Book Theoretical and Experimental Longitudinal Aerodynamic Characteristics of an Aspect Ratio 0 25 Sharp edge Delta Wing at Subsonic Supersonic and Hypersonic Speeds

Download or read book Theoretical and Experimental Longitudinal Aerodynamic Characteristics of an Aspect Ratio 0 25 Sharp edge Delta Wing at Subsonic Supersonic and Hypersonic Speeds written by Charles H. Fox and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The suction analogy concept of Polhamus for predicting vortex lift in conjunction with an appropriate potential-flow solution is called the present method. This method is applied herein to an aspect ratio of 0.25 sharp-edge delta wing from a Mach number of 0.143 to 10.4 in free air and at 0.074 in ground effect, and also to an aspect ratio of 0.35 triangular cross-sectional body at Mach number of 6.9. The models had subsonic leading edges at the test Mach numbers. Vortex-flow effects could be neither confirmed nor denied to exist at high speeds because of the lack of flow visualization above a Mach number of 0.143. The data, however, could be better predicted by including a vortex-flow effect, although not always to the extent predicted from the present method because of the presence of actual and hypothesized unmodeled flow situations.

Book Design Charts of Static and Rotary Stability Derivatives for Cropped Double delta Wings in Subsonic Compressible Flow

Download or read book Design Charts of Static and Rotary Stability Derivatives for Cropped Double delta Wings in Subsonic Compressible Flow written by John E. Lamar and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An evaluation of a modified version of the Multhopp subsonic lifting-surface theory was made by comparing the theoretical values with experimental data. Near zero lift, the theory was found to predict reasonably adequately the lift-curve slope, aerodynamic center, damping in roll, damping in pitch, and lift coefficient due to pitch rate for delta and cropped delta planforms and also the lift-curve slope for double-delta planforms. Based on this theory, a series of design charts has been prepared for cropped double-delta planforms in subsonic compressible flow.

Book Effect at High Subsonic Speeds of Fuselage Forebody Strakes on the Static Stability and Vertical tail load Characteristics of a Complete Model Having a Delta Wing

Download or read book Effect at High Subsonic Speeds of Fuselage Forebody Strakes on the Static Stability and Vertical tail load Characteristics of a Complete Model Having a Delta Wing written by Edward C. Polhamus and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind-tunnel investigation at high subsonic speeds has been conducted to determine the effect of fuselage forebody strakes on the static stability and the vertical-tail-load characteristics of an airplane-type configuration having a delta wing. The tests were made at Mach numbers from 0.60 to 0.92 corresponding to Reynolds numbers from 3,000,000 to 4,200,000, based on the wing mean aerodynamic chord, and at angles of attack from approximately -2 to 24 degrees.

Book A Concept of the Vortex Lift of Sharp edge Delta Wings Based on a Leading edge suction Analogy

Download or read book A Concept of the Vortex Lift of Sharp edge Delta Wings Based on a Leading edge suction Analogy written by Edward Charles Polhamus and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concept for the calculation of the vortex lift of sharp-edge delta wings is presented and compared with experimental data. The concept is based on an analogy between the vortex lift and the leading-edge suction associated with the potential flow about the leading-edge. This concept, when combined with potential-flow theory modified to include the nonlinearities associated with the exact boundary condition and the loss of the lift component of the leading-edge suction, provides excellent prediction of the total lift for a wide range of delta wings up to angles of attack 20[degrees] or greater.
