Download or read book Walking the Galatian Road written by Lance Thollander and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ...behind the scenes of this [Paul's] power-packed letter... -Wayne Jacobsen, Author He Loves Me and So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore ...story-like narration and floodlight insight... -John Lindner, President, World Christian Ministries; Editor, World Christian Ministries Newsletter; Author: God's Special Agents and The Mountains Shall Sing ...readable, and yet profoundly poignant... -Mark Haskins, PhD., Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia A recent survey of self-identified Christians by noted researcher George Barna yielded this astonishing result: fully 81% of those surveyed said that maturity in Christ is measured by how well one keeps the rules. But when did 'keeping the rules' become a benchmark of those who follow Christ? And how have we traded in the Life giving power of the Lord Jesus for a set of restrictions? In his new book, Walking the Galatian Road, Moving from Law to Life, Lance Thollander peels back the layers of how we got there and shows present-day believers how to leave a life characterized by legalism and guilt and return to the freedom of living by Christ. Motivated by forty years of experience including relationships with God's people in many parts of the world, Thollander gives examples to show how the incredible vitality and freedom found in Paul's letter to the Galatians has been stolen away from believers. Then he returns the readers to the simplicity of life in the Spirit. A powerful combination of history and present-day reality in an easy-to-read format, this book takes the pressure off worn-out Christians to perform. If you are looking for a book that can restore your 'first love' relationship with your Heavenly Father; that takes a fearless look at how guilt has operated to short circuit your faith; and that provides frequent invitations for the reader to stop and spend time in the presence of a liberating and loving God, then Walking the Galatian Road, Moving from Law to Life is the book for you.

Download or read book A Commentary on Galatians written by David Pawson and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2013-07-17 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The modern mood is that we do not want to argue about religion. We do not want to quarrel, but to be comfortable with each other. Galatians is not that kind of a letter. Paul argues with other Christians, not with unbelievers, and his message in the letter has in turn caused many arguments. Arguments can be good. If Luther had not been willing to get into an argument, the Reformation would not have occurred. When we come to Galatians, we are handling some of the biggest issues of all. There are fundamental issues without which you lose the Christian gospel, so, I am afraid, fighting is involved. Many of the biggest battles that Christians have to face are inside the church, not outside it. That is painful. Who likes a family that is arguing? Whenever the devil attacks the church from the outside, the church gets stronger and bigger. His attacks are much more successful when they come from the inside, and one of the quickest ways to do that is to pervert or corrupt or erode the gospel. If he can do that, he knows that he has destroyed the church from the inside. Legalism and licence are still with us. But so is true liberty. We must stay and walk with others along the narrow path, the wind of the Spirit blowing in our faces and the blessing of God’s grace upon us. We are free not to sin and free to be bold, if we will only walk in the Spirit. Galatians is one of the most powerful letters you will ever read.

Download or read book Life study of Galatians written by Witness Lee and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2023-09-27 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Galatians reveals that in God's economy, Christ replaces the law, and it is religion versus tradition. The churches in Galatia had begun well, receiving the Spirit through faith, but were now striving to be perfected by the flesh through the law (3:3). The Judaizers had bewitched the Galatians so that they considered the ordinances of the law above the Son of the living God. Paul responds by telling the distracted Galatians that Christ "gave Himself for our sins, that He might rescue us out of the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father" (1:4). In this book, the current evil age is not the secular world but the religious world in its present manifestation which distracts God's people from the living person of the Son of God. This book exposes the inability both of the law and of circumcision, showing that the law cannot impart life to regenerate us and that circumcision cannot energize us to live a new creation. But the Son of God who has been revealed in us can enliven us to make us a new creation, and the Christ who lives in us can afford us the riches of His life to live the new creation. The desire of God’s heart is not that we would keep the law but that His Son would be revealed in us, operate in us, live in us, and be formed in us that we may know Him, receive Him as our life, and become the sons of God individually and the household of the faith corporately. The book of Galatians unveils that the crucified Christ, not the law with its ordinances, is the center of God's economy.
Download or read book Annotations on Galatians and Ephesians written by Desiderius Erasmus and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 58 in the Collected Works of Erasmus series contains, for the first time, the English translation of Erasmus' Annotations on Paul's Epistles to the Galatians and Ephesians. Erasmus' Annotations began as marginal comments in his own copy of the New Testament and were subsequently published in 1516 as a supplement to the Novum Instrumentum. His annotations were intended to justify his changes based on the Greek text. In each successive edition, published between 1516 and 1535, the Annotations grew in size and scope providing Erasmus with the opportunity to defend his translations in the face of growing criticism from orthodox Catholic theologians. This volume notes the editorial changes made in the five editions and also provides the reader with information about the patristic, medieval and contemporary sources consulted by Erasmus, and about the evolving relations with contemporary critics. The Annotations played a pivotal role in the development of sixteenth-century biblical exegesis and mark a significant stage in the evolution of humanist biblical scholarship.
Download or read book The Pauline Metaphors of the Holy Spirit written by Erik Konsmo and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Pauline literature of the New Testament, the characteristics of the Spirit and Christian life are described through the use of metaphor. An interpreter of Paul must understand his metaphors in order to arrive at a complete understanding of the Pauline pneumatological perspective. Thus, The Pauline Metaphors of the Holy Spirit examines how the Pauline Spirit metaphors express the intangible Spirit's tangible presence in the life of the Christian. Rhetoricians prior to and contemporary with Paul discussed the appropriate usage of metaphor. Aristotle's thoughts provided the foundation from which these rhetoricians framed their arguments. In this context, The Pauline Metaphors surveys the use of metaphor in the Greco-Roman world during the NT period and also studies modern approaches to metaphor. The modern linguistic theories of substitution, comparison, and verbal opposition are offered as representative examples, as well as the conceptual theories of interaction, cognitive-linguistic, and the approach of Zoltán Kövecses. In examining these metaphors, it is important to understand their systematic and coherent attributes. These can be divided into structural, orientational, and ontological characteristics, which are rooted in the conceptual approach of metaphor asserted by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson. This book evaluates these characteristics against each of the Pauline Spirit-metaphors.
Download or read book Galatians written by Martinus C. de Boer and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2011-07-29 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new commentary in the New Testament Library series is not a systematic study of Pauline theology; rather, the aim of this study is to trace Paul's theology as it unfolds in his letter to the church at Galatia, and to attempt to illuminate, as far as possible, how the Galatians likely comprehended it, at the time they received it. The author asks readers to imagine themselves as silent witnesses to Paul's dictation of the letter and to observe, through a historical perspective, how the Galatian Christians might have understood Paul's words.
