Book Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative

Download or read book Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2017-01-15 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to see deeply affects how human beings perceive and interpret the world around them. For most people, eyesight is part of everyday communication, social activities, educational and professional pursuits, the care of others, and the maintenance of personal health, independence, and mobility. Functioning eyes and vision system can reduce an adult's risk of chronic health conditions, death, falls and injuries, social isolation, depression, and other psychological problems. In children, properly maintained eye and vision health contributes to a child's social development, academic achievement, and better health across the lifespan. The public generally recognizes its reliance on sight and fears its loss, but emphasis on eye and vision health, in general, has not been integrated into daily life to the same extent as other health promotion activities, such as teeth brushing; hand washing; physical and mental exercise; and various injury prevention behaviors. A larger population health approach is needed to engage a wide range of stakeholders in coordinated efforts that can sustain the scope of behavior change. The shaping of socioeconomic environments can eventually lead to new social norms that promote eye and vision health. Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative: Vision for Tomorrow proposes a new population-centered framework to guide action and coordination among various, and sometimes competing, stakeholders in pursuit of improved eye and vision health and health equity in the United States. Building on the momentum of previous public health efforts, this report also introduces a model for action that highlights different levels of prevention activities across a range of stakeholders and provides specific examples of how population health strategies can be translated into cohesive areas for action at federal, state, and local levels.

  • Pages : 878 pages

Download or read book The Work is The Worker written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on 1901 with total page 878 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The raising and training of competent ministers of the gospel were one of the three burdens that the author, Professor Z.T. Fomum carried permanently in his heart, alongside those of prayer and soul-winning. As disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are called to face the challenge of the unfinished task of the evangelization of all nations. More than two centuries after the ascension of Jesus, there are still many people groups that are yet to be reached with the gospel of salvation. And as members of the body of Christ, we, the people of Christian Missionary Fellowship International (CMFI) are called to bring one billion people from 250 nations to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior who are discipled to obey Him in all things by the year 2065 A.D. Professor Fomum was concerned not only by the challenge of an unfinished task but also by the eternal loss of many souls for whom Christ died. To this end, competent ministers of the New Covenant are in short supply. That is the essence of The Work is The Worker–a desperate attempt to produce the kind of workers who will do the work to the satisfaction of God’s heart. This second volume comprises teachings delivered at various sessions of the CMFI Missionary Academy–The School of Knowing and Serving God (SKSG) between 1999 and 2009.

Book excerpt: Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu has long been admired throughout the world for the heroism and grace he exhibited while encouraging countless South Africans in their struggle for human rights. In God Has a Dream, his most soul-searching book, he shares the spiritual message that guided him through those troubled times. Drawing on personal and historical examples, Archbishop Tutu reaches out to readers of all religious backgrounds, showing how individual and global suffering can be transformed into joy and redemption. With his characteristic humor, Tutu offers an extremely personal and liberating message. He helps us to “see with the eyes of the heart” and to cultivate the qualities of love, forgiveness, humility, generosity, and courage that we need to change ourselves and our world. Echoing the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., he writes, “God says to you, ‘I have a dream. Please help me to realize it. It is a dream of a world whose ugliness and squalor and poverty, its war and hostility, its greed and harsh competitiveness, its alienation and disharmony are changed into their glorious counterparts. When there will be more laughter, joy, and peace, where there will be justice and goodness and compassion and love and caring and sharing. I have a dream that my children will know that they are members of one family, the human family, God’s family, my family.’” Addressing the timeless and universal concerns all people share, God Has a Dream envisions a world transformed through hope and compassion, humility and kindness, understanding and forgiveness.

