So wurden Karten einbezogen, die manchem naturwissenschaftlich gepragten Geographen oder Kartographen in der Tradition von Aufklarung und Rationalismus fremd und paradox erscheinen mogen, wie die sogenannten "TOKarten", die in ihrer eigenen Weise die Okumene symbolisieren als den Raum, in dem sich Geschichte vollzieht. Funf Themenbereiche gliedern die Untersuchungen: 1. Signa und Imagines unterschiedlicher Weltsichten2. Neue Weltbilder mit tradierten Weltdeutungen?3. Geschichtskartographisches4. Versunkene Welten5. Welterfassung im Dienste herrschaftlicher Instrumentalisierung.
