Book Equilibrium Normal Shock Properties for Vibrationally Excited CO2 N2 He Gas Mixtures

Download or read book Equilibrium Normal Shock Properties for Vibrationally Excited CO2 N2 He Gas Mixtures written by Michael T. Madden and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are given for equilibrium properties behind incident and reflected normal shock waves in CO2-N2-He mixtures wherein the gas may be vibrationally excited but not chemically reacting. A rapid numerical iterative analysis is described, and the results are given in simple graphical form for convenient use in shock tube and shock tunnel experiments. The results are anticipated to be of particular use in determining reservoir conditions for shock tunnel experiments dealing with vibrational population inversions in rapidly expanding mixtures. Book Vibrational Population Inversions Within Normal Shock Waves in CO2 N2 He Mixtures

Download or read book Vibrational Population Inversions Within Normal Shock Waves in CO2 N2 He Mixtures written by John David Anderson (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical solutions are given for vibrational population inversions created in CO2-N2-He mixtures due to shock wave heating of a cold gas. The results indicate that population inversions between the (040) and (001) energy levels of CO2 and, to a lesser degree, between the (200) and (001) levels, can be created in the vibrational nonequilibrium flow behind a normal shock front. The properties of these inversions as a possible laser medium are assessed; the results indicate that the laser properties of this shock-induced nonequilibrium flow are not as promising as those of lasers operating on the principle of rapid expansions. Book Numerical Solutions of Several Reflected Shock wave Flow Fields with Nonequilibrium Chemical Reactions

Download or read book Numerical Solutions of Several Reflected Shock wave Flow Fields with Nonequilibrium Chemical Reactions written by Ronald K. Hanson and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method of characteristics for a chemically reacting gas is used in the construction of the time-dependent, one-dimensional flow field resulting from the normal reflection of an incident shock wave at the end wall of a shock tube. Nonequilibrium chemical reactions are allowed behind both the incident and reflected shock waves. All the solutions are evaluated for oxygen, but the results are generally representative of any inviscid, nonconducting, and nonradiating diatomic gas. The solutions clearly show that: (1) both the incident- and reflected-shock chemical relaxation times are important in governing the time to attain steady state thermodynamic properties; and (2) adjacent to the end wall, an excess-entropy layer develops wherein the steady state values of all the thermodynamic variables except pressure differ significantly from their corresponding Rankine-Hugoniot equilibrium values.

Book Vibration and Dissociation Coupling Behind Strong Shock Waves

Download or read book Vibration and Dissociation Coupling Behind Strong Shock Waves written by Charles E. Treanor and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The coupling between vibrational relaxation and dissociation is discussed. A model for computations of dissociation behind strong shock waves is presented. It is shown that the loss of vibrational energy during dissociation introduces an inverse temperature dependence into the observed dissociation rate of O2 between 4000 and 8000K. Changing the model so that dissociation from higher vibrational levels is enhanced results in a dissociation-incubation time immediately behind the shock. The vibrational-energy distribution behind the shock is calculated, and shown to depart considerably from a Boltzmann distribution. The molecular model, which uses a Boltzmann distribution, is shown to give the same result as the non-Boltzmann model for both the nonequilibrium dissociation rate and the dissociation incubation time. Book Tables of Normal Shock Wave Properties for Oxygen and Nitrogen in Dissociation Equilibrium

Download or read book Tables of Normal Shock Wave Properties for Oxygen and Nitrogen in Dissociation Equilibrium written by C. K. Law and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An accurate table for the gasdynamic properties behind incident and reflected normal shock waves was constructed for gaseous oxygen and nitrogen in dissociation equilibrium. The values of the temperature and pressure behind the respective shocks were computed to within 0.1% of the exact root. Second order correction factors for the molecular rotation function were also taken into account. The initial temperature is taken to be 298.13K for all cases, the initial pressures cover the range from 0.01 to 2000 mmHg and the incident shock Mach number is varied in increments of 0.1 from 6 to 18. The computer program was written in such a way that only slight modifications are needed for its use with other gases and other states of equilibrium. (Author).
