Download or read book The Gift written by William Craig and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-10-09 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Readers of The Gift will find themselves entering into the world of a classic saga of good versus evil. Along the way they will pass through the lands of Elfin Haven Castle, Land of Lakes, Mound-Hill and the Vandalman Land of Nordland. They will meet the family of beautiful Queen Heather, her brave daughter Anree, the fairy Cieli and Heather's brother-in-law Kris von Krinkle. There are heroic quests, supreme destinies and ferocious battles with characters as diverse as Colestream Cardinals, Bull Reindeer warriors and stinking, demonic Slavers. Set in a time when elves and fairies, plants and animals interacted with all manner of human-kind, this story proceeds to offer an inspiring explanation for some of the most beloved stories and beliefs held by that world and our own. A frozen landscape is the setting for great battles between the spirits of Hope and Despair, and the evergreen trees, which retain their beauty even in the coldest of times, hold the promise of an inspiring Christmas story. Bill Craig has used his knowledge of military strategy and weaponry, and his love of the details of everyday life from a bygone era to craft this tale. Within the pages of The Gift hope will be renewed in the lives of its characters and perhaps in the hearts of its readers as well.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if Jesus was just an ordinary boy searching for enlightenment? In 8 AD, at the Temple of Jerusalem, the charismatic young Yeshua thrills his audience when God seems to communicate through him. While his listeners gush, not everyone is impressed. The priests scoff and say that no carpenter, however wise, can ever enter their holy ranks. Humiliated and robbed of his only dream, Yeshua resigns to a drab life as a laborer and even agrees to marry the wealthy maiden his father has chosen for him. One day, a Buddhist pilgrim tells Yeshua about a magical country called Sindh in the Far East, where anyone can become a monk, and an irresistible portal of hope opens. Torn between duty and following his bliss, Yeshua must now choose between honoring his parents or selfishly chasing his dream and bringing everlasting shame upon his family. Beautifully written, inspiring, and reminiscent of The Prophet, Siddhartha, and The Last Temptation of Christ. If you love thought-provoking fiction and are curious about the similarities between Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism, you will love this spiritually uplifting novel.

Download or read book If Each Comes Halfway written by Kathryn S. March and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For twenty-five years, Kathryn S. March has collected the life stories of the women of a Buddhist Tamang farming community in Nepal. In If Each Comes Halfway, she shows the process by which she and Tamang women reached across their cultural differences to find common ground. March allows the women's own words to paint a vivid portrait of their highland home. Because Tamang women frequently told their stories by singing poetic songs in the middle of their conversations with March, each book includes a CD of traditional songs not recorded elsewhere. Striking photographs of the Tamang people accent the book's written accounts and the CD's musical examples. In conversation and song, the Tamang open their sem—their "hearts-and-minds"—as they address a broad range of topics: life in extended households, women's property issues, wage employment and out-migration, sexism, and troubled relations with other ethnic groups. Young women reflect on uncertainties. Middle-aged women discuss obligations. Older women speak poignantly, and bluntly, about weariness and waiting to die. The goal of March's approach to ethnography is to place Tamang women in control of how their stories are told and allow an unusually intimate glimpse into their world.