This book was released on 2017-04-27 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States, some populations suffer from far greater disparities in health than others. Those disparities are caused not only by fundamental differences in health status across segments of the population, but also because of inequities in factors that impact health status, so-called determinants of health. Only part of an individual's health status depends on his or her behavior and choice; community-wide problems like poverty, unemployment, poor education, inadequate housing, poor public transportation, interpersonal violence, and decaying neighborhoods also contribute to health inequities, as well as the historic and ongoing interplay of structures, policies, and norms that shape lives. When these factors are not optimal in a community, it does not mean they are intractable: such inequities can be mitigated by social policies that can shape health in powerful ways. Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity seeks to delineate the causes of and the solutions to health inequities in the United States. This report focuses on what communities can do to promote health equity, what actions are needed by the many and varied stakeholders that are part of communities or support them, as well as the root causes and structural barriers that need to be overcome.

Book What Our Ministry Is

  • Author : Theodore Andoseh
  • Publisher : ZTF Books Online
  • Release : 2016-10-21
  • ISBN : 1370931514
  • Pages : 163 pages

Download or read book What Our Ministry Is written by Theodore Andoseh and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on 2016-10-21 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are the general purposes of God and the distinct purposes of God that He entrusts to specific individuals, groups of individuals, communities, and even to a Spiritual Movement. Both kinds of callings are documented in the Scriptures and all serve the economy of God’s purposes. To Zach Fomum and those that God called along with him, a distinct economy of the Gospel was entrusted that translated into a clear goal. The pursuance of that goal through obedience to God’s specific instructions has gradually clarified the will of God and the means of accomplishing His purposes. God’s will, God’s ways, our responsibility, who we must be, what we must do to please God, and accomplish our goal, are presented here as constituting our ministry. This is written for all who are part of our ministry, and for all who will be part of this ministry, so that we may serve in the same spirit for the same purpose and, by accomplishing the goal, bring glory to our Lord Jesus. God bless you.

Book The Complete Works of Zacharias Tanee Fomum on Prayer Volume 2

Download or read book The Complete Works of Zacharias Tanee Fomum on Prayer Volume 2 written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on with total page 1203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Complete Works of Zacharias Tanee Fomum on Prayer (Volume 2)” contains the following books: 1) The Art of Intercession 2) The Practice of Intercession 3) Practical Spiritual Warfare Through Prayer 4) Life-Changing Thoughts on Prayer (Volume 1) 5) The Overthrow of Principalities and Powers 6) The Prophecy of the Overthrow of the Satanic Prince of Douala 7) The Prophecy of the Overthrow of the Prince of Cameroon Having left the ABCs of prayer behind, this volume deals with the intricacies of intercession, spiritual warfare, and the overthrow of satanic princes ruling entire nations behind the scenes. It tackles both the art and practice of intercession. Simply put, intercession is both the art and practice by a righteous, blameless, and absolutely consecrated person, to accept, stand in the gap, and defend a person or people that God has targeted for destruction due to their brazen and sustained violation of His will. The Lord’s response to Moses’ intercession and entreaty for the children of Israel was swift and dramatic. The Bible says, “Then the Lord relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened”(Exodus 32:14). That was intercession in both its art and practice. So many advanced believers in Christ don’t even believe that satanic princes exist. They exist. They are so real, so devastating in their work and so strangulating in their grip of people and their affairs, that you can only ignore them to your own undoing. Daniel battled these satanic princes all his adult life in exile in the Babylonian, Persian, and Median realms. He did so through strategic, prevailing, and sustained prayer and fasting (Daniel 10:1-21; 11:1). He battled in prayer and fasting until the satanic princes of Persia and Greece, which were opposing God’s purposes, were overcame, overturned, and overthrown. We send this second prayer volume out with a cry to the Lord that He should use it to teach the church of the Firstborn the intricacies of intercession and spiritual warfare. In this age of atheism, agnosticism, humanism, espionage, robots, sophisticated gadgets, and the Internet, there was never a time we needed intercession and spiritual warfare like now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book “The Processes of Faith”, which deals with a very important aspect of the Christian life, is written by Professor Zacharias Tanee Fomum. In this book, the author defines faith as the proclamation of that which has already taken place in the invisible. It is the place where a truth will stick. As Active sites are to a Chemist, so is faith to a believer. Faith is created by obedience to God, prayer and fasting. For faith to be born and grow there is need for hearts that are totally consecrated to God. The author mentions the fact that he who has received an Active Word from God holds on to God no matter what he sees around – that is faith. The need to spend long hours before God, especially in reading and re reading God’s Word for faith to grow cannot be overemphasized. In fact, people ought to spend a lot of time with the Word of God so that it creates faith in them. Nevertheless, the author warns against the dangers of sin which destroys faith. He invites you to cooperate with God so that your faith in Him will be born and grow We recommend this book to you dear reader, praying that the Lord will use it to enable you to grow in your faith in Him.

