Book Experimental and Numerical Stability Investigations on Natural Circulation Boiling Water Reactors

Download or read book Experimental and Numerical Stability Investigations on Natural Circulation Boiling Water Reactors written by Christian Pablo Marcel and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the design of novel nuclear reactors active systems are replaced by passive ones in order to reduce the risk of failure. For that reason natural circulation is being considered as the primary cooling mechanism in next generation nuclear reactor designs such as the natural circulation boiling water reactor (BWR). In such a reactor, however, the flow is not a controlled parameter but is dependent on the power. As a result, the dynamical behavior significantly differs from that in conventional forced circulation BWRs. For that reason, predicting the stability characteristics of these reactors has to be carefully studied. In this work, a number of open issues are investigated regarding the stability of natural circulation BWRs (e.g. margins to instabilities at rated conditions, interaction between the thermal-hydraulics and the neutronics, and the occurrence of flashing induced instabilities) with a strong emphasis on experimental evidence.

Book Nuclear Fission Reactors

Download or read book Nuclear Fission Reactors written by I. R. Cameron and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to provide an introduction to the basic principles of nuclear fission reactors for advanced undergraduate or graduate students of physics and engineering. The presentation is also suitable for physicists or engineers who are entering the nuclear power field without previous experience with nuclear reactors. No background knowledge is required beyond that typically acquired in the first two years of an undergraduate program in physics or engineering. Throughout, the emphasis is on explaining why particular reactor systems have evolved in the way they have, without going into great detail about reactor physics or methods of design analysis, which are already covered in a number of excellent specialist texts. The first two chapters serve as an introduction to the basic physics of the atom and the nucleus and to nuclear fission and the nuclear chain reaction. Chapter 3 deals with the fundamentals of nuclear reactor theory, covering neutron slowing down and the spatial dependence of the neutron flux in the reactor, based on the solution of the diffusion equations. The chapter includes a major section on reactor kinetics and control, including'tempera ture and void coefficients and xenon poisoning effects in power reactors. Chapter 4 describes various aspects offuel management and fuel cycles, while Chapter 5 considers materials problems for fuel and other constituents of the reactor. The processes of heat generation and removal are covered in Chapter 6.

Book An Introduction to the Neutron Kinetics of Nuclear Power Reactors

Download or read book An Introduction to the Neutron Kinetics of Nuclear Power Reactors written by J. G. Tyror and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to the Neutron Kinetics of Nuclear Power Reactors introduces the reader to the neutron kinetics of nuclear power reactors. Topics covered include the neutron physics of reactor kinetics, feedback effects, water-moderated reactors, fast reactors, and methods of plant control. The reactor transients following faults are also discussed, along with the use of computers in the study of power reactor kinetics. This book is comprised of eight chapters and begins with an overview of the reactor physics characteristics of a nuclear power reactor and their influence on system design and operation. The use of a mathematical model of the system to study reactor kinetics and control is described. The following chapters explore the neutronic aspects of reactor kinetics; the interaction between neutronic events and the behavior of other physical quantities of the reactor; the influence of feedback effects on neutron kinetics; and the neutron kinetics of water-moderated reactors and fast reactors. The different control schemes for nuclear power reactors are also considered. The final chapter looks at the use of computers to solve the equations of kinetic models for nuclear power reactors. This monograph will be a useful resource for nuclear scientists, physicists, and engineers.
