Book Wake Vortex Avoidance System

Download or read book Wake Vortex Avoidance System written by D. J. Wilson and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The requirement for wake vortex avoidance is well established. Encounter of 'heavy' aircraft wake vortices by lighter aircraft trailing by even minutes can be disastrous, especially if the encountering aircraft is flying near the ground in a near-stall condition, i.e., landing or departing. The report provides a conceptual design for a predictive-detective system to: predict the movement and decay of aircraft-generated vortices in air corridors near the air terminal using forecast meteorological conditions, periodically update the prediction by monitoring vortex movements, provide a forecast of separation requirements for optimum aircraft spacing according to prevailing vortex conditions, and provide a waveoff (or hold) capability for rare cases when vortices stray unpredictably into a hazard zone. Book Aircraft Wake Vortex Spacing System AVOSS Performance Update and Validation Study

Download or read book Aircraft Wake Vortex Spacing System AVOSS Performance Update and Validation Study written by David K. Rutishauser and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis has been performed on data generated from the two most recent field deployments of the Aircraft Wake Vortex Spacing System (AVOSS). The AVOSS provides reduced aircraft spacing criteria for wake vortex avoidance as compared to the FAA spacing applied under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). Several field deployments culminating in a system demonstration at Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport in the summer of 2000 were successful in showing a sound operational concept and the system's potential to provide a significant benefit to airport operations. For DFW, a predicted average throughput increase of 6% was observed. This increase implies 6 or 7 more aircraft on the ground in a one-hour period for DFE operations. Several studies of performacne correlations to system configuration options, and system inputs are also reported. The studies focus on the validation performance of the system.

Book Aircraft Wake Vortex Characteristics from Data Measured at John F Kennedy International Airport

Download or read book Aircraft Wake Vortex Characteristics from Data Measured at John F Kennedy International Airport written by W. R. Eberle and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data from 1320 aircraft flybys at Kennedy International Airport, Jamaica, New York, in 1975 were processed and stored in a computerized vortex data management system. The data were selectively recalled to determine vortex characteristics pertinent to the design of an effective wake vortex avoidance system. Vortex and meteorological characteristics which are relevant to the design of an effective wake vortex avoidance system are discussed from an analytical viewpoint as well as from an analysis of the data. Several formulations for feedback of vortex sensor information to provide vortex prediction are presented. Several wake vortex avoidance system designs are shown. (Author).

Book Procedural Feasibility of Reduced Spacing Under Wake Vortex Avoidance System WVAS Operation with Applications to Atlanta and O Hare

Download or read book Procedural Feasibility of Reduced Spacing Under Wake Vortex Avoidance System WVAS Operation with Applications to Atlanta and O Hare written by Ronald G. Gados and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Wake Vortex Avoidance System (WVAS) may provide increased airport capacity by allowing for reduced aircraft separation standards on final approach under certain meteorological conditions. Three sets of reduced separation standards have been hypothesized in order to describe the operational characteristics of potential WVAS systems. Analyses develop several operational schemes which allow aircraft to transition to reduced separation standards when under WVAS coverage, while maintaining larger terminal area standards prior to intercepting that coverage. Specific applications of these schemes to Atlanta Hartsfield and Chicago O'Hare International Airports are also described. Other analyses investigate procedures for and dynamics of transitioning between different sets of separation standards. Capacity benefits corresponding to the utilization of the different sets of separation standards, under various operational procedures, are estimated for Chicago and Atlanta. (Author).

This book was released on 2018-06-24 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This viewgraph presentation reviews the cooperative work that FAA and NASA are engaged in to safely increase the capacity of the National Airspace System by studying the wake vortex operations. Wake vortex avoidance is a limiting factor in defining separation standards in the airport terminal area and could become a reducing separation standards in en route airspace. Book Vortex Related Accidents Over the Ten Year Period 1964 73

Download or read book Vortex Related Accidents Over the Ten Year Period 1964 73 written by V. P. Gupta and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Out of the approximately 45,000 aviation accidents that occurred over the ten-year period 1964-73, in the conterminous United States, wake vortices have been cited as a cause or as factor in 147 accidents by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). These 'vortex-related' accidents have been studied and categorized (by flight phases of the vortex-generating aircraft and the accident aircraft, and other pertinent factors) in this report with the objective of providing historical insight to the Wake Vortex Avoidance System (WVAS) development program. A secondary objective was to explore the possibility of procedural solutions to the vortex problem in various situations.
