Download or read book Area dosage Relationships and Time of Tracer Arrival in the Green Glow Program written by William P. Elliott and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An empirical relationship between the area in which a given dosage is equalled or exceeded and the value of the dosage itself are developed using Green Glow data. It is found that the logarithm of the area is nearly a linear function of the logarithm of the dosage divided by the source strength and multiplied by a representative wind speed. These results differ only slightly from similar results obtained from Prairie Grass data. Observations of the time of first arrival of the tracer near ground level at distances of 8 and 16 miles from the source indicate that the tracer material which first arrives has travelled with a wind speed greater than the surface wind (about 15 ft). It would be necessary to have wind speed measurements between 50 and 100 ft above ground in order to estimate the time of first arrival at these distances even though the source is no higher than 15 ft.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perennially-frozen Angiussaq Lake, Greenland was examined in 1957 to determine the strength of its midsummer ice cover and the causes of its perennially-frozen conditions. The lake, largest within a 100-mi radius of Thule Air Base, is formed by ice-cap damming of a valley 200 m deep, and has an elevation of 590 m. Water temperatures ranged from 0.1 to 0.7 C and showed that summertime mixing is sufficient to maintain nearly isothermal conditions. Fish, phytoplankton, AND CHIRONOMID LIFE WERE FOUND IN THE LAKE WATER. At the end of the 1957 summer, more than 90% of the lake surface was covered by ice averaging 1.5 m in thickness. Variations in melting rate have caused a gently rolling surface that might be smoothed by flooding or scraping. In-place cantilever beam tests showed that the upper half meter of ice had almost no strength but that the lower portion maintained sufficient strength to support heavy loads throughout the summer. A tongue of glacier ice floating in the lake has a thickness of about 100 m and a length of about 3 km. Five smaller ice islands have thicknesses of more than 5 m and are believed to form where snow accumulation exceeds ablation. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains tutorial and review articles as well as specific research letters that cover a wide range of topics: (1) dynamics of atmospheric variability from both basic theory and data analysis, (2) physical and mathematical problems in climate modeling and numerical weather prediction, (3) theories of atmospheric radiative transfer and their applications in satellite remote sensing, and (4) mathematical and statistical methods. The book can be used by undergraduates or graduate students majoring in atmospheric sciences, as an introduction to various research areas; and by researchers and educators, as a general review or quick reference in their fields of interest.
