Book Vibration of Cylindrical Shells with and Without Ring Stiffening

Download or read book Vibration of Cylindrical Shells with and Without Ring Stiffening written by Eugene C Eichelberger (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dynamical response of two cylindrical shells, one with and one without ring-stiffening, was investigated. The driving-point admittance was measured and compared with predictions using the Mean-Value Admittance Method. This method predicts the geometric mean of the response of a vibrator with respect to frequency and is useful in understanding the behavior of many complex structures. The basic computations involve the mode functions, mode masses, and the mode density. The measurements were in good agreement with the theory, and demonstrate that the Mean-Value Admittance Method is a practical means of predicting the vibrational response of shell structures to point excitation. Book Dynamics of Submerged Cylindrical Shells with Eccentric Stiffening Revised

Download or read book Dynamics of Submerged Cylindrical Shells with Eccentric Stiffening Revised written by Kerry Kier-Ten Chu and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical analysis is presented for treating the free vibrations of submerged, ring stiffened cylindrical shells with simply supported ends. The effects of the eccentric stiffeners are averaged over the thin-walled isotropic cylindrical shell. The energy method is utilized and the frequency equation is derived by Hamilton's Principle. All three degrees of freedom are considered. Numerical results are presented for frequencies for several cases of interest. (Author).

Book On the Free Vibration Behavior of Cylindrical Shell Structures

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shell structures, especially cylindrical shells, are widely used in aerospace and naval architectural industries. Submarine hulls and aircraft bodies can be idealized as cylindrical shell structures. The study of vibrations of cylindrical shells is an important aspect in the successful applications of the cylindrical shells. The free vibration characteristics of a submarine hull have an important influence on the noise signature of the submarine. That makes the free vibration problem of the submarine hull a particular interest for the submarine community. The natural frequencies of cylindrical shells are clustered in a very narrow band and they are thus more prone to becoming involved in resonant vibrations. The determination and control of these frequencies is significant to manage the acoustic signature of the submarine. This thesis focuses on the free vibration characteristics of stiffened and unstiffened cylindrical shells. The analysis is carried out mainly in two parts. First, the unstiffened cylindrical shell is modeled and the free vibration problem is analyzed as the shell thickness decreases. Then the cylindrical shell is stiffened with ring stiffeners and the free vibration problem of the stiffened cylindrical shell is studied. The vibration modes of the unstiffened cylindrical shell are studied for four shells with different thicknesses. Initial tensile and compressive membrane stresses are applied separately to the shells to study the effect of the initial stresses on the free vibration modes. The vibration modes of the stiffened cylindrical shell are studied in two steps. First, the influence of the positions of two ring stiffeners on the fundamental frequencies is studied; second, the free vibration modes of the stiffened cylindrical shell are studied. Two cylindrical shells with different thicknesses are used and they are stiffened with different numbers of ring stiffeners, which are uniformly distributed along the longitudinal axis of the shell. The results are compared with available analytical results and finite element solutions of similar problems from the literature.

Book The In vacuo Vibrations of a Simply Supported Ring stiffened Mass loaded Cylindrical Shell

Download or read book The In vacuo Vibrations of a Simply Supported Ring stiffened Mass loaded Cylindrical Shell written by Constantine D. Michalopoulos and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present investigation is an analytical study of the in-vacuo free vibrations of a simply supported, mass-loaded thin cylindrical shell which is reinforced by equally spaced ring stiffeners. Four masses are attached to each stiffening ring in a plane-symmetric fashion. The rotatory inertia of the mass loads is taken into account, but similar effects for the shell and ring stiffeners are neglected. Lagrange's equations are used to derive the dynamic equations of the structure. Results are given for various combinations of length, radius and thickness of the shell, number of stiffening rings, and value and position of mass loads. When the value of the masses is allowed to become zero, the results for the ring-stiffened shell are in close agreement with those of previous investigators. (Author).

Book Vibrations of Axially Loaded Stiffened Cylindrical Shells Part I Theoretical Analysis

Download or read book Vibrations of Axially Loaded Stiffened Cylindrical Shells Part I Theoretical Analysis written by Josef Singer and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of analysis and a computer program were developed for determination of the frequencies and mode shapes of the free vibrations of stiffened cylindrical shells. The shells are stiffened by closely spaced stringers and rings, have different boundary conditions, and are subjected to either a static axial load or a hydrostatic pressure. The stiffeners are considered 'smeared' over the shell. The system of equations which was obtained is solved by a method known as the 'exact method'. The theoretical investigation includes a study of the variation in frequencies and mode shapes with increase in the static load until buckling. The results of the present analysis are compared to those of other methods which appear in the literature, and good agreement is obtained. (Author).
