Book Vic Never Give Up

Download or read book Vic Never Give Up written by Jerry Gill and published by Ann Darrow Co. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vic: Never Give Up, is the 3rd book in the series The Incredible Adventures of Vic Challenger Vic and her friend Lin Li plan a two or three-night camp out at the Grand Canyon before they head for Britain. They didn’t plan on the Dine’ who want to hang them, the madman, the mysterious cavern, and the slavers (now more commonly called ‘human traffickers’). 48 hours before their ship is to leave New York, they find themselves in San Francisco. Historical note: They could not hop a passenger plane and zip over. It was “impossible” for them to make it. However, never underestimate the ingenuity of a farm girl with 2 degrees and an indwelling cave girl persona. En-route they meet a survivor of the Titanic and eventually make it to the Scottish highlands where they expect a more restful trip than what they experienced in Arizona. They do learn to play peever and shinty and to love Squash. However, they didn’t plan on the descendants of Christie Cleek or and the herd of beasts which the Picts were petroglyping about .a millennia ago. And Vic realizes even a heroess can have tragedy in her personal life. One lesson learned: don’t wait until it is too late. Fast-paced and unpredictable, action adventure in the tradition of the adventure pulps of the early 20th Century. If you like Doc Savage, The Avenger (Dick Benson), Nancy Drew, or Tarzan or any other novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs you will love Vic Challenger. What reviewers think of the series: Vic Challenger personifies every sword or ax-wielding heroine ever drawn by any heroic fantasy artist. the female answer to Indiana Jones Great Campy Multi-Genre Book I have recommended the Vic Challenger books to my wife and to all of my children Any of these novels would make a really good movie. if you like Clive Cussler or James Rollins, these are definitely the books for you. ___ “The Incredible Adventures of Vic Challenger” series is inspired by writers like Edgar Rice Burroughs, H. Rider Haggard, Jules Verne, Arthur Conan Doyle and H. G. Wells; and by characters like Nancy Drew, Lara Croft, Alan Quatermain, Doc Savage and his cousin Patricia Savage, and Dick Benson and his assistant Nellie Gray. The writing style has been compared to Burroughs and is also reminiscent of early action driven horror novels by Graham Masterton. The series is set in the 1920’s and considerable research adds to the “realism” You will find yourself effortlessly learning bits of history, some of which may amaze you. Vic’s travels are woven into the history of the time, so you may be asking yourself “Is this real?”

Book Don t Suck Don t Die

Download or read book Don t Suck Don t Die written by Kristin Hersh and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2015-10-01 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Friend, asshole, angel, mutant,” singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt “came along and made us gross and broken people seem . . . I dunno, cooler, I guess.” A quadriplegic who could play only simple chords on his guitar, Chesnutt recorded seventeen critically acclaimed albums before his death in 2009, including About to Choke, North Star Deserter, and At the Cut. In 2006, NPR placed him in the top five of the ten best living songwriters, along with Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Paul McCartney, and Bruce Springsteen. Chesnutt’s songs have also been covered by many prominent artists, including Madonna, the Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M., Sparklehorse, Fugazi, and Neutral Milk Hotel. Kristin Hersh toured with Chesnutt for nearly a decade and they became close friends, bonding over a love of songwriting and mutual struggles with mental health. In Don’t Suck, Don’t Die, she describes many seemingly small moments they shared, their free-ranging conversations, and his tragic death. More memoir than biography, Hersh’s book plumbs the sources of Chesnutt’s pain and creativity more deeply than any conventional account of his life and recordings ever could. Chesnutt was difficult to understand and frequently difficult to be with, but, as Hersh reveals him, he was also wickedly funny and painfully perceptive. This intimate memoir is essential reading for anyone interested in the music or the artist.

Book excerpt: Victoria Park is an urban novel with a hip-hop flavor running right through the storyline. Taking center stage is an extended UK family – the Blakeways, the Johnsons and the Barnbrooks. Tug and C-Jay Blakeway are basketball fans who make regular trips to the USA to watch this sport. The Barnbrooks’ best friend Margo Turner is an opinionated and bigoted woman who gives no quarter, and as the dramatic events unfold, Margo’s adversary, Benson Harris, a teen boy of Caribbean heritage searching for his identity, gets embroiled in an ever more dangerous scenario. While crime and drama keep readers on the edge of their seats, this novel also depicts everyday family events which resonate so clearly with ordinary life. An industrial region in the UK is the primary setting, but there are scenes from overseas locations too. Spectator sport is a passion; both pro football (soccer) and college basketball are featured as the various family members travel far and wide to support their teams.
