Book excerpt: Nine Ten Minute Plays for Two Actors FEATURING: STORM ON STORM - Norton Templer has been struck by lightning twice, gaining fame as New Jersey’s “weather-provoking” Lawn Furniture Salesman. But the real storm is at home, where his wife grows cold and his own daughter is afraid to have him at her wedding. DUMP - How can Pauley just want to sleep when her sickly father is discovered missing? Racing the clock, her best friend, Corrina, has to find out before time runs out. GAME ON - At the end of a first date with no chance of a second, Donnie demands to know why he and Ted didn’t spark. But the answer – that Donnie isn’t “straight-acting” – leads him to question: why date a guy who acts like something he’s not? GAWK - After her grandson’s death, Winnapeg is visited by the last person to see him alive: the boy’s white fourth grade teacher, Joyce. But if all Joyce wants is to hand over a blood-stained final letter, why isn’t she leaving – and will Winnapeg even let her? THE SWEEP - Frank summons his friend Johnson to a hospital waiting room with an unusual post-mortem request: to be in charge of “the sweep” – removing, after his death, the signs of the side of life he keeps hidden. But what is Frank hiding from his best friend? CAUGHT WITHOUT CANDY - The screams coming from Amanda and Donna’s house on Halloween have nothing to do with Trick or Treaters, and everything to do with a couple’s journey into truths about life that will change them forever. MARC-US - On the viewing platform of the World Trade Center Disaster, a gay man who lost his partner on 9/11 receives unexpected support from a female stranger: a chatty tourist from way, way out of town. VERTICALS AND HORIZONTALS - There are two kinds of people in this world, as Sonya and Bradley discover when a wild Southern customer rolls out of a Persian rug in the store where they work. To make the sale, they’ll have to figure out which kind they personally are, even if it means rising down to his level.

Book Studies on the Derveni Papyrus Volume II

Download or read book Studies on the Derveni Papyrus Volume II written by Glenn W. Most and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-09-30 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies on the Derveni Papyrus, volume II brings together two new editions of the first fragmentarily extant columns of the Derveni Papyrus and seven scholarly articles devoted to their interpretation. The Derveni Papyrus is by far the most important textual discovery of the 20th centuryregarding early Greek philosophy, religion, exegetical theory and practice, linguistic ideas, and a host of other areas and issues. But the editorial and interpretative history of this extraordinary document has been very checkered. While the interpretation of the better preserved later columns isstill highly controversial in many regards, at least the text of those columns has by and large found a scholarly consensus; but the editorial and interpretative situation with the worse preserved first columns is quite different. This volume offers not one but two editions of the first columns, byRichard Janko and by Valeria Piano, given that it is not currently possible to agree upon a single edition; and it explains clearly and in detail the papyrological problems and doubts that lead to these two editions, making it possible for readers (even non-papyrologists) to form their own informedjudgment about the most likely readings to be adopted. Furthermore, it contains a number of articles by leading scholars on the Derveni Papyrus, above all offering original solutions to the question of the relation between the earlier and the later columns, but also providing analysis andinterpretation of other, related problems.

Published here are inscriptions on monuments commemorating events or victories, on statues or other representations erected to honor individuals and deities, and on votive offerings to divinities. Most are dated to between the 4th century B.C. and the 2nd century A.D., but a few survive from the Archaic and Late Roman periods. A final section contains monuments that are potentially, but not certainly, dedicatory in character, and a small number of grave markers omitted from Agora XVII. Each of the 773 catalogue entries includes a description of the object inscribed, bibliography, a transcription of the Greek text, and commentary. There are photographs of each piece of which no adequate illustration has yet been published, including newly joined fragments. The volume concludes with concordances and six indexes.

Book The CME Group Risk Management Handbook

Download or read book The CME Group Risk Management Handbook written by CME Group and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-05-25 with total page 1253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Praise for The CME Group Risk Management Handbook "Wow! The CME Group Risk Management Handbook is a 'ten strike' and long overdue. A must-read and reference for the risk management industry!" —Jack Sandner, retired chairman of CME Group, member of the Executive Committee "This is a powerful book for its integration of futures and options markets with an understanding of the whole economy. It is an eye-opener to see how central these markets are to our economic lives." —Robert J. Shiller, Okun Professor of Economics, Yale University; Chief Economist, MacroMarkets LLC "Risk management is essential to successful investing, and The CME Group Risk Management Handbook provides the essentials for understanding risk management. In the wake of the financial turmoil of the last few years, managing risk should be part of any investment program. Among the key elements of risk management are stock index, bond, currency, and commodity futures as well as a growing number of futures, options, swaps, and other financial instruments built on indices tracking housing prices, weather conditions, and the economy. The CME Group Risk Management Handbook offers a comprehensive guide for using all of these to better manage financial risks." —David M. Blitzer, PhD, Managing Director and Chairman of the Index Committee, S&P Indices "Dare we ignore the advice of a financial institution, the largest of its kind in the world, that navigated the recent financial crisis without the aid of a single TARP dollar or access to the Fed's cheap loans? For CME Group, risk management has meant risk minimization as it enters its 151st year of life and its 85th year of central counterparty clearing without a single trading debt unpaid. It has been, and continues to be, a leader by example." —Philip McBride Johnson, former CFTC chairman "For the first time, a comprehensive handbook outlining the futures market in today's world is available. The CME Group Risk Management Handbook covers futures basics for the novice trader, while the veterans will benefit from an in-depth look at options and hedging. This handbook is a necessity for any professional, investor, or other market participant seeking to manage risk in the perpetually changing futures market." —H. Jack Bouroudjian, CEO, Index Futures Group
