Book Elementary Particle Physics Present And Future Proceedings Of The International Workshop

Download or read book Elementary Particle Physics Present And Future Proceedings Of The International Workshop written by Jose W F Valle and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-04-25 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This workshop held in Valencia, following the earlier meetings organized at UIMP in 1991 and 1993 was open to all who wished to attend and addressed the basic issues in elementary particle physics research for the coming decade, with emphasis on the new physics topics pertaining to the electroweak sector, supersymmetry and neutrino physics, as well as the related experimentation at the new CERN accelerators LEP200 and LHC. Although it is expected that most attendees are working in the field, some time are devoted to reviews of basic results. The topics covered are the standard model, top and higgs physics, neutrino physics, astroparticle physics, physics beyond the standard model, grand unification and supersymmetry, physics at LEP200 and LHC, future perspectives.

Book Fundamental Particles and Interactions

Download or read book Fundamental Particles and Interactions written by R.S. Panvini and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 1998-03-13 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scope of this workshop was extended from the last one two years ago in two areas to reflect the current interest in interconnect metallization. First, the topics in metallization were extended to include problems related to atomic transport for reflow and filling of vias and contact holes, silicadation, and barrier metals. These topics are of particular interest for the development of the current quarter- micron metallization. The second was to include metallization for liquid crystal display of devices and surface acoustic devices in addition to semiconductor devices. Problems related to mass transport in these devices have become increasingly important, in some cases more so than those in semiconductor devices. Several papers were presented to discuss the similarities and differences of these phenomena and their mechanisms, focusing on the questions concerning why and how atoms migrate and what are the effects of the migration.

Book Lectures on LHC Physics

Download or read book Lectures on LHC Physics written by Tilman Plehn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-05 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the discovery of the Higgs boson, the LHC experiments have closed the most important gap in our understanding of fundamental interactions, confirming that such interactions between elementary particles can be described by quantum field theory, more specifically by a renormalizable gauge theory. This theory is a priori valid for arbitrarily high energy scales and does not require an ultraviolet completion. Yet, when trying to apply the concrete knowledge of quantum field theory to actual LHC physics - in particular to the Higgs sector and certain regimes of QCD - one inevitably encounters an intricate maze of phenomenological know-how, common lore and other, often historically developed intuitions about what works and what doesn’t. These lectures cover three aspects to help understand LHC results in the Higgs sector and in searches for physics beyond the Standard Model: they discuss the many facets of Higgs physics, which is at the core of this significantly expanded second edition; then QCD, to the degree relevant for LHC measurements; as well as further standard phenomenological background knowledge. They are intended to serve as a brief but sufficiently detailed primer on LHC physics to enable graduate students and all newcomers to the field to find their way through the more advanced literature, and to help those starting to work in this very timely and exciting field of research. Advanced readers will benefit from this course-based text for their own lectures and seminars. .
