Book Wall Interference in a Two dimensional Flow Wind Tunnel with Consideration of the Effect of Compressibility

Download or read book Wall Interference in a Two dimensional Flow Wind Tunnel with Consideration of the Effect of Compressibility written by H. Julian Allen and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical tunnel-wall corrections are derived for an airfoil of finite thickness and camber in a two-dimensional-flow wind-tunnel. The theory takes account of the effects of the wake of the airfoil and of the compressibility of the fluid, and is based upon the assumption that the chord of the airfoil is small in comparison with the height of the tunnel. Consideration is given to the phenomenon of choking at high speeds and its relation to tunnel-wall corrections. The theoretical results are compared with the small amount of low-speed experimental data available and the agreement is seen to be satisfactory, even for relatively large values of the chord-height ratio.

Book Wall Interference in Wind Tunnels with Slotted and Porous Boundaries at Subsonic Speeds

Download or read book Wall Interference in Wind Tunnels with Slotted and Porous Boundaries at Subsonic Speeds written by Barrett Stone Baldwin and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linearized compressible-flow analysis is applied to the study of wind-tunnel-wall interference for subsonic flow in either two-dimensional or circular test sections having slotted or porous walls. Expressions are developed for evaluating blockage and lift interference.

Book Two dimensional Wind Tunnel Wall Interference

Download or read book Two dimensional Wind Tunnel Wall Interference written by M. Mokry and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A description and analysis is presented of the more important developments during the past decade in the understanding of the wall interference problem associated with two-dimensional wind tunnel testing at subsonic and transonic speeds. Discussed are: wall boundary conditions; asymptotic analysis of wall interference; classical and extended wall interference theories; wall interference corrections from boundary measurements; integral equation formulation of subcritical wall interference; and effects of side wall boundary layer on two-dimensional tests. Unsteady wall interference at subsonic flow conditions is reviewed. Recent advances in the adaptive wall technique, which actively reduces or eliminates wall interference, are also described. Book Considerations on the Effect of Wind tunnel Walls on Oscillating Air Forces for Two dimensional Subsonic Compressible Flow

Download or read book Considerations on the Effect of Wind tunnel Walls on Oscillating Air Forces for Two dimensional Subsonic Compressible Flow written by Harry L. Runyan and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper treats the effect of wind-tunnel walls on the oscillating two-dimensional air forces in a compressible medium. The walls are simulated by the usual method of placing impages at appropriate distances above and below the wing. An important result shown is that, for certain conditions of wing frequency, tunnel height, and Mach number, the tunnel and wing may form a resonant system so that the forces on the wing are greatly changed from the condition of no tunnel walls.

Book Boundary induced Downwash Due to Lift in a Two dimensional Slotted Wind Tunnel

Download or read book Boundary induced Downwash Due to Lift in a Two dimensional Slotted Wind Tunnel written by S. Katzoff and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A solution has been obtained for the complete tunnel-interference flow for a lifting vortex in a two-dimensional slotted tunnel. Curves are presented for the longitudinal distribution of tunnel-induced down-wash angle for various values of the boundary openness parameter and for various heights of the vortex above the tunnel center line. Some quantitative discussion is given of the use of these results in calculating the tunnel interference for three-dimensional wings in rectangular tunnels with closed side walls and slotted top and bottom.

Book Evaluation of Wall Interference Effects in a Two dimensional Transonic Wind Tunnel by Subsonic Linear Theory

Download or read book Evaluation of Wall Interference Effects in a Two dimensional Transonic Wind Tunnel by Subsonic Linear Theory written by B. D. Fairlie and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of transonic wind tunnel tests on two-dimensional aerofoils are analysed with respect to the effects of wind tunnel wall interference. The tests were conducted on two geometrically similar models of each of two aerofoil sections - the NACA 0012 and the BGK-1 sections-and covered a range of Mach numbers from 0.5 to 0.82 with model chord to tunnel height ratios of 0.125 and 0.25. Results from measurements on all models in both solid- and slotted-wall test sections are corrected for wind tunnel wall interference effects by the application of classical linearized theory. For the solid wall results, these corrections appear to produce data which are very close to being free of the effects of interference. In the case of slotted walls however, linear theory is found to significantly underestimate the magnitude of blockage interference. The introduction of an empirical blockage correction, when combined with the linear theory representation of lift-interference, enables the cross-flow characteristics of the slotted walls to be determined, and leads to a successful correction scheme for the slotted wall results. Extensive comparisons with data from other sources, both experimental and theoretical, provide further verification that the corrected results are indeed closely interference free. (Author).

Book Research on Adaptive Wall Wind Tunnels

Download or read book Research on Adaptive Wall Wind Tunnels written by Robert J. Vidal and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research was to investigate the utility of the Calspan self-correcting wind tunnel for minimizing or eliminating wall interference effects in two-dimensional transonic flows when shock waves from the test model extend to the tunnel walls. This report summarizes the experimental research performed with two-dimensional airfoils in the Calspan self-correcting wind tunnel and the theoretical research accomplished in support of the experiments. The experiments were performed with airfoil models having 4% and 6% solid blockage. The initial experiments with the 6%-blockage model were devoted to determining a practical mode of operation when shock waves from the model extend to the wall. The most practical model is to use wall control to obtain the desired distribution of longitudinal velocity components for subcritical walls. The Mach number is then increased and the wall control is readjusted, sequentially, until the desired test condition is achieved. At the high Mach numbers of interest, however, the available wall control was limited locally, and tunnel system changes were required. A method is reported for analyzing self-correcting wind tunnels with porous walls.
