Book Optical Control of Molecular Dynamics

Download or read book Optical Control of Molecular Dynamics written by Stuart A. Rice and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 2000-03-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in laser technology over the last 10-15 years have stimulated study of the active control of quantum molecular dynamics. Lasers may used to generate external fields of varying intensity, phases, and spectral content, which then are used to alter the molecular dynamics of a system so as to generate more of a particular product. Control of reactions at this microscopic level is one of the hot areas of research in chemical physics. This book describes the current status of the theory of optical control of molecular dynamics

Book Femtochemistry And Femtobiology Ultrafast Dynamics In Molecular Science

Download or read book Femtochemistry And Femtobiology Ultrafast Dynamics In Molecular Science written by Abderrazzak Douhal and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-05-30 with total page 854 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains important contributions from top international scientists on the-state-of-the-art of femtochemistry and femtobiology at the beginning of the new millennium. It consists of reviews and papers on ultrafast dynamics in molecular science. The coverage of topics highlights several important features of molecular science from the viewpoint of structure (space domain) and dynamics (time domain). First of all, the book presents the latest developments, such as experimental techniques for understanding ultrafast processes in gas, condensed and complex systems, including biological molecules, surfaces and nanostructures. At the same time it stresses the different ways to control the rates and pathways of reactive events in chemistry and biology. Particular emphasis is given to biological processes as an area where femtodynamics is becoming very useful for resolving the structural dynamics from techniques such as electron diffraction, and X-ray and IR spectroscopy. Finally, the latest developments in quantum control (in both theory and experiment) and the experimental pulse-shaping techniques are described.

Book Ultrafast Dynamics Driven by Intense Light Pulses

Download or read book Ultrafast Dynamics Driven by Intense Light Pulses written by Markus Kitzler and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book documents the recent vivid developments in the research field of ultrashort intense light pulses for probing and controlling ultrafast dynamics. The recent fascinating results in studying and controlling ultrafast dynamics in ever more complicated systems such as (bio-)molecules and structures of meso- to macroscopic sizes on ever shorter time-scales are presented. The book is written by some of the most eminent experimental and theoretical experts in the field. It covers the new groundbreaking research directions that were opened by the availability of new light sources such as fully controlled intense laser fields with durations down to a single oscillation cycle, short-wavelength laser-driven attosecond pulses and intense X-ray pulses from the upcoming free electron lasers. These light sources allowed the investigation of dynamics in atoms, molecules, clusters, on surfaces and very recently also in nanostructures and solids in new regimes of parameters which, in turn, led to the identification of completely new dynamics and methods for controlling it. Example topics covered by this book include the study of ultrafast processes in large molecules using attosecond pulses, control of ultrafast electron dynamics in solids with shaped femtosecond laser pulses, light-driven ultrafast plasmonic processes on surfaces and in nanostructures as well as research on atomic and molecular systems under intense X-ray radiation. This book is equally helpful for people who would like to step into this field (e.g. young researchers), for whom it provides a broad introduction, as well as for already experienced researchers who may enjoy the exhaustive discussion that covers the research on essentially all currently studied objects and with all available ultrafast pulse sources.

  • Author : Joshua Jortner
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9401126429

Download or read book Mode Selective Chemistry written by Joshua Jortner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Twenty Fourth Jerusalem Symposium reflected the high standards of these distinguished scientific meetings, which convene once a year at the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Jerusalem to discuss a specific topic in the broad area of quantum chemistry and biochemistry. The topic at this year's Jerusalem Symposium was mode selective chemistry, which constitutes a truly interdisciplinary subject of central interest in the areas of chemical physics, photochemistry and photobiology. The main theme of the Symposium was built around the exploration of the possibility and conditions for non-statistical reaction dynamics in molecules, van der Waals molecules, clusters and condensed phases. The main issues addressed photoselective and coherent excitation modes, bottlenecks for intramolecular vibrational energy redistribution, the consequences of the internal structure of many-atom systems and of rotational vibrational level structure for intramolecular dynamics, bond selective photodissociation, ultrafast chemical clocks for energy disposal, coherent control of photochemical reactions and nonstatistical unimolecular reaction dynamics. The interdisciplinary nature of this research area was deliberated by intensive and extensive interactions between theory and experiment. This volume provides a record of the invited lectures at the Symposium.

Book Chiral Matter Proceedings Of The Nobel Symposium 167

Download or read book Chiral Matter Proceedings Of The Nobel Symposium 167 written by Egor Babaev and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-02-13 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A geometric figure has chirality, or handedness, if its mirror image cannot be brought to coincide with itself. The concept of chirality was instrumental in establishing the tetrahedral valences of the carbon atom, and has continued to play a key role in chemistry and molecular biology ever since. The fact that living organisms use only one of two mirror isomers of such molecules as amino acids and sugars, that is, the question of the origin of homochirality of the molecular basis of life, remains an unsolved problem of the same dignity as the origin of dark matter and dark energy. The increasing importance of chirality and topology in condensed matter physics and chemistry, and the production of new states of matter in heavy-ion collisions, have brought the concept of chirality into physics and cosmology in a tangible way while at the same time expanded the physics/chemistry interface. The book is the first to address all aspects of chirality in a single volume.

Download or read book Ultrafast Phenomena XIV written by Takayoshi Kobayashi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-28 with total page 914 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of papers presented at the Fourteenth International Conference on Ultrafast Phenomena held in Niigata, Japan from July 25-30, 2004. The Ultrafast Phenomena Conferences are held every two years and provide a forum for discussion of the latest results in ultrafast optics and their applications in science and engineering. A total of more than 300 papers were presented, reporting the forefront of research in ultrashort pulse generation and characterization, including new techniques for shortening the duration of laser pulses, for stabilizing their absolute phase, and for improving tenability over broad wavelength ranges, output powers and peak intensities. Ultrafast spectroscopies, particularly time-resolved X-ray and electron diffraction and two-dimensional spectroscopy, continue to give new insights into fundamental processes in physics, chemistry and biology. Control and optimization of the outcome of ultrafast processes represent another important field of research. There are an increasing number of applications of ultrafast methodology in material diagnostics and processing, microscopy and medical imaging. The enthusiasm of the participants, the involvement of many students, the high quality of the papers in both oral and poster sessions made the conference very successful. Many people and organizations made invaluable contributions. The members of the international program committee reviewed the submissions and organized the program. The staff of the Optical Society of America deserves special thanks for making the meeting arrangements and running the meeting smoothly.
