We interview coaches from across the globe, all age groups, both genders, all competitive levels, indoor and beach. They share with us their philosophies, their thought processes, and their methodologies. We then share that with you. This is not about drills and games. There are other great places to get that type of material. Instead, Volleyball Coaching Wizards is about the thinking that surrounds the technical and tactical side of things. It's about letting you see what great volleyball coaches have in common, and where they differ despite all having great success over their career. There are two main goals of the Wizards project. One is to provide information and inspiration to volleyball coaches everywhere. The other is to help develop a real volleyball coaching literature, one which matches what can be found in other sports.

His memoir traces the history and rise of the program—from 1975, when he was hired as a part-time coach by women’s athletic director Donnis Thompson and matches were held in the “sweatbox” of Klum Gym; through the late 1970s and the 1980s, which saw the start of the Booster Club and excitement of playing in front of sell-out crowds at Honolulu’s Blaisdell Arena; into the 1990s with the team’s move to its current home at the Stan Sheriff Center, attracting the sport’s largest and most devoted following; to the landmark 2013 season when Shoji became the winningest coach in NCAA history and on his way to a fortieth year with the Rainbow Wahine program. Interviews with memorable players, family, and assistant and rival coaches, together with over 100 action photos—plus twenty more in a color insert—bring back both thrilling and poignant memories of the greatest moments of Rainbow Wahine volleyball. Book Aggressive Volleyball

Download or read book Aggressive Volleyball written by Pete Waite and published by Human Kinetics. This book was released on 2009-05-20 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With more than 11 million participants in the United States alone, the popularity of volleyball is on the rise, as is the competition within the club, high school, and collegiate games. Coaches are actively seeking methods to get more from their teams. Aggressive Volleyball holds the key to taking players and systems to higher levels by developing a combination of heightened physical and mental techniques that maximize any team’s potential. Similar to a full-court defense in basketball, all-around aggressive volleyball play demands a full team effort. Aggressive Volleyball provides the individual and team assessments necessary for determining how to incorporate and use aggressive tactics, as well as strategies for teaching competitiveness and the communication patterns needed for aggressive play. From offense and defense to out-of-system and transition play, Aggressive Volleyball presents the best way to incorporate this style and attitude into each element of the sport. Author Pete Waite has gained national recognition for his teams’ success in playing an aggressive style. His Wisconsin Badger team not only is a power in the Big Ten Conference, but it’s also a perennial challenger for the national championship. Like his style of play, Waite holds none of his instruction back in Aggressive Volleyball, providing direct guidance for coaches to raise the level of their teams’ performance.

Book Think in English

  • Author : Nilam Pathak
  • Publisher : Aegis India PL
  • Release : 2021-11-04
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 199 pages

Download or read book Think in English written by Nilam Pathak and published by Aegis India PL. This book was released on 2021-11-04 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English is an international language, which means that the communication with most people other than your fellow native speakers would be in English. The present time requires us to interact with other people either digitally or physically for business, education, social or personal purposes. This fact itself is enough to present the importance of English in our life. Governments, educational boards, universities and institutions have made sure that English remains an important part of the curriculum. Kids accept English as one of their major subjects since the beginning of their education. For years, they learn about various segments of the English language, with a constant increase in complexity. There are taught grammar, sentence formation, word power, pronunciation and writing paragraphs in English. It is logical to assume that all these students will easily be able to converse in English, but that is the pain point. Most people with a native language other than English have difficulty communicating with others in spoken English. It is ironic to know that a person with the ability to write in English and well conversant in grammar rules would struggle to speak in English fluently. But this truth is faced by a large percentage of people who aspire to speak fluent English. Where is the problem? The problem is in realizing the truth about learning languages. English is the second language for most people, except native English speakers in countries like England, the United States of America, Australia and Canada. The difficulty of learning a second language is that it is learned by keeping the native language at the foundation. This means that English will be learned with reference from their native language, like translations, similarities in syntax, grammar rules, words and sentence formations. It is also dependent on the education system which focuses on training grammar rules, translations and written English. It is assumed that spoken English will come naturally to the students, sadly that never happens. It is easy to find students in English medium schools and colleges struggling to present a topic in English. Most will avoid interactions in English, using the native language as the fundamental language of communication. Another fact is known to all, one of the top skills required to get any decent job is fluency in spoken English. The solution is the realization that spoken and written English have equal importance but must be taught differently. The methodology specified in the book is based on the philosophy that the language should be taught and learned like the native speaker, just the way we learned our native language. The idea will be explained and discussed in detail in the coming chapters.

Book excerpt: Visitor participation is a hot topic in the contemporary world of museums, art galleries, science centers, libraries and cultural organizations. How can your institution do it and do it well? The Participatory Museum is a practical guide to working with community members and visitors to make cultural institutions more dynamic, relevant, essential places. Museum consultant and exhibit designer Nina Simon weaves together innovative design techniques and case studies to make a powerful case for participatory practice. "Nina Simon's new book is essential for museum directors interested in experimenting with audience participation on the one hand and cautious about upending the tradition museum model on the other. In concentrating on the practical, this book makes implementation possible in most museums. More importantly, in describing the philosophy and rationale behind participatory activity, it makes clear that action does not always require new technology or machinery. Museums need to change, are changing, and will change further in the future. This book is a helpful and thoughtful road map for speeding such transformation." -Elaine Heumann Gurian, international museum consultant and author of Civilizing the Museum "This book is an extraordinary resource. Nina has assembled the collective wisdom of the field, and has given it her own brilliant spin. She shows us all how to walk the talk. Her book will make you want to go right out and start experimenting with participatory projects." -Kathleen McLean, participatory museum designer and author of Planning for People in Museum Exhibitions "I predict that in the future this book will be a classic work of museology." --Elizabeth Merritt, founding director of the Center for the Future of Museums
