Book excerpt: The first English publication of a Christian testimony written by a Korean layperson, Wandering, Testimony, and Faith is a captivating memoir that chronicles the extraordinary journey of a man who found redemption and unwavering faith through an unexpected divine encounter. Born and raised in Seoul, Korea, the author shares his deeply personal story of transformation from a life overshadowed by addiction and despair to one illuminated by the grace and love of God. On Christmas day in 2002, during a seemingly routine church service, the author experienced a profound spiritual awakening while partaking in communion. This moment marked the beginning of a dramatic shift in his life. Vowing to abandon a thirty-year habit of drinking and smoking, he embarked on a quest for spiritual growth and understanding. With heartfelt honesty, the author recounts the struggles and challenges he faced, including the devastating bankruptcy of his business and the subsequent soul-searching at a spiritual retreat center. Through relentless faith, prayer, and a commitment to reading the Bible, he discovered the transformative power of God's love and the miracles that faith can bring. Wandering, Testimony, and Faith is a powerful testament to the boundless mercy of God and the life-changing impact of embracing a life devoted to Him. The author's journey serves as an inspiration for anyone seeking spiritual renewal or grappling with their own life challenges. This book offers readers a profound and moving reminder that no matter how far one has wandered, it is never too late to turn towards the light and find solace in the divine. With its message of hope, encouragement, and the miraculous possibilities of faith, Wandering, Testimony, and Faith is a must-read for anyone on their own spiritual journey.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A spiritual journey may take many forms, from Dante's descent to the pits of Hell and up the other side to the bliss of Paradise, to Pilgrim's progress (or even to Billy Pilgrim, unstuck in time in Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five). It could be Elijah running headlong into the desert, or Jonah being flung ashore and shouting in Nineveh, a petulant prophet to the end. Faith can be carried like pennies in the pocket or worn like a coat of many colors. Abraham and Moses, Mary and Peter--all of them carried their faith, and all of them had their doubts. Doubt is the companion of faith, and the mystery that bonds them together comes out in stories. These are stories of faith, doubt, and mystery. Not all who wander are lost.

Book excerpt: Through every turn of the biblical story, God's people are a wandering people. When they are rescued from slavery in Egypt, God sends them into the desert, where they wander for a generation. Jesus and his disciples wander from town to town. In fact, some of God's most important truths are imparted to people with dusty feet as they travel on the road. With his trademark thoughtful introspection, A. J. Swoboda boldly suggests that wandering is not an absence of faith but a central component of faith. In The Dusty Ones, he leads the restless, the frustrated, and the curious on a spiritual journey to uncover the answers to questions like - Do I wander because I'm failing or because God has left me? - Is the desert something I can overcome? - Why is God sometimes "hidden" in the Bible? - What do I do when the end seems nowhere in sight? This compassionate and contemplative book offers hope and peace to Christians and seekers alike as they make their way down the winding road of faith.

  • Pages : 312 pages

Download or read book Wandering Stars written by Keith Gibson and published by . This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It is a serious thing to claim to speak for God. So serious, in fact, that a prophet who claimed to speak for God and whose words did not come to pass was to be put to death according to the Old Testament. God takes both His Name and His word so seriously that He gave some of the harshest rebukes in all the Old Testament to those who were claiming to bring revelation from Him that He had not sent. One final note. There is always the temptation when dealing with a subject of this nature, to pull out the most outlandish quotes in an attempt to make one's point more forcefully. Though it is certain that some will feel that this is exactly what has been done, I have attempted to resist this temptation. While an extreme example has occasionally been used in order to demonstrate how heretical the movement is at its fringes, for the most part, I have attempted to use quotes from those considered more 'mainstream' within the apostolic and prophetic movement. It is my desire to demonstrate that the issues addressed in this book are rampant within the community and not isolated in one or two marginal teachers. It is my sincere prayer that this book will be used in some small measure to awaken the church to the seriousness of the errors being propagated within the apostolic/prophetic movement and to call the church back to the truth." - Keith Gibson

Book Wandering Begging Monks

  • Publisher : University of California Press
  • Release : 2020-05-12

Download or read book Wandering Begging Monks written by Daniel Folger Caner and published by University of California Press. This book was released on 2020-05-12 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An apostolic lifestyle characterized by total material renunciation, homelessness, and begging was practiced by monks throughout the Roman Empire in the fourth and fifth centuries. Such monks often served as spiritual advisors to urban aristocrats whose patronage gave them considerable authority and independence from episcopal control. This book is the first comprehensive study of this type of Christian poverty and the challenge it posed for episcopal authority and the promotion of monasticism in late antiquity. Focusing on devotional practices, Daniel Caner draws together diverse testimony from Egypt, Syria, Asia Minor, and elsewhere—including the Pseudo-Clementine Letters to Virgins, Augustine's On the Work of Monks, John Chrysostom's homilies, legal codes—to reveal gospel-inspired patterns of ascetic dependency and teaching from the third to the fifth centuries. Throughout, his point of departure is social and cultural history, especially the urban social history of the late Roman empire. He also introduces many charismatic individuals whose struggle to persist against church suppression of their chosen way of imitating Christ was fought with defiant conviction, and the book includes the first annotated English translation of the biography of Alexander Akoimetos (Alexander the Sleepless). Wandering, Begging Monks allows us to understand these fascinating figures of early Christianity in the full context of late Roman society.

Book excerpt: Christians know church is important, but sometimes it doesn't seem worth it. An eclectic assortment of people with differing personalities, political views, and parenting styles can make for awkward interactions and difficult connections. What’s the point of putting in the tough work to build relationships? But the Bible says God’s people ought to be bound together. It uses words like beloved, brothers and sisters, saints, and fellow laborers to describe their mutual relationship in the church. In this book, Megan Hill answers a common question of churchgoers: What’s so great about the church? With rich theology, practical direction, and study questions for group use, Hill encourages and equips both first-time visitors and regular members to delight in being a part of the local church—no matter how messy and ordinary it seems today. It is only when God’s people begin to see one another as the Lord sees them that they will truly find a place to belong.

Download or read book A Testimony Driven Life written by Astra Williams Brantley, PsyD and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-08-11 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Testimony-Driven Life Biblical-Stewardship Living, Discipling Disciplers of Disciplers, in an Adversity-Centered World Our hearts weep with Christ and pray with Him in intercession for the saints for they are not "mission ready." Our hearts are grieved to agony with the Holy Spirit because not every Christian is equipped to "disciple disciplers of disciplers." The testimony of God the Father (Who is Jesus Christ), and the testimony of God the Holy Spirit (Who testifies only of Jesus) are not faithfully reflected in "the word of our testimony." So how do we inspire each and every Christian to learn/submit/commit to sharing their own testimony, at all times, in all places, to encourage other Christians, as well as to cause others to come to Christ? How can we inspire God's people to DO THE TRUTH (John 3:21)? When God does a work in us or through us, then we should give Him the glory, by sharing of our personal testimony. As spiritual beings commissioned to live out a physical existence in an adversity-centered world, God, expects much fruit, that is, for us to do just as Jesus did, go and make steadfast disciples capable of making disciples. This is the WHAT of our obedience. Our HOW is to depend on the Holy Spirit as we learn to live/love/serve like Christ (our biblical-stewardship living). WHY? Starting with our singular purpose, a testimony-driven life, that pleases and glorifies God, we know what will be the result, discipling disciplers of disciplers, but we need to understand that "biblical-stewardship living" is HOW we get it done.
