Book Virtual Design and Validation

Download or read book Virtual Design and Validation written by Peter Wriggers and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the experimental characterization of materials and their numerical modeling, as well as the development of new computational methods for virtual design. Its 17 contributions are divided into four main sections: experiments and virtual design, composites, fractures and fatigue, and uncertainty quantification. The first section explores new experimental methods that can be used to more accurately characterize material behavior. Furthermore, it presents a combined experimental and numerical approach to optimizing the properties of a structure, as well as new developments in the field of computational methods for virtual design. In turn, the second section is dedicated to experimental and numerical investigations of composites, with a special focus on the modeling of failure modes and the optimization of these materials. Since fatigue also includes wear due to frictional contact and aging of elastomers, new numerical schemes in the field of crack modeling and fatigue prediction are also discussed. The input parameters of a classical numerical simulation represent mean values of actual observations, though certain deviations arise: to illustrate the uncertainties of parameters used in calculations, the book’s final section presents new and efficient approaches to uncertainty quantification.

Book Design and Validation of a Virtual Human System for Interpersonal Skills Education

Download or read book Design and Validation of a Virtual Human System for Interpersonal Skills Education written by Kyle John Johnsen and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To provide insight into how changing the visual display component affected interaction with a virtual human, we designed two comparative user studies. The first study compared two immersive visual displays - a large-screen projection display and a more immersive head-mounted display. Results suggested that higher immersion may impair users' ability to accurately reflect upon their own performance. Participants in the head-mounted display condition were less accurate in evaluating their use of empathy. Following up on results from the first study, the second study compared two non immersive visual displays--a plasma television and a smaller computer monitor. Results suggested that displays that enable life-size scale virtual humans enhance user performance. Participants in the plasma television condition were more engaged, empathetic, pleasant, and natural.

Download or read book The VR Book written by Jason Jerald and published by Morgan & Claypool. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a strong foundation of human-centric virtual reality design for anyone and everyone involved in creating VR experiences. Without a clear understanding of the human side of virtual reality (VR), the experience will always fail. The VR Book bridges this gap by focusing on human-centered design. Creating compelling VR applications is an incredibly complex challenge. When done well, these experiences can be brilliant and pleasurable, but when done badly, they can result in frustration and sickness. Whereas limitations of technology can cause bad VR execution, problems are oftentimes caused by a lack of understanding human perception, interaction, design principles, and real users. This book focuses on the human elements of VR, such as how users perceive and intuitively interact with various forms of reality, causes of VR sickness, creating useful and pleasing content, and how to design and iterate upon effective VR applications. This book is not just for VR designers, it is for managers, programmers, artists, psychologists, engineers, students, educators, and user experience professionals. It is for the entire VR team, as everyone contributing should understand at least the basics of the many aspects of VR design. The industry is rapidly evolving, and The VR Book stresses the importance of building prototypes, gathering feedback, and using adjustable processes to efficiently iterate towards success. It contains extensive details on the most important aspects of VR, more than 600 applicable guidelines, and over 300 additional references.

Book Assembly Validation in Virtual Reality

Download or read book Assembly Validation in Virtual Reality written by R.D.M.D. Jayasekera and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assembly validation is a key part of product design. Current methods used, such as physical prototyping are time-consuming and do not offer immediate validation results. Assembly simulation systems have been proposed as a solution to this problem. However, widespread adoption of such systems is hindered due to their ties to proprietary CAD software or expensive and often cumbersome hardware. Recent advances in virtual reality (VR) tools and technology have opened a gateway to achieving assembly validation at a much lower cost. This thesis presents a system that allows a designer to validate their assembly design immediately after the completion of the design process. The system consists of a standalone software application, independent of CAD packages, that takes in the 3D part models of the assembly and allows the parts to be assembled. At the end of the assembly process, it gives out an assembly model and data such as the assembly sequence and time taken. The purpose of the system is to allow the designer to quickly receive feedback on the feasibility of the assembly design via manual assembly of the virtual parts. The system features intuitive bare-hand manipulation of part models through a virtual hand model that tracks the hands. Collision detection and physics modelling allow for hand-part and part-part interactions to be natural, thus validating assembly interactions. An assembly feature extraction algorithm has also been implemented to analyse the geometric features of the part models to detect any possible mating assembly features between two colliding parts. A constraint management system considers identified mating features and determines the degrees of freedom of parts once constraints are applied and removed. Force calculations are used to facilitate the removal of constraints. The software was developed using the Unity game engine as the platform; it provides rendering, physics and collision detection. Commercially available and relatively low-cost hardware peripherals are used to do hand tracking (i.e. Leap Motion) and for head mounted display (i.e. Oculus Rift). CAD neutral file formats (i.e. STEP andWavefront OBJ) are used to exchange model data.

Book Virtual Components Design and Reuse

Download or read book Virtual Components Design and Reuse written by Ralf Seepold and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design reuse is not just a topic of research but a real industrial necessity in the microelectronic domain and thus driving the competitiveness of relevant areas like for example telecommunication or automotive. Most companies have already dedicated a department or a central unit that transfer design reuse into reality. All main EDA conferences include a track to the topic, and even specific conferences have been established in this area, both in the USA and in Europe. Virtual Components Design and Reuse presents a selection of articles giving a mature and consolidated perspective to design reuse from different points of view. The authors stem from all relevant areas: research and academia, IP providers, EDA vendors and industry. Some classical topics in design reuse, like specification and generation of components, IP retrieval and cataloguing or interface customisation, are revisited and discussed in depth. Moreover, new hot topics are presented, among them IP quality, platform-based reuse, software IP, IP security, business models for design reuse, and major initiatives like the MEDEA EDA Roadmap.

Book Digital System Test and Testable Design

Download or read book Digital System Test and Testable Design written by Zainalabedin Navabi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-10 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about digital system testing and testable design. The concepts of testing and testability are treated together with digital design practices and methodologies. The book uses Verilog models and testbenches for implementing and explaining fault simulation and test generation algorithms. Extensive use of Verilog and Verilog PLI for test applications is what distinguishes this book from other test and testability books. Verilog eliminates ambiguities in test algorithms and BIST and DFT hardware architectures, and it clearly describes the architecture of the testability hardware and its test sessions. Describing many of the on-chip decompression algorithms in Verilog helps to evaluate these algorithms in terms of hardware overhead and timing, and thus feasibility of using them for System-on-Chip designs. Extensive use of testbenches and testbench development techniques is another unique feature of this book. Using PLI in developing testbenches and virtual testers provides a powerful programming tool, interfaced with hardware described in Verilog. This mixed hardware/software environment facilitates description of complex test programs and test strategies.