Book Vision s Immanence

Download or read book Vision s Immanence written by Peter Lurie and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Faulkner occupied a unique position as a modern writer. Although famous for his modernist novels and their notorious difficulty, he also wrote extensively for the "culture industry," and the works he produced for it—including short stories, adaptations, and screenplays—bore many of the hallmarks of consumer art. His experiences as a Hollywood screenwriter influenced him in a number of ways, many of them negative, while the films turned out by the "dream factories" in which he labored sporadically inspired both his interest and his contempt. Faulkner also disparaged the popular magazines—though he frequently sold short stories to them. To what extent was Faulkner's deeply ambivalent relationship to—and involvement with—American popular culture reflected in his modernist or "art" fiction? Peter Lurie finds convincing evidence that Faulkner was keenly aware of commercial culture and adapted its formulae, strategies, and in particular, its visual techniques into the language of his novels of the 1930s. Lurie contends that Faulkner's modernism can be best understood in light of his reaction to the popular culture of his day. Using Theodor Adorno's theory about modern cultural production as a framework, Lurie's close readings of Sanctuary, Light in August, Absalom! Absalom!, and If I Forget Thee, Jerusalem uncover the cultural history that surrounded and influenced the development of Faulkner's art. Lurie is particularly interested in the influence of cinema on Faulkner's fiction and especially the visual strategies he both deployed and critiqued. These include the suggestion of cinematic viewing on the part of readers and of characters in each of the novels; the collective and individual acts of voyeurism in Sanctuary and Light in August; the exposing in Absalom! Absalom! and Light in Augustof stereotypical and cinematic patterns of thought about history and race; and the evocation of popular forms like melodrama and the movie screen in If I Forget Thee, Jerusalem. Offering innovative readings of these canonical works, this study sheds new light on Faulkner's uniquely American modernism.

Book The Way of Spiritual Warfare

Download or read book The Way of Spiritual Warfare written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a war in progress between God and His forces on one side, and the devil and his forces on the other side. Whether you like it or not, you are a part of that war. If you have received the Lord Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, God has enroled you in His army and expects you to fight for Him and with Him. If you have not yet received the Lord Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, then you are on the devil’s side, fully registered in his army, even if you have good intentions. If you do not yet belong to the Lord Jesus, then the devil wants to ensure that you never leave his army. If you already belong to the Lord Jesus, then the devil aims at : making you as ineffective as possible. using you as a spy to betray the Lord Jesus. You cannot be neutral. By your every thought, word and deed, you are helping to advance one of the two sides in the conflict. With your every second, minute, hour and day, you are either working with God for the advancement of His army and Kingdom or helping the devil, His rival, to build his army and kingdom. You do well to choose rightly. The Lord Jesus won the great victory over the devil and his host on the cross. We consider it a great privilege to proclaim that victory. We are compelled by the very nature of the truth to present Jesus as the Saviour, Teacher, Deliverer, Healer and Victor, even though we have only experienced Him as our Healer to a limited degree. The great extent to which we have seen Him work as the Deliverer gives us hope that we shall soon see Him move in a limitless way as the Healer. I have consulted the books: “Love not the World” by Watchman Nee and “War on the Saints” by Jessie Penn-Lewis as I wrote these messages. In addition, my experience of walking with Christ for 18 years has undoubtedly provided the ground work for this book. As companion volumes to this book, we have also written: “Deliverance from Demons” and “The Overthrow of Principalities.” It will be necessary to read these two books to have a complete picture of spiritual warfare as we see it.
