that the plastics and packaging industry has an important role to play to decrease the amount of marine litter

Book Reuse recycling and recovery of construction and demolition waste in the Nordic countries

Download or read book Reuse recycling and recovery of construction and demolition waste in the Nordic countries written by Svedmyr, Katarina and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2023-544/ This publication addresses the challenges in managing Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) in the Nordic countries including an outlook on other European countries. Despite a 70% recovery target, the Nordics lag behind due to economic, legislative, and social barriers. The study emphasizes the need for better CDW statistics and highlights successful European initiatives. Key findings include that the barriers do not seem to be technical feasibility, but rather include economic obstacles, and regional variations in recycling. Recommendations include unified approaches, regulations, and stronger incentives for reuse and recycling of CDW. The study advocates waste prevention through reuse and design strategies for future constructions, emphasizing collaboration within the Nordics and the EU.
