Book Vehicle Traction Mechanics

Download or read book Vehicle Traction Mechanics written by R.N. Yong and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental problem in the study of vehicle mobility is the development of traction between the vehicle and the supporting terrain. The mechanics of energy transfer will essentially control the final performance of the surficial machine. Determining and predicting the capability of a particular piece of machinery to traverse successfully a specific piece of terrain is very complex, particularly as the characteristics and properties of different types of terrain cover vary considerably, as do the many types of vehicle and their running gear. The material that forms the basis of this book has been gathered over many years of study both in the laboratory and in the field. It studies vehicle traction mechanics from the viewpoint of the interaction between the vehicle and the ground surface. The types of machines covered include earth-moving, forestry, agricultural, and construction machines. In addition, the mechanisms involved in the development of traction and the working of the terrain through cultivation, construction and surface disturbances are examined. The book also addresses the problems of off-road mobility and terrain trafficability, especially from the terrain-support and terrain interaction points of view. It is the authors' aim that the book will provide the reader with the ability to both analyze and predict the traction capability of his proposed machinery, and also to anticipate the kinds of reactions that will occur in the ground and at the ground surface.

Download or read book Advanced Tire Mechanics written by Yukio Nakajima and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-03 with total page 1265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the mechanics of tire performance, offering detailed explanations of deriving basic equations for the fundamental properties of tires, and discussing ways to improve tire performance using these equations. It also compares the theory with practical measurements. The book commences with composite mechanics, which is the fundamental theory for belt and carcass tires, and covers classical, modified and discrete lamination theory. It then addresses the theory of tire shape and spring properties and the mechanics of tread pattern contact properties, as was well as the performance of various tires. This comprehensive book is a valuable resource for engineers involved in tire design and offers unique insights and examples of improvement of tire performances.

Book Study on Controllability and Stability of High Speed Tracked Vehicles

Download or read book Study on Controllability and Stability of High Speed Tracked Vehicles written by F. Eiyo and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous studies on mobility of tracked vehicles such as bulldozer and crawler tracters have been performed. The stationary turning motions of these vehicles have been reported recently. Most of these studies have been concerned with trafficability and traction mechanics in vehicle terrain interaction because these vehicles are used mainly in off-road motion at low speeds. However, there has not been any reported studies dealing with the controllability and stability of vehicles at high speeds.

Book Road and Off Road Vehicle Dynamics

Download or read book Road and Off Road Vehicle Dynamics written by Moustafa El-Gindy and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-10 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces and provides a detailed understanding of on- and off-road vehicle dynamics. It discusses classical on-road tyre mechanics, including finite element tyre modelling and validation, using a combination of theoretical and experimental data sets. Chapters explore new computational techniques that describe terrain models and combined to develop better off-road vehicle models, and focus is placed on terrain characterization and modelling, using two popular modelling techniques, as well as performance characteristics of off-road vehicles - including rolling and driven combinations, traction, and steering. The effect of multi-pass and soil compaction on tyre performance is described as well. The book presents a unique neuro-tyre model for both on-road and off-road situations, capable of computing the steering, braking characteristics, and soil compaction. Road vehicle characteristics are described, including the stability and control, roll centre and roll axis, and rollover mechanics. The road vehicle braking performance is also described, including the brake components, choice of brake, and the transient load transfer. Finally, the dynamics and control of multi-wheel combat vehicles are presented and described extensively. The book is dedicated to undergraduate and graduate engineering students, in addition to researchers, and the automotive industry. As well as provide the readers with a better understanding of vehicle dynamics and soil mechanics. The book is also beneficial for automotive industries looking for a quick and reliable model to be implemented in their main software.

Book System Dynamics and Long Term Behaviour of Railway Vehicles Track and Subgrade

Download or read book System Dynamics and Long Term Behaviour of Railway Vehicles Track and Subgrade written by Karl Popp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-06 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last decades completely new technologies for high speed railway vehicles have been developed. The primary goals have been to increase traction, axle load, and travelling speed, and to guarantee the safety of the passengers. However, new developments have revealed new limitations: settlement and destruction of the ballast and the subgrade lead to deterioration of the track; irregular wear of the wheels causes an increase in overall load and deterioration in passenger comfort; and damage of the running surfaces of the rail and the wheel is becoming more frequent. These problems have been investigated in the Priority Programme SPP 1015 supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), with the goal of better understanding of the dynamic interaction of vehicle and track, and the long-term behavior of the components of the system. The book contains the scientific results of the programme as presented at the concluding colloquium held at University of Stuttgart, Germany, 2002.
