Book Vibrations of Plates of Nonhomogeneous Viscoelastic Material

Download or read book Vibrations of Plates of Nonhomogeneous Viscoelastic Material written by John Michael McCormick and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods are considered for the vibration analysis of plates of linear viscoelastic materials when the properties vary through the thickness of the plate. In Part I the three-dimensional equations for harmonic vibrations are formulated. Examination of these differential equations indicates that they are only in rare cases tractable. In Part II the transient problem is considered. By using a warping function, equations are derived which are generalizations of the Timoshenko-Mindlin equations for homogeneous materials. It is found that the generalized equations may have a much narrower range of validity than the equations for homogeneous materials, the restrictions depending on the manner in which the properties vary. The restrictions occur also for elastic materials with variable properties. (Author).

Book An Introduction to the Mathematical Theory of Vibrations of Elastic Plates

Download or read book An Introduction to the Mathematical Theory of Vibrations of Elastic Plates written by Raymond David Mindlin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book by the late R D Mindlin is destined to become a classic introduction to the mathematical aspects of two-dimensional theories of elastic plates. It systematically derives the two-dimensional theories of anisotropic elastic plates from the variational formulation of the three-dimensional theory of elasticity by power series expansions. The uniqueness of two-dimensional problems is also examined from the variational viewpoint. The accuracy of the two-dimensional equations is judged by comparing the dispersion relations of the waves that the two-dimensional theories can describe with prediction from the three-dimensional theory. Discussing mainly high-frequency dynamic problems, it is also useful in traditional applications in structural engineering as well as provides the theoretical foundation for acoustic wave devices.

Book Vibration Response of Constrained Viscoelastically Damped Plates

Download or read book Vibration Response of Constrained Viscoelastically Damped Plates written by Gerald J. Maurer and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The frequency response analysis of several constrained viscoelastically damped plates were performed with modifications to account for the frequency dependent properties of viscoelastic materials (loss factors and shear modulus) using MSC/NASTRAN. A modal strain energy approximation method was also applied to each plate. Comparisons of the frequency response analysis to the modal strain energy method were made for each plate structure. The experiments were performed on the plates to establish the base line data for the comparisons. The modal strain energy method frequency response plots showed good agreement with the frequency response analysis method plots for all plate structures analyzed. Plate structures with fewer natural frequencies in the frequency range investigated showed better agreement between the two prediction methods than the structures with more natural frequencies. Keywords: Viscoelastic material; Modal strain energy method; composite frequency response curves, Theses.

Book Nonlinear Vibration Analysis of Viscoelastic Plates with Fractional Damping

Download or read book Nonlinear Vibration Analysis of Viscoelastic Plates with Fractional Damping written by Shamim Mashrouteh and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fractional calculus has the history as long as the classical calculus, but up to recent years, less attention has been paid to this method due to its complexity and difficulties in dealing with fractional derivatives and fractional integrals. In the present study, the nonlinear vibration analysis of a rectangular composite plate with fractional viscoelastic properties has been analytically investigated. The plate is modeled based on the von Kármán plate theory, and the Caputo's fractional derivative has been utilized to mathematically model the viscoelastic behavior of the plate with higher accuracy. Galerkin procedure has been implemented to derive the time-dependent ordinary differential equations of motion. The first two orthogonal mode shapes are considered, and variational iteration method is applied to analyze the nonlinear free vibration of the system. The method of multiple time-scales is utilized to investigate the nonlinear forced vibration of the plate when subjected to an external harmonic force. Primary resonances of the system have been studied and analytical expressions for the frequency-amplitude relationships of each mode are derived. Parametric studies have been performed to examine the effect of various parameters, specifically the fractional derivative order as a key factor, on the damped free vibration response and the forced vibration frequency response.
